started off with an early morning hot tub…

received phone calls and messages throughout the day…

went for a walk and noticed how many trees were budding… it was a bit cool and overcast so had a nap when I got home… later in the day the sun broke through the clouds and we were able to sit out and enjoy the spring day…

kids came over and the boys did some yard work and then produced dinner… well, mostly Jeff… a lovely treat…

they also brought me an adorable small phaleanopsis orchid…

took back the brown cushion this morning and bought myself a few baskets of flowers…

came home, set out the cushions and moved the very big hanging lounger…

was very happy to discover poppies coming up in the garden beds that were redone last year during the pond reconstruction…

finally a decision has been made about the cushions…

tonight we went to two different Target stores to get the cushions for the rest of the chairs…

going with the green ones…

when I was working in the garden on the weekend I was thinking I needed to call the pond people about coming to put the pump in and see if the leak is fixed…

been really busy so hadn’t gotten around to it, but as I was heading out this morning I thought about it again…

was very happy to get a call from one of the pond guys to say he was going to come tomorrow and could I put the pump out for him…

this is hopefully the last picture of the pond without the waterfall running…

a couple of days ago I hung up one of my birthday presents from Cyndi and Ron…

used one of the command fasteners and apparently got the directions right, lol…

20140506-223923.jpgthis is a lid for bowls… it sits on top of the bowl and you can actually pick it up by the little handle… but it is easy to lift it from the edge… going to be way better than plastic or foil… may need to get another couple…

I also got purple toilet paper… very cool…

and my favourite gift was an infinity scarf covered with butterflies… sadly I forgot it at their house after wearing it every day while I was there, but they will bring it when they come in June…

great reminders of a wonderful time…

I love my garden furniture… we’ve had it for a long time… all of the chairs recline and I’ve been looking for five or six years to replace them but haven’t found anything that I like near as much…

the cushions have worn down and for nearly four years I’ve been trying to find someone to remake them…

the cost to redo each one was about $250 each… last year I found some fabric but then couldn’t remember how much I needed…

just before I went to Ottawa, Crystal and Jeff found some cushions for me to look at…

I bought this brown one from Canadian Tire before I left…

20140505-221533.jpgthen they spotted one they thought might work from IKEA… sadly their colours weren’t what I wanted…

yesterday we went to Target and I picked up some green ones which I think will work fine…

now I have to decide if I want two of each or whether to take one back and get three more sets so they are all the same…

sea shells…

when I was about twelve a colleague of my dad’s gave me my first sea shell… it was an abalone from Florida where she had been on vacation…

ever since then I have collected shells… mainly from others who travelled all over the world, but some I have gathered myself…

since I was about twenty I have dreamed about a coffee table with a glass cover where I could put the shells so that they wouldn’t get dusty or dirty…

a couple of months ago I saw such a table at IKEA… it was fairly expensive and only came in an off-white colour…

today we were there again, and found the table in gray… gave in and bought it…

brought it home in two thin boxes and then Crystal put it together…

there were many, many pieces but she did a great job and got it together without a single extra piece…

then we spent some time reorganizing the living room, as the table takes up quite a bit of room…

next, will be digging out the box of shells and putting them into the drawer…

woo hoo… spent some time in the garden today…

20140503-213154.jpgplan was to tidy the back deck… the furniture was all stacked and there was a ton of cedar leaves all over it…

earlier in the day I had seen a couple of huge robins in the garden…

then I made myself pickerel, oven baked French fries, and pea pods for dinner…

20140503-215546.jpgthought about George as I was working in the garden and making supper… he was always the one who did the hard work in the garden… my job was to keep him on track, lol… and he was always the one who made the French fries… it was more than a year before I was able to make fish and chips, and even now it can be difficult…

I miss my beloved every day…

didn’t start work until two today as I was working a trade show into the evening, so I had a lovely morning…

started with a hot tub, listening to the birds and enjoying the beauty in the back yard… there is NO snow left…

vacation is over… but it was wonderful…
