today marked 44 years since I married my beloved… I decided to spend the day at home and remember the fun times we enjoyed over the years…

spent a good portion of the day in the garden… mowed the grass and then took an hour to research and wrap the cord on the spool for the whipper snipper… not sure if it is right but will have Jeff check it out on Monday…

spent some time reading and even did a bit of weeding…

think I have found something to get rid of the string algae, so ran out and picked up the powder from Pet Traders and put some of it into the far end of the pond… will see how it looks tomorrow…

Crystal and the three boys came over after she got off work and we picked up pizza and chicken wings, took it to the Park and had our supper as we waited for Friday night movies at the Lyric…

after we watched The Croods, we headed home and I read outside in the garden until it was dark and then came in…

a lovely day filled with good memories and no tears…

this morning it was beautiful and I couldn’t leave the garden without a wander around… noticed how the babies are growing… could see at least three different sizes…

found these lovely flowers in the purple begonia basket…

they were a lovely surprise because I wasn’t expecting flowers on that plant…

tonight when I arrived at home the plants all needed a drink so I wandered around and gave each one a soaking…

as I was standing by the pond I looked down and saw more new babies… about the length of my little fingernail…

another great surprise was that the water lily that over wintered in the pond has put out some leaves…

unfortunately the water isn’t running yet as I wait to hear from a couple of people about how to clean out the pump which is under rocks… think it is clogged with string algae… now I am looking for String Algae Buster in Canada…

spent a little time wandering in the garden tonight…

the hibiscus was quite lovely…

still waiting to see if the baby’s breath is going to smell – like urine…

can’t decide about the pink flowers… but I do have a friend who will take them if they don’t make the cut…

the basket with the begonias in it continues to look amazing…

I turned the waterfall off as it was barely going… waiting to hear from the pond people about what I should be doing…

might have my son-in-law come and dig the pump out of the rocks and see if it is obstructed… don’t think our cheap sump pump ever got plugged up, lol…

going to get up early tomorrow and water everything before heading to work…

another beautiful morning in the garden…

watched two squirrels snacking
under the bird feeder while I had an early morning hot tub… the bluejays were at the feeder and there is obviously a baby in their family who was located in one of the cedars, and he was very hungry from the sound of things…

finished the book and watched squirrels drink and a bluejay bath in the pond…

can’t figure out who is knocking over the plant in the pond… maybe a squirrel…

a dragonfly stopped by… quite red… got a good shot of it with one of the fish swimming over…

made supper for the kids and had a nice visit with them… a beef roast with baked potatoes, cucumber in sour cream, salad and zucchini, mushrooms and fresh peas… they brought Slurpees, which was great as it was hot… even now it feels like 33.2…

was in the garden by nine this morning…

filled a bucket with weeds as I tidied the garden around the pond…

I was hot when I sat down with my tea and kobo…

after reading for a while it seemed really hot so I checked the temperature and it was 33.9, guess that explains it… I spent time watching the fish in the pond and the goldfinch who stopped by… there was a big butterfly and a number of dragonflies in the garden… and many, many mosquitoes…

there are three light coloured baby fish and two dark coloured ones… they are likely gold coloured but in the pond turn black…

came in just after noon and napped and read…

just checked the temperature…

this morning the fish were busy in the pond looking for something to eat…

instead of putting out the garbage and recycling, I wandered around the garden basking in the peace…

another warm and sunny day…

as soon as I got through the garage door tonight I made my way over to the pond to see if I could spot the baby fish… instead I spotted this water hyacinth starting to bloom…

I am quite excited about this because they only bloom for one day and then the blossom slips under the water…

hard to believe that the flowers are getting thirsty again after all that rain… the begonia basket is absolutely beautiful, filled with blossoms, apparently they love this weather…

sadly, the water level in the pond is falling…

since the uv filter was installed the water flow has been slower and there has been a bit of leaking…

my pond guy came by and fixed the flow but now it is seriously leaking…

you can see where the water is going…

my hand-blown purple float does look good in the garden…

been getting jobs done at a rapid rate today… picked up wine, bug spray and groceries… had hot tub water tested and picked up a couple of other things…

going to have a short nap and then pick up the kids just before midnight…

there are still lots of things to plant in the garden but I didn’t get anything done tonight…

on my way to the car this morning I realized the water in the pond was very low, I spent about five minutes filling it… that amount of time didn’t add very much water…

was worried that the fish might get in trouble if it got much lower…

tonight I am sitting here as it fills up, enjoying the beautiful evening… birds are singing and the sound of the water is soothing…

we think it is leaking again due to something happening when the uv filter went in…

my pond guy is planning to stop by Thursday or Friday to sort out the problem…

I have noticed that when it rains the pond doesn’t get all murky like it was in the fall so I think the swale they built fixed that problem which is wonderful…

I think I am taking on some of George’s characteristics because now when I walk through an area in the garden I find myself pulling weeds as I go and then going back to pick them up off the ground later, lol… I kept trying to get him to carry a small pail so he didn’t have to retrace his steps…

what a serene and peaceful place I inhabit…

enjoyed a lovely morning… got my hair purpled and then went to a garden centre where I had way too much fun…

had a very large cart which was hard to maneuver around the plants, but amazingly I managed…

got some help with what to put in the pots that are going into the front bed… hope I can remember what goes with what…

was forced to stop shopping when I ran out of room in the cart… but I did get a beautiful water hyacinth and a lovely water lily for the pond…

unfortunately I worked on one of the ponds in the garden and spent a bit too much time in the sun… may have a touch of sunstroke as I’ve been feeling sick for the rest of the day…
