worked this morning but was home by 12:30… changed and walked over to the Park to meet my BS friends for a birthday lunch on the patio at The Park Cafe…

walked under this tree which seemed to have flowers and berries on it at the same time…

  

gorgeous day and enjoyed the walk…

we had a wonderful time together…I had a burger with coleslaw on a pretzel bun…

  
yummy… not sure when I last ate a burger but that was what I wanted today…

am always amazed at the depth of our conversations, even after twenty-five years… today we talked about our end of life wishes as well as how we had dealt with our elders’ transitions from life to death… there is a deep well of wisdom within these women…

after lunch I took a quick trip around my favourite gardens before heading home…

was very surprised to see that all the lilac bushes have been removed from two areas… they had been there since the gardens opened… it was just a few weeks ago that I had rested under a canopy of lilacs enjoying the beautiful scent…

  
removing them has certainly opened up the garden… and I’m sure that I will get used to the new look…

change is always happening, whether I am ready for it or not…

started the day with a walk to the grocery store to pick up some dishwasher soap… sadly I had none and was having company for dinner so needed to get the current dirty dishes washed… 

decided to walk to get my exercise and it was sunny and warm out, so away I went… sign on the door of the store advised that their internet was down and they were only taking cash… usually I have sixty or eighty dollars in my wallet, but when I checked there was only a ten dollar bill… luckily the soap was only $7, phew…

I’ve been doing a lot of big girl pants activities recently and thought I deserved a treat, so called and booked an appointment for a pedicure…  

had to wait for my time slot but really enjoyed the pedicure… had a lovely young woman who was very gentle and gave me a wonderful foot massage which is my favourite part, lol.. pretty toes now…    

picked up some sushi and tried to get the car washed, but there was a huge lineup so I just kept driving…

had a rest, tidied the house and waited for friends to arrive for dinner…

had a wonderful evening…

had a lovely lunch at Jane’s… met a great friend and we had a wonderful time… lots of laughter and sharing of stories… always enjoy our time together…

the space is bright and open and the ceilings are very high… the staff were so cute and worked very hard to make sure we had a great experience… it is staffed with culinary school students…I had lamb shank with couscous, broccoli rabe, ribbons of carrot and zucchini,  with a pear salsa… yum… everything tasted very nice although I didn’t finish the couscous… I still haven’t had any that I’ve enjoyed…

brought home my flowers after work… trimmed the stems and rearranged them into two vases… one for upstairs…



and one for the living room… the vase they came in is very beautiful…



what a lovely way to end a long week…

had a very full week and today was busy too…

spent a few hours at work and the little boys met me there…

we went to the Zoo for the afternoon… had a wonderful time… focussed on the Journey to Churchill… saw most of the bears and got to sit beside Hudson for a few minutes…

the boys were amazing and we had tons of fun…

came home and met up with mom and the biggest boy…

what a wonderful evening…

picked up by friends and headed to Tres Visi Cafe on Grosvenor and Stafford…

dinner was delicious…

veal with lemon and capers, fettuccine Alfredo on the side… the picture doesn’t do it justice… sadly the wait person and I had a slight communication problem but she was quick to redo the meal so that I got this one… it was amazing and I ate every scrap on my plate… should have taken a picture of the after… would have licked it but didn’t want to embarrass my friends, lol…

we were celebrating two birthdays – one each from July and October… there was a great deal of conversation about how we would divide up the bill to be sure that the birthday women didn’t pay for their own meal, but contributed to the other birthday person… what we decided was that we should only celebrate one at a time because it was way too difficult to calculate for two…

superior service the entire time we were there…

lots of laughter and conversation…

this morning I woke up with a headache… not the greatest start to the day…

had an 8 am dentist appointment for a filling… was very proud of myself… for the first time ever I wasn’t gripping the chair the entire time… I have been very nervous of dentists since I had a bad experience when I was little… my dentist specializes in “chickens“, lol…

the headache didn’t go away, so when I got home, I slept for an hour and a half… still there when I got up, but I made some supper and got ready to go out…

one of my BS buddies picked two of us up, and we peeled and sliced just under 15 pounds of potatoes for another member of the group… her brother’s memorial service is tomorrow and the extended family will be gathering at her place for dinner… she is a great cook and it was fun to see her family recipe for scalloped potatoes, slightly different than the ones we each use…

were done in an hour and home shortly after…

heading to bed looking forward to waking up with a clear head…

just finished a great hot tub with a couple of my BS buddies…

the sky was clear and as we were chatting one of us spotted the space station crossing the sky…

I now get email notifications advising what time it will be passing overhead… this is helpful because I’ve seen it a few times but not been positive that’s what it was…

sometimes it is huge and bright and then it gets tiny and dull… I think it must be turning…

tonight, even though the moon is nearly full, the stars in the sky are amazing… often I can only see five or six… way more tonight… maybe on Friday or Saturday I will sleep on the deck…

the mosquitoes chased me in just as the moon rose over the trees…

last night I took a few shots of the moon through clouds on my phone… must have spent half an hour watching it out the bedroom window… picture doesn’t do it justice…

after work I was picked up and went to meet with my Reimagining friends…

we had a lovely dinner of chili and left-over salad and delicious butter pecan tarts…

our program consisted of some readings from Celtic Devotional by Caitlin Matthews who has a wonderful way with words… we read bits and pieces about Beltane (the season of summer) and talked about the natural world around us and taking the moments to see and hear what is going on around us…

wonderful opportunity to stop, and feel the joy of friendship…

arrived home in time to take a few pictures in the garden… the first is of the poppies that bloomed today… they are a bit worse for wear this evening, but quite a few were blooming…

really a great day…

watched the rising sun peek out through the trees in the garden…

20140417-204002.jpglunch with a friend… we were celebrating our birthdays which are ten days apart… we talked and laughed and giggled our way through a really bad meal… it was wonderful to spend time together…

it seems hard to find the time to be with friends, as all of our lives are full…

tomorrow I am having lunch with my BS buddies… we are one birthday lunch behind so will be celebrating a January birthday and my April one…

was talking with someone a few days ago about how we often sign the card right at the table… one or another of us gets the attention of the birthday woman and they pretend not to notice what is happening…

we have a gift bag that has circulated for many, many years… it is always fun to figure out who has it, and where they might have put it, lol…

tonight I spotted more of the pond edging and last night the solar lights were glowing…

this morning I heard about the birth of friends’ first grandchild… they have been waiting for a while now as she was a little bit late… very cute, she looks just like her daddy… my friends are “over the moon” as they start down the path of the new and amazing world of grand parenting… so much more fun than parenting, lol…

at the end of the day, got some very disturbing news as another friend discovered that she has some serious medical issues to overcome… not even sure I heard all of the information, as my head stopped processing at the beginning of the conversation…

what can I do for my friends… completely different events, but likely will need the same types of support… listening and celebrating each step of their new journeys, sending prayers and healing vibes…

really, where would we be without our friends…
