last night a colleague prepared a number of vases with flowers for an event we held this evening…
here is what one looked like…
just beautiful…
I had a wonderful time taking some photos and enjoyed every moment…
there are many flowers in the house… two orchids, purple mums, tulips and now these beauties…

I was so excited when I got home tonight…
the pond was running…
I knew that someone was coming to look at it, but was so busy that I had completely forgotten…
when I stepped out onto the deck I could hear it… I love the sound of the water running…
sadly when I got close I could see that the waterfall is leaking… spoke to the pond guy and he is aware and will be checking into it…
hope the water doesn’t drop too low while they are figuring it out…
looking forward to the fish moving back in…
can almost hear the splash…
the window is open, and even though it is dark, I can hear the water running in the pond…
bliss…

one of the most difficult things to get sorted out is my late night snack…
the trick seems to be what time I need to eat it…
supposed to have protein every time I eat and trying to figure out just the right time for the last snack is complicated…
apparently our pancreas sends out a burst of insulin every morning around three… because mine isn’t quite well behaved, it kind of drips instead of just spewing out a single amount…
apparently the idea is to eat food that encourages the pancreas to send out a burst of insulin and then stops instead of the drippy business…
one of my favourite snacks is popcorn and almonds… make it in a Tupperware measuring cup with a lid… then add a tiny bit of canola oil and salt…
popcorn is always served in a plastic fish bowl… tastes better that way:-)…
appears that eating about ten or ten thirty seems to be the best…
always learning about this new way of being…

busy day… up fairly early because the birds were singing away before dawn… had a few tough moments missing my beloved… amazing how those moments just materialize and you have to wait them out…
went to Dollarama looking for a small drinking glass but they didn’t have any… I did find a cute tray… looks a bit like the dining room chairs, lol… 
on to the grocery store where I loaded up on veggies and some tulips jumped into my cart… 
grocery shopping is getting more expensive, but I have tons of healthy food for the next week or so… once everything was put away, had a nap and lunch…
sat in the garden reading for a few hours and then the kids arrived for dinner… steak and lobster with baked potato, mushrooms. asparagus and Caesar salad… yummy…
doorbell rang and a fellow was wanting to do some yard work to raise money for his hockey playing son… 
while we finished cleaning up the kitchen, he and his family cleaned out the front flower bed and raked the front yard…
ran out to take a picture of the finished product and caught the mallards, who live in our creek, as they flew over… 
excellent day…

on my way downstairs this morning I ran back to the bedroom and got my phone so I could take this picture…
it was 6:37 am… the sky was amazing…
this was out the same window at 7:15 am…
was supposed to be sunny all day but this did not bode well…
the sky was beautiful as we drove downtown at 8:05 am… I love it when the sun shines through clouds…
the sun did shine for the entire day which was wonderful…
as I write this it is just getting dark outside… light really is staying longer every day…
although I was off on Monday, it feels like it has been a long week…

everyone is so excited for spring…
the crows were chatting amongst themselves as I was heading out to my ride this morning…
there were a couple of them in the tree…
as we turned onto the next street I caught sight of a good-sized brown bunny…
on my way home tonight I walked part way and enjoyed the birdsong and the sun on my face…
got a shot of these buds bursting into leaves…
sun was shining and the wind had died down… just beautiful out…
just this morning I was thinking about how light it is so early…
looking forward to more warm and sunny days…
yay spring…

started the day with this beautiful African violet…
lovely to see the flower and the many buds…
attended a great presentation by Cy Wakeman… she shared some excellent points about leadership in a humorous, but very direct way… certainly made me think about my own leadership style…
was particularly taken with her comments “reality is the birthplace of innovation” and “quit believing what you think”…
lots to think about…
fit some time in on the treadmill at lunch… ate well all day… off to do a few more steps…
was a good day…

today was the first day of my .9 time, so I was home…
was looking forward to running a few errands, maybe even working in the garden… but woke up to this…
really!!! and it was cold and windy…
got dressed and was ready to head out but then decided that I didn’t really need to run those errands…
so, I took off those clothes, stayed abed and watched tv all day…
warmed up a lovely dinner of last night’s leftovers…
had tea with one of my BS buddies, and climbed into bed…
it was nice to do nothing after the busy weekend of birthday activities…

more birthday fun continued today…
once the boys woke up (after 8), we drove to the “A” for breakfast as it was chilly and rainy… the whole purpose of breakfast out was so we could walk, lol…
downtown for lunch and a Habitat for Humanity Garden Party and Fashion show…
on to IKEA where I picked up two utensil holders… they were not the ones I really wanted but they will work fine… the last bit of red has now left the kitchen…
home to put the finishing touches on supper… all excited about the reheated mashed potatoes which will not affect my blood sugar the way freshly cooked ones do…
been looking forward to this dinner for over a week… our tradition is to have the birthday person choose their favourite meal and that is what we have…
roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy and stuffing are one of my favourite meals… haven’t had normal mashed potatoes since Christmas dinner because of the diabetes issues…
usually you don’t have to make your own birthday supper and my son-in-law was really against me making the dinner, but it was what I wanted…
it was delicious and I certainly enjoyed every mouthful…
lots of eating today…

woke up way too early… went out for a hot tub and watched the light come up as the birds sang in the trees… opened my parcel from Cyndi and Ron and found a beautiful bead…
which, I discovered a little later, she had made… also some black currant and vanilla tea… gonna try that tomorrow…
went for dimsum with the kids and enjoyed every bite…
then we headed over to The Forks for the Chocolate Festival… wandered around for a couple of hours collecting small bits of a variety of chocolate items… they were tiny and I didn’t have all of them but did get tastes…
ended our visit with a walk down by the river…
lots of steps today…
came home, had a rest and made mashed potatoes and stuffing for tomorrow’s supper…
lovely collection of birthday treats…
calls, emails, posts all added to my special day… and to top things off I have two sleepover buddies tonight…
