before leaving this morning I took a few pictures of flowers in the garden…

the mandevilla is filled with blossoms and flowers…

it is just loving its spot in the garden and the weather…

looking toward the pond from the deck, got a nice pic of the canna with the waterfall in the background… happy that it is going through another set of blooms…

stopped on my way home to get my hair cut… bit short, but it will grow…

I always go on Wednesday because that is seniors’ day… today I mentioned that Wednesday is my day because of the savings and the woman gave me back a toonie and said I needed to tell them because she would never have thought I was a senior… should have given her a bigger tip… it did make me feel good, lol…

been talking with different people about reaching senior status… depending where you are, the number can be anywhere from 55 to 65… I have been quick to access the discounts because I am happy to have reached whatever the age is… at Perkins they have a 55 plus menu which has smaller size portions… perfect for me… at a number of attractions when I was in Ottawa, there were discounts for ages 64 and over…

looking forward to collecting Old Age Security when I turn 65… friends have had different reactions when they started collecting it… some were thrilled to be getting some additional funds and others were shocked that their lives were coming to a close, and they wondered what they had done with it…

interesting how we all see things differently… guess that’s what makes us us, lol…

benefits, George, insurance, paperwork, strong, surgery

today I was reminded of the couple of times that I was off work for a few months at a time, and another when George died…

once was four years ago when I ended up in hospital with pancreatitis and then had my gall bladder removed… we were supposed to have flown to BC but instead I spent six weeks in the hospital and eight weeks recovering at home… George was with me throughout the whole process and supported me as I dealt with all of the paperwork as I struggled to get some benefits from Service Canada… eventually I jumped through all of the hoops and got a little support… we celebrated our 40th anniversary while I was in the hospital…

then, when he died I went through the process of filling out numerous forms, terrified that I might do something wrong which would mean I wouldn’t get his insurance benefits…

two years ago next week I went through another serious surgery… this time without George… besides having to get through the surgery and recovery on my own, I had to go through the process again to get funding… it was not any easier the second time around…

all of those experiences were very stressful… particularly when already going through a difficult situation…

as I look back on them I realize how strong I actually was… but still remember the fear every time I had to fill out one of those forms…

beloved, benefits, big girl pants, health insurance, Manulife, no waiting period, Rona, Sun Life

well, after weeks of waiting and comparisons I think I have a plan for my health insurance…

when my beloved left me, RONA provided me with two years of survivor benefits and they run out next Thursday…

I didn’t realize what a complicated process it was to get insurance…

for a while it looked as though I was going to have to wait for three months once I got the insurance…

I was also worried as to whether I would qualify if I had to go through a medical… although I am cancer free it was worrisome if having had uterine cancer would disqualify me from insurance…

I also had no idea about the cost… after speaking with the Sun Life people, where the RONA plan was, I discovered that it would cost me $200 a month for similar benefits to those I’ve had over these last two years… thanks RONA, for those benefits…

eventually I found a broker who was able to find a roll-over program which will cost about $117 a month… no more dental coverage, but medical/pharmaceutical which is more important…

good news, it will take effect next week and there isn’t a waiting period… AND there is no medical required…

those big girl pants have been well used recently…
