many of my friends have, and use, trekking poles (sounds much better than walking sticks)…

since my knee issues, I’ve wondered whether it might be an idea to get some if I’m doing any amount of walking…

the physio has certainly helped my balance, but I decided to check the poles out…

I went to Diamond Athletic Medical Supplies and got a pair that are orange and they have little feet on them…

the person helping me figured out how long they need to be, so I have to remember that number on the side of them…

I’ve since marked the line with a sharpie, following a recommendation from a friend…

much easier than remembering, lol…

while we were at my friends’ cabin, I slept on a soft bed… I always bring a comforter and my own pillow, then just fold the comforter in half and treat it like a sleeping bag…

I realized after the first night that my back and knees didn’t hurt at all… and that kept up for the whole trip…

so, I decided to look for a topper for my mattress…

my daughter suggested I try using the thin mattress in the pullout couch… my housemate brought it upstairs and I got it onto the bed and put the sheets and covers over it…

after all that, it didn’t make a difference… so took it off and returned it to the den…

next we went looking for bed toppers…

they were rather expensive and made me wonder if I needed to replace the mattress, which is about twelve years old… when I saw my physio guy, he suggested most mattresses needed to be replaced after ten years…

so, we went shopping… in person and online… did you know that soft (or plush, to use the correct term) mattresses cost more than the 90% that are firm or medium firm😳…

we finally found a company that has been in business for over thirty years and make the mattresses right here in the city…

the person we spoke with, and bought from, was very knowledgeable and didn’t try to upsell us…

and it was ready and delivered in five days, so I could enjoy it (hopefully with happy knees and back)…

I also arranged for Mother Earth Recycling to pick up and reuse bits and pieces of the old mattress 🙂…

now I have a happy back and knees…

ran out and picked up sushi for supper last night…

usually we go to our favourite place or order from different places as they don’t deliver…

it was delicious and still hot… happy we went and picked it up…

we also did a great job of ordering as there were just two little rolls left over… often we over-order and have too many leftovers…

and really, sushi is not as good the second day😋…

a lovely treat…

it was a beautiful day, so I decided to do my exercises beside the pond…

when I rolled out the mat, the top end went into the water, so I had to wait for the mat to dry, lol…

what a treat to listen to the water falling and watch the sky and trees overhead while I went through the steps…

my housemate took a video, after I was done, of a few of each of the exercises…

had a dentist appointment the other day, and it included what I call everything…

that means x-rays, scaling, polishing, and an exam by my dentist…

my hygienist is amazing and does a great job of making the x-ray process as quick as possible because I am a gagger, sigh…

once we got through everything the dentist discussed putting a crown on one of my front teeth… it has been filled a few times, but the fillings never stay…

happily, she agreed to do nothing right now, but likely in October we will need to move forward with this…

hopefully, some portion of it will be covered by the new dental plan…

I am in the process of using a Libra 3 for the next few weeks…

the purpose is to see how the food I eat over that time affects my blood sugar…

it is kind of fun😊…

I’ve been taking photos of everything that has been going into my mouth and noting it down in the app…

still figuring out about how long it takes to go into my body and then cause a reaction…

over the two weeks, it is anticipated that I will have eaten the majority of my basic food intake…

every morning, while at my friends’ cottage, when I woke up, I would walk down and sit on the steps leading to the beach…

usually I’d spend an hour or so watching and listening to the waves…

it was always fun to watch the shore birds as well as the gulls and pelicans in the early morning quiet…

the first and last thing I did was to run down to the beach to say hello and goodbye😊…

I spent a delightful five days with friends at their family beach cottage…

delicious food, great company, naps, lots of conversation, and I was in the lake, at least once, up to my neck…

spent lots of time on the beach, early in the morning, on my own, and all together on a few days…

we walked a good portion of the beach a few times with our newly prepared walking sticks…

and walked the road to the pump, which had a snake handle…

there was also a real snake😳… which had me stomping and speaking loudly as I walked along where it had been seen…

weather was nice, lots of sunshine, a bit of wind and some rainy/overcast times… so, a bit of everything…

my particular expertise is washing the dishes…

other than that it was all about reading…

we did play ladder golf, a new game to me, (although I may have seen my grandsons play a version of it a number of years ago), which was fun…

what a treat 😊…

my daughter recently sent me this postcard to remind me how close we are to our big trip…

for my birthday – the big 75 – I decided to take the train through the Rockies and visit gardens on Vancouver Island…

planning started last summer, and we had to book our train trip by December to be able to travel in September… crazy, lol…

next we searched for gardens that we would like to visit, besides the Butchart Gardens, which were first on the list…

then came looking at other spots in and around Victoria that we would like to see… we are going to have as many afternoon teas as possible, lol…

finding accommodations for our stay took a bit of work, but we found a lovely AirBnB close to the Butchart Gardens (and a Butterfly garden)… our second place to stay is a cute little hotel that faces the ocean in Victoria…

and finally, first class flights were booked back home… as I haven’t travelled for ages, the flights were covered by points… how cool is that;-)…

now to think about what I need to pack for a train trip and fall on Vancouver Island…
