after I was dressed and ready to leave this morning, the power went out…

called Hydro with my cell because the house phone was dead… then I spent some time trying to decide whether to stay home or go to the office…

decided to head to work… on the way out I took a few pictures of the first morning glories… they seeded themselves from last year…

got into the garage and went to push the button to open the garage door… duh… maybe I wasn’t going to work, lol…

called my daughter and while she was on the phone I pulled the cord that released the motor from the door…

opened it and drove the car out… closed it but it wouldn’t lock… didn’t know what to do and it was late, so I left it unlocked…

colleagues suggested it would reset when the power came on…

got a call about noon from Hydro advising that it was back…

when I got home I manually opened it and put the car in… tried the button and the motor came on but the door didn’t do anything… tried opening it higher but that still didn’t work…

went across the lane and asked my neighbour for help… he came over and showed me how to hook the motor back to the door…

if I have to do this again, will likely need to put the ladder in the empty garage to get up high enough, lol…

now, if only I can remember what to do…

today the African Violet blooms were open…

talked with a friend about how flowers can open so quickly…

thought about the morning glories and how they are all closed up in the morning and then by mid day are all open… hibiscus open in a similar fashion… and they are usually only open for one day…

you have to be paying attention or you can miss the whole thing…

my absolute favourite to watch though are poppies… if you sit quietly and watch you can actually see them open and the cover pop off…

always a wonder to spend the few minutes it takes for them to open…

makes me think about life and how we need to enjoy and celebrate every moment as we don’t know what is in store for us, or for others…

just spent an hour searching for four pictures of George to use for a project… was bittersweet… I miss him so much…

remember to tell the important people in your life that you love them… never know if you will have another opportunity to do that…

got a few pics on my way to the garage this morning… the morning glories are really enjoying this cooler weather and I am enjoying them… they really are one of my favourites…

there were a number of blooms when I left…

even four or five when I got home, which is unusual, as they are normally done by about noon… today was quite overcast and cool so that must have encouraged them to bloom longer…

the weather people are forecasting frost tonight… I hope they are wrong… but it does encourage me to get out into the garden and do some cleaning up…

being sure to take a moment whenever I go by them to enjoy their beauty as soon they won’t be blooming :-)…

had a good time with my sleepover friend… we counted morning glories (8)… we walked to the A for “the special” and got the rye toast that Grandpa liked… we worked in the garden, like Grandpa would have… one of us had a hot tub while the other continued with the garden work, like Grandpa would have…

had a couple of helpers throughout the day and one of them did some work in the pond… got one of the plants to stay upright, trimmed up some dead material, pulled out a broken glass ball and rearranged all the floats and glass balls…

fish were fed and numbers of people tried to find them, although they really hide well under the slate bridge…

went for dimsum and after the kids left, watched some TV and made a lovely dinner of pan seared steak with pan-fried potatoes, mushrooms and onions, and fresh tiny tomatoes from the garden…

a lovely day all around…

quiet day mostly… got up at five and had a lovely hot tub as clouds played peek-a-boo with the moon and dawn lit the sky… then back to bed for a few hours…

sat out in the garden and read, took photos, and enjoyed the pond till early afternoon…

 then watched a marathon of Top Chef Masters and napped…

picked up by the kids and went to the Olive Garden for dinner… I had been thinking about their salad and bread sticks for a while now… very long wait to get in, but most of our supper was good although Crystal’s wasn’t… the manager was quick to bring her something else so it all worked out well…

while there, we decided on a sleepover, so once we got home we watched a bit of TV, had a very nice time in the hot tub, and currently we are both eating popcorn and drinking purple koolaid…

feels like 27.6 Celsius right now… not sure what it got to this afternoon, but it was very hot…

there were three morning glories and I spent a bit of time enjoying them…

then I worked in the garden and took breaks to do some reading…

kids came for dinner and we discovered that one of my squirrel friends ate through a wire on the lawnmower so that will need to be fixed…

might just sleep out on the deck tonight…

hurried out to sit and admire the morning glories… and there weren’t any… hadn’t watered the garden and it was rather dry out there…

got out the hose and gave everything a nice drink… then sat by the pond and read and watched the water lily open up…

it was lovely to watch it open… could almost see it moving…

got pics on my phone and with the Nikon… sadly, tonight the laptop would not connect to the Internet so I am only putting up a couple of shots from my phone…

there were 5 blooms this morning… what a wonderful sight to behold…

every morning is a new surprise in the garden, although tomorrow I had better get out there and water and fertilize everything…

we have a bit of a tradition at work… we celebrate birthdays by circulating a card for everyone to sign and then pick up a rose for the birthday person… it is always fun to try and find a way to surprise them, because everyone knows the plan… today we had a lovely gathering and gave a colleague a beautiful orange rose…

we got some great pictures of the group and I got a couple of nice shots of the rose…

this morning I got up, put out the cushions in the garden and had a hot tub… it was lovely and the sun was shining… by the time I had searched for my book, the sky was overcast and after a short time we had a big thunderstorm…

water came into the basement again, but I now keep towels on the floor and because of the direction of the rain anticipated the problem… all cleaned up now but it does make me think that I will need to get someone in to look at this, sigh…

waited for quite a while before going out to do some shopping because I wanted to be sure everything stayed dry downstairs…

saw a squirrel jump from the corner of the garage to one of the trees along the fence… have never seen that before…

went to a number of stores… BestBuy was one because the wireless mouse on the laptop just stopped working on Friday, and I really dislike using the mouse pad… got me a beautiful white one with some lovely purple on it… working very well…

then I went to the Apple Store looking for a genius because I’ve been having a couple of issues with my iPhone 5… pictures that I send to myself from my phone are all of a sudden embedded in the email and no longer attached… this is quite a pain as I often take pictures for the blog with my iPhone… have a short term solution but no one really seems to know why this happens…

second problem is that I can’t iMessage one of my girls… works fine for everyone else, except her all of a sudden… they couldn’t figure that one out and have sent a request to the engineers to see if they can figure it out…

this evening had barbecued steak for dinner, which doesn’t sound like that big a deal, except that I did the barbecuing… first time since George’s death… it was excellent and I was able to get it going without a problem…

on Saturday I took some time at the computer to gather pictures of flowers as I have been asked for some by a friend who wants to decorate her new space with a number of framed photos…

it was a lovely hour or so that I spent going through all the pictures taken in 2012 and 2013 and copying the flower shots into a folder…  apparently, I really like morning glories, poppies and orchids…  on Sunday we went through the 600 pictures that I had moved and she chose a hundred that will need to be sifted through…

after she left on Sunday I spent another hour or so doing the same thing with 2011 pictures…  found another 500 or so…  she has those now to sort through as well…

one of the things that I have found about writing posts for my blog is that I have taken the time to find pictures that have come to my mind as I write…  some of them have been easy to find, and others have taken a bit of digging, and along the way I have discovered many pictures that I had completely forgotten about…

I have come across a number of my BS group… often when we go out for a special event we will have a picture taken of all of us…  it is fun to remember where we were and what we were doing when the photos were taken…  it has made me think I need to do some cross-filing by group as well as date…

tonight we had a good visit although it felt a bit poignant to me as we only have one more gathering before one of us leaves to work in another city… she will be returning home every other weekend but we won’t all be together on Monday nights for quite some time… we have done this before when one of us moved to the States for a few years but being on the phone isn’t the same as being in the same room…

so, now another half hour has gone by as I searched for just the right pictures to add into this post, lol…

the words to The Way We Were by Marvin Hamlisch have been running around in my head since last night’s Oscar performance by Barbra Streisand…
