I’ve talked about how much I need flowers in January and February… they make me feel good…

here are some shots I have taken over the last couple of days…

this rose replaced one that drooped over last week… had to take a few pics because it had tiny droplets of water on it…

this rose is a stunning orange and was for a colleague’s birthday… another beauty…

sadly, my hydrangeas are finally on their last legs… I have enjoyed them every day…

this is my orchid tonight… it is beautiful and seems to be doing very well…

had a rather hectic day…

in amongst all the activity these beautiful flowers arrived…

they were a surprise from my colleague, who is admiring them in the picture…

I love flowers and have been missing them the last few weeks… George always made sure I had live flowers during January and February to help make the winter easier… so far I haven’t been able to pick any up as it has been too cold to have them in the car… he would warm the car up and then pop the flowers in and rush home, lol…

on our way out of the office I had to stop and take a picture of the gorgeous sky…

it was still light at 5:03… that is very exciting…

made dinner, had a nap and then walked on the treadmill for 45 minutes…

had a great sleep last night and as I was heading downstairs saw this lovely view outside…

spent most of the day resting but I did work on some chicken soup…

this afternoon my pond guy came by and put in a new pump…

IMG_8888.JPGit looks good, so far… we’ve decided to take out the uv filter and try putting a skimmer in beside the pond to collect algae and other debris… the thought is that it will be outside of the pond where I can get to it easily… this likely won’t happen until the spring… the fish are still happy outside but soon they will need to come in to their winter condo…

while out there I got a few pictures of some flowers that are still hanging on.. sadly we’ve already had a few frosts…

spent a quiet day doing things around the house…

realized again how blessed I am… able to do whatever I want…

IMG_8765.JPGenjoying the beautiful flowers as I was working on the dining room table for Monday’s dinner…

able to have all the food we want for our Thanksgiving celebration… dug out a chicken from the freezer, got turnip, potatoes and squash in the last few days…

have the time and items to make the table special… pulled out dishes that had belonged to our elders to bring them to the dinner…

tonight I made myself a steak… cooked it in a frying pan with help from Gordon Ramsey… well a video online, lol… it was delicious…

had a wonderful morning in the garden and down the street…

IMG_8358.JPGwas working a later shift, so spent a couple of hours in the sunshine… watched the morning glories open…

IMG_8365.JPGwhile I was standing at the pond this squirrel came by and gave me a good look before leaving…

IMG_8366.JPGand this chickadee came to the feeder right beside me… very strange because usually they are quite nervous of anyone in the area…

IMG_8361.JPGwandered down to the park at the end of the street to get some pictures of the Virginia creeper, which was spectacular… took a lot of shots…

as I walked back up the street spent some time with this gorgeous tree…

the other day when I was cleaning out that difficult drawer, I came across this key…

IMG_8148.JPGthought it looked like the one for the safety deposit box they showed me at the credit union …

very excited and hopeful, I stopped in on my way home tonight to see…

the person I showed it to thought it was theirs as well… she found another
staff person and we went into the vault and they tried it in two boxes, both with the same number…

it didn’t fit either… we’ve had that
safety deposit box for probably forty years… think they moved it when the credit union moved to its new location, lol… haven’t been in it since 2005… and I’m fairly sure it is empty…

they can have a locksmith come in and drill it open for about $150, so if I can’t find the key I may have to do that…

currently I pay around $50 per year for it… used to be about $15 which didn’t seem too expensive…

tonight a few flowers were still blooming, even though the temperature has been very chilly for the last few days…

and smell the roses, or in this case, the flowers…

IMG_7246.JPGif you remember last time when I came home at the end of the day the flower had fallen off… wasn’t sure if it was the wind…

IMG_7251.JPGbut, tonight, when I got into the garden the blossoms were both on the ground… possibly another one-day only flowering plant… must see if I can figure out the name of it…

there is another blossom which will hopefully open on the weekend and I can spend some time by the pond enjoying it…

this morning I got a picture of a flower on one of the plants in the pond… don’t know what it was and it was a lovely surprise because I wasn’t expecting any flowers…

first thing I had a very peaceful hot tub in the rain…

then I spent a good portion of the day watching some PVRed shows once I talked to MTS because it hasn’t been working since Friday night when the tech person was here to work on the wifi…

did take a walk to the Park to check out the tulips in the English Garden… they were nearly done but I got a few pics, although they are on my camera, not my phone… this picture is of the pond in the Leo Mol Garden…

napped, watched more tv, and got a few pictures of the planters on the front step…the plants have obviously enjoyed the gentle rains over the last few days… good timing to get them all into the ground or pot, lol…

tonight I spent a bit of time in the garden…

sadly, not to plant, just to sit and read…

while I was out there robins were singing and the goldfinch family came by for a snack, and sang for their supper…

while enjoying the music of the waterfall, I also spent time watering… particularly as I haven’t had the energy to plant the rest of the haul from Saturday and Sunday… hoping to keep them alive until Saturday morning when I am sure to get them into the ground or pots…

two exciting things…

20140605-212714-77234812.jpgthe poppies are thinking about blooming… quite slow this year, but I am thrilled that they came back on their own…

20140605-212834-77314845.jpgand the coneflowers have started to grow… this is also very exciting because I was sure they weren’t going to return… we’ve had them in the garden before but George would pull them out every spring because they look much like a weed…

my plan is to let everything grow for a while, until I am sure it is a weed or a plant I want to keep…
