Ottawa Day 1…

well, it has been a busy day…

got to the airport, went through security and grabbed seats to wait for our flight…

IMG_7457.JPGhad lots of things to keep us busy on the plane…

IMG_7458.JPGfound our way to the kids’ apartment and went for a swim in the pool after we picked up some lunch…

IMG_7460.JPGwhen he arrived home Ron showed us all the gaming equipment so we would never run out of things to do…

IMG_7461.JPGtook a long walk to The Works where we had a delicious supper… there are many kinds of burgers… happily we caught a bendy bus back to the apartment where we visited, planned some of the week’s activities, and went down to the pool again…

now it is off to bed… everyone is tired…

tonight the sky turned dark and the wind blew like crazy…

eventually it blew the storm right past us…

IMG_7429.JPGthe sun shone through the clouds and the light in the front and back was beautiful…

IMG_7430.JPGthe kids came over, mowed and whipper snipped the front yard, which looked as though the house had been abandoned, lol, and then we had supper before they headed home…

my nine year old grandson stayed behind… we had a fun time in the hot tub, found markers and colouring books, and cards for his backpack and he has headed to bed…

my suitcase and carry on are packed and we are ready to go…

IMG_7431.JPGtaxi is picking us up at 6:15 and we will be on our way to Ottawa to visit Cyndi and Ron…

lovely first day of vacation…

up early and walked over to “the A” to have breakfast with my daughter…

IMG_7418.JPGthen we shopped at a few places… met the rest of the family and my nephew for dimsum and headed home…

had a nap, watched tv and ate leftover roti for my dinner…

got out my suitcase and started packing…

this morning it was misting outside but I had to take pictures of the morning glories…

IMG_7390.JPGwhenever I look at them I remember how George would bring me pictures and tell me how many were blooming as I spent weeks in the hospital a few years back…

the pond is nearly overflowing…

IMG_7391.JPGwe’ve had two huge rains this week and rather than being low on water, it is bursting its seams…

before I left home I had to move and dump the barrel liner… It was full again this morning… certainly a good workout to pull it across the driveway and then tip it over…

after I was dressed and ready to leave this morning, the power went out…

called Hydro with my cell because the house phone was dead… then I spent some time trying to decide whether to stay home or go to the office…

decided to head to work… on the way out I took a few pictures of the first morning glories… they seeded themselves from last year…

got into the garage and went to push the button to open the garage door… duh… maybe I wasn’t going to work, lol…

called my daughter and while she was on the phone I pulled the cord that released the motor from the door…

opened it and drove the car out… closed it but it wouldn’t lock… didn’t know what to do and it was late, so I left it unlocked…

colleagues suggested it would reset when the power came on…

got a call about noon from Hydro advising that it was back…

when I got home I manually opened it and put the car in… tried the button and the motor came on but the door didn’t do anything… tried opening it higher but that still didn’t work…

went across the lane and asked my neighbour for help… he came over and showed me how to hook the motor back to the door…

if I have to do this again, will likely need to put the ladder in the empty garage to get up high enough, lol…

now, if only I can remember what to do…

a few days ago as I was driving on my way to work, I saw a plastic cup, a water bottle and a soft drink can within about four blocks in my neighbourhood… downtown it is much worse, even though there are garbage cans in many places…

makes me crazy and also worried that people are just not caring about their surroundings…

I still put wrappers or other dry garbage in my pockets to take home when I am out and there isn’t a garbage can or recycling bin close by…

although George smoked he rarely tossed a butt out the window of the car or left it on the street…

the girls learned very early that littering was just not done…

crazy…

tonight I took a picture of another scary thing… a spider den in the basement… it has been there for a while now and every time I go down to the basement I have to check to make sure the spider, which is very big, is not out of his nest…

I am so blessed… I have an abundance of everything I need…

tonight I was in the garden pulling rhubarb and thinking about how fortunate I am…

I could see the flowers in bloom, hear the sound of the waterfall, watch the school of fish swimming in the pond, feel the warm air on my skin…

I have food to eat, a place over my head, work that I enjoy, and a group of friends and family to love…

plenty… of everything I need…

this morning the sky was overcast and I had to turn on lights… when I arrived at the office it was very misty from Empty Full…

IMG_7342.JPGwas expecting a call around 11:30 but it came at 8:45 so I had to rush home and let the people in who were coming to extract the freezer… I had expected they would be removing the freon and then cutting it into pieces to get it out of the basement… amazingly they were able to take off the lid and the door and get it through the doorway and up the stairs…

IMG_7344.JPGand then they agreed to take the fridge which was to be picked up on Thursday… I was so happy to have it all done at once as I have many other things to get done this week…

IMG_7343.JPGthere was a huge rainstorm this afternoon which filled up a large container that had been empty this morning… some water in the basement but not bad…

slept out on the deck last night… it was lovely… put three cushions on a lounge chair, two blankets and a pillow… not a single mosquito, woo hoo…

IMG_7319.JPGdid a bit of weeding, ate brunch in the garden, washed outdoor furniture and filled all the bird feeders…

spent some time reading and watching the birds flitting around… there was a drinking party and bath time happening too, lol…

IMG_7321.JPGafter cleaning out much of the water hyacinth I am getting a much better view of the fish as they swim around…

even the chickadee let me get a picture…

IMG_7323.JPGI got within arms length of a female Downy Woodpecker… must have stood there for about three minutes chatting to her, while she was trying to get a peanut out of one of the front feeders… lovely…

first thing this morning I walked over to “the A” to have breakfast with my son-in-law on his way home from work… spotted this bunny, just sitting there watching me…

IMG_7282.JPGI also spotted this new Little Free Library… there are more and more of these popping up…

IMG_7283.JPGsat out in the garden for a while and even did a bit of weeding…

my daughter picked me up and we went to Shelmerdine where I had some fun wandering around… picked up two butterfly bushes as well as some blue Veronica to replace the pink ones in the garden that I want to dig out… also found a few pots and house plants… then we stopped at a market garden and got peas, tiny potatoes and fresh bread… made myself grilled cheese and onion and sat out in the garden to eat…
