barbecue, big girl pants, butter warmers, escargot, Happy New Year, lobster, steak, twice stuffed potatoes

celebrated New Year’s Eve tonight as Cyndi and Ron head home to Ottawa tomorrow…

there is a fairly set menu for New Year’s Eve… escargot in mushroom caps followed by steak and lobster… this year we also had Caesar salad and twice stuffed potatoes…

nearly forgot to put the potatoes in this afternoon but Cyndi was quick to remind me, lol… had to make a few that didn’t have onions for some special people…

at our house Christmas was always for the kids, but New Year’s was for the adults… for a number of years we went to friends and brought the little kids with us and put them to bed before we began to organize the dinner… not sure that a year has gone by that we didn’t barbecue our dinner… many years later the girls would come by for dinner on their way out to their New Year’s Eve parties…

now we tend to include the little boys in the celebration… tonight, adults had champagne and there was sparkling cider for the rest…

so far only one of the kids doesn’t want lobster, sigh… but it is wonderful to see them test new foods… we had some fun with the butter warmers as no matter where Crystal sits her warmer is always the coolest…

an evening with family while we are still all together…

barbecue, flowers, fresh veggies, lovely day, market, moon, more nature, quiet morning, Shelmerdine, star filled sky, storm

had a quiet morning around the house… actually put away all the glass balls from the Champagne Bubble Party…

we had a storm which started with lots of thunder and then the sky opened and it poured for maybe ten minutes… watched some TV and made myself a few things to eat…

then Crystal and the little boys came, transferred the car seat to my car and we went for a wander through Shelmerdine’s where we enjoyed some fall flowers and checked out mulch and many pumpkins… came across a colleague who looked stunning, having just been to a wedding out that way…

there weren’t very many folks around so the little people ran about checking out all the pumpkins and the trees and bushes…

we went to the market garden and picked up some lovely fresh veggies… we got corn on the cob, peas, yellow and green beans, green onions, garlic, tiny and medium sized potatoes, cauliflower and radishes…

when we got home we put a little roast on the barbecue and prepared yellow beans, corn, potatoes and a caesar salad for our dinner… it was lovely… sadly the littlest person is going through the no meat phase, although both of his brothers went down that path long before he did… while the roast and potatoes were just finishing the propane ran out on the barbecue so Jeff put a new tank on… should I have the desire to barbecue, there will be fuel, lol…

after supper we read a book and then everyone went home and I had a little nap… when I got up the moon was smiling at me through the tree and I took a couple of pictures…

since then I have been in the hot tub and enjoyed watching a beautiful star filled sky…

what a lovely day…

barbecue, big girl pants, cancer, death of my beloved, fairly good day, family vacation, fireworks, healthy, love and laughter, new traditions, precious moments, rough year, sad, saying farewell, steak and lobster, surgery

today was fairly good… I had an early hot tub, even though it was minus thirty-four or some such thing, because I just had to have one last one in 2012… the boys came over, Jeff added water to the hot tub, and we went grocery shopping…

usually on New Year’s Eve, George would have barbecued steak and lobster for dinner… as the kids were having a party, I decided we should have the special dinner tomorrow night, so no one would have to do any rushing around… George would barbecue on a regular basis and I miss that… I am going to have to put on those big girl pants and do it myself one of these days…

while we were out I bought some nice stuffed scallops, fresh asparagus and mushrooms for my supper…  I anticipated that the evening would be a little sad, but didn’t really feel like being around partying people…

this year's New Year's Eve dinner...

this year’s New Year’s Eve dinner…

had my dinner and have just been watching the fireworks which our Community Club has on New Year’s Eve…  often we would be watching TV and one of us would hear the sound, and we would stand together in the dining room watching them out the window…  tonight I did that on my own…

fireworks through the window...

fireworks through the window…

I am saying farewell to a rough year, and trying hard to look toward the excitement and new things that will be 2013… I look forward to tomorrow and starting new traditions with my family… fancy dinner on New Year’s Day… family vacation… who knows what else…

I have come through the death of my beloved, a cancer diagnosis, big surgery and a long recovery…  now I am healthy and surrounded by people who care about me… I continue to be blessed…

if I awake at midnight I will toast my beloved, the past and coming year, and maybe speak with my girls… if not, I will start the new year in the morning with a smile…

may your New Year be filled with precious moments and much love and laughter…
