I have a similar picture to this on my computer sign in screen at work…

recently a colleague had been at my desk and took a few moments to admire the picture and advised me that she felt it looked just like a face…

made me think of George, who was always bringing me orchids… for home and the office…

I was missing him tonight as I was sitting in the hot tub… not feeling that great and remembering how well he took care of me when I was sick…

I always felt I was a much better patient than he was, lol…

he nearly always knew what I would like to eat and would organize it… often fried egg sandwiches would be on the menu… he really made the very best ones…

this picture is from 2011… around this time that year a couple of us took a photography class… we had such fun… it is great to go back and remember some of the great things we have done…

last night I spent some time in the hot tub…

was thinking about the conversations that George and I used to have there late in the evening, in the dark…

we’d talk about work, the house, the kids, everything…

went through the day missing him… we had a few jobs at the office that he would have helped sort out…

had problems with some technology during the day and this evening as well…

feel a bit like spring will never come… reminded me of a card I received from a former colleague, a number of years ago… came across it when I was working on the shelves in the hall… it mentioned that spring always comes…

trying to hold onto that… need to get some more flowers I think… they often help…

these crocuses have all died off now…

today, as I was waiting for my daughter and son-in-law to arrive from Ottawa, I spent some time cleaning up the computer room…

has been on my radar for months, but finally got to it today… my son-in-law looks after my computers when he is here, and sometimes from wherever he is… it has been some months since the desktop smelled like burning rubber and was turned off… hoping that he can perform some magic and bring it back to life…

this, of course, involves having a desk space that he can work on, and floor space to walk around… thus the cleaning binge…

also rearranged the wooden figures I pulled out last night… now Bethlehem is on the top of the shelf and across the living room the shepherds are watching their sheep…

Mary and Joseph are travelling in another area of the living room and the wise ones with their camels are located  somewhere else… across the room a number of northern animals are waiting patiently…

the kids and I had steak and lobster for dinner, but without our guests… they were still waiting to get on a plane in Ottawa… the weather has been bad in parts of Ontario today…

now I am heading to bed to be up at 1:30 am to collect them at the Base… this will be the first time I have gone on my own to pick them up…. I will be thinking of George as I head out… we were always so excited when they came home…

tonight I am excited on my own…

spent the day planting flowers… listening to the drums at the Park as marathoners went past, heard birds singing, lawn mowers going and geese flying overhead…

took breaks, but worked until the kids came for dinner just after 3… got 6 of the 9 planters around the deck done and numerous pots…

had a lovely dinner on the deck – ribs (thanks to Crystal for barbecuing them) and Caesar salad were the request so that’s what we had… then Jeff went out and mowed the front yard…

this morning I was missing George a fair bit, but as I worked away in the garden, I spent my time remembering what great fun we had in the garden and with our kids… I thought back to last year on this day and today was much better… that day was the worst day since he died… glad to be moving forward…

truly, I am blessed…

had two important papers to deal with tonight…

first one was from Krevco… it was the water test for the hot tub… when you refill it you need to take the water in to be tested to be sure that everything is balanced… filled the tub on Saturday and it took until this morning to get to 103 degrees, which is my favourite temperature…

as soon as I got home from work I took a sample in and then came home and started adding the chemicals at twenty minute intervals…  looking forward to a hot tub tonight…

then I headed to Ness Physiotherapy, which is quite close to home, and I think was the place that George went to off and on… it was my first time having physio so I was a little tense… Tori advised that the problem areas were the iliopsoas and tensor fascia latae… she pushed and prodded, pulled, did some fancy thing with electrical current and gave me a page with some exercises to do to strengthen the sore bits…

finally got home and had a nap and some dinner… now off to do some exercises – one reminds me of aquasize and the other of yoga, lol… and then a hot tub… which apparently is a very good thing for the above-mentioned problems…

was missing George throughout the whole process, but did put on the big girl pants and got it all done… some days that is easier than others…

participated in my first official photo shoot this morning…

it felt a bit odd… I have been taking pictures for years and have become more serious about it over the last few… just recently I even blogged about it for work…

but this morning, Ian McCausland was taking pictures of me…  I was the one listening to the directions to work it, turn this way, bend that arm, tilt the chin…

I was just one of a number of people who had participated and it was quite exhilarating and frightening to be the object of the photo as opposed to being the one taking the pictures…

although, I did that as well… it was great fun to take pictures as he was taking pictures… I got a couple of great shots… I also got to drool over his space and equipment… although photographing portraits is not my main area of interest it was quite eye opening…

a wonderful example of making great use of light and space…

since beginning my blog, I have tried to include at least one photo… so here is today’s…

had a lovely quiet day today…  it was quite miserable outside for a good part of the day… it wasn’t till around 4 or so that the wind died down and you could hear shoveling and snow blowing happening…

yesterday when we were walking around the zoo, Tavin and I were remembering that last year about this time we all visited the zoo and he made Grandpa read him every one of the signs, because Tavin couldn’t read then… I found this shot of them…

I spent some time doing a few chores and made some soup… then I napped and watched tv for a fair bit of the day…  it was a great break…

the only hard work was going out and shoveling the sidewalk to the street and from the steps to the driveway…  it was amazing how much snow blew into those couple of spots… I didn’t shovel out to the hot tub, but will try to do that tomorrow evening…

spent a few hours with my BS buddies and ate some wonderful carrot cake, yum…

now that all the Valentine’s Day hype is over, I have settled back to a more normal space, where, although I am missing George, it isn’t making me crazy…

was talking with some friends and they were commenting on how well I have managed since his death…

I only know that I have to keep moving forward, one step at a time, never forgetting George, but not living in the past either…

I enjoyed the day, thanks be…

today was Gray’s birthday party…

couldn’t catch a ride with anyone so drove myself there and back…  doesn’t seem like that big a deal, but I needed those big girl pants…  first time I have gone over there, in the car for a birthday party, without George…

amazing how I was missing him today…  I have pulled a muscle in my arm and some movements really make it hurt…  I haven’t been doing lots of driving so was a bit worried about my reaction time if there were any problems…

on the way there I watched a truck back up at a light and just about hit a woman who was walking behind it…  a little further on the car in front of me stopped quite suddenly and I skidded on a patch of ice when I put on my brakes…  need to remember to pump them…

so, I wasn’t looking forward to the drive home in the dark…

the birthday party was great…  there were lots of people, presents, food, cake and cupcakes…

when the cake was cut, I headed out…  the drive wasn’t too bad, although I was gripping the steering wheel rather nicely, lol…  both the car and I were happy to drive into the garage…

had a lovely day… lunch with a friend, napped and went swimming with two other friends…

before I left for swimming, George’s smiling face came up on my electronic picture frame – I had taken the picture just a few days before he died… I have been missing him quite a bit these last few days…  this has been a season of firsts, first Christmas, New Year, vacation, all without him…

at swimming it occurred to me that I am no longer having any problems with my insides as I don’t feel the mesh and I can twist without feeling any sensations during or after the exercise…

in Mexico I occasionally got tired, but I was able to do everything I wanted without suffering any side effects…

amazingly, the dolphins were able to push me up...

I can do anything!

its coming down to crunch time… just a few days left before I leave on my family vacation… bags are almost packed and last minute items have been purchased and slipped in somewhere… today was my last day at work and by four I had accomplished about 95% of what I had hoped for…

the exciting news is that my sandals arrived from Quarks online store, so my feet will be very happy as they wander all around the resort and on excursions…

the kids, big and little, are all excited too… I think the last time we were all on vacation together was the summer of 2008 when we all went out to visit Cyndi and Ron when they moved… at that time there were only two little boys… this time, there are three little boys, but no Grandpa…

after work tonight Crystal and I went and had pedicures and then we popped over to the mall to get a few final things…  came home and had a lovely chat with Cyndi as she waited for Ron to arrive in Calgary…

I am excited but also missing George… it is thanks to him that we can afford to take this trip… I would rather have him than the trip, but since that isn’t going to happen, I will make the best of it… I am planning to take pictures, and with the girls, produce a lovely photo book of our time, so that will be lots of fun…

and really, how bad can a week in Mexico be, lol…
