spent some time by the pond this morning… weather was beautiful and I hadn’t been in the garden for ages…

IMG_8543.JPGit was quiet as the pump has been out of the pond for over a week… took pictures of the fish which was a great opportunity as the water was still…

she helped me clean out the freezer and on our way to the garbage I realized that my pond guy had been and had the water running again and I was very happy…

last night and this morning I worked on a crockpot recipe for our potluck today…

for the last year or so we have had Souper Thursdays where we’ve taken turns bringing soup for our lunch…

today was our kick-off meal…

I chose to make crockpot scalloped potatoes… spent quite a bit of time on Pinterest looking for possibilities…

on Sunday I made a test batch which we had to go along with the tacos, lol…

came out very nice and were cooked perfectly…

last night I made the cheesy béchamel to go on top of the potatoes… I have always called it white sauce and have used the recipe that I learned in grade seven home economics class… still have the book… but really béchamel sounds so much fancier, lol…

I also prepped the onions and peeled the potatoes… I enjoy thinking of the people who will be eating my food as I work…

this morning got up, sliced the potatoes and filled the crockpot with the potatoes, salt and onions… then I poured the sauce over and took the whole thing to the office… plugged it in on high and left the crockpot to do its work…

hmmmm, apparently four hours wasn’t quite enough time, so had to nuke them to finish cooking right before our lunch… put a few more potatoes in and guess they needed just a bit more time…

but my crockpot is beautiful…

enjoyed a wander around the garden today…

IMG_7154.JPGlast night I enjoyed two of the ripe tomatoes, which were delicious… this one is just about ready…

IMG_7155.JPGone of the hydrangea blooms is so heavy it has fallen over… might look for something to stake it up…

IMG_7157.JPGwatered the hanging baskets and they are looking pretty good considering how hot it has been…

last night my daughter stopped by with this beautiful purple crockpot… I already have a nice silver and black one which she is going to take for her new kitchen…

was so happy yesterday to get a new hibiscus… looked lovely in the vignette on the deck…

20140602-223511-81311031.jpgthis afternoon when I got home it had two beautiful flowers on it… didn’t get out for a picture till dusk, but it still looks great… it is supposed to be a tri-colour so will see if some yellow and light pink blossoms turn up…

tonight I also had on the big girl pants when I removed an old scale off the wall and put up a very slim purple one…

enjoyed a lovely morning… got my hair purpled and then went to a garden centre where I had way too much fun…

a couple of days ago I hung up one of my birthday presents from Cyndi and Ron…

used one of the command fasteners and apparently got the directions right, lol…

20140506-223923.jpgthis is a lid for bowls… it sits on top of the bowl and you can actually pick it up by the little handle… but it is easy to lift it from the edge… going to be way better than plastic or foil… may need to get another couple…

I also got purple toilet paper… very cool…

and my favourite gift was an infinity scarf covered with butterflies… sadly I forgot it at their house after wearing it every day while I was there, but they will bring it when they come in June…

great reminders of a wonderful time…

woke up fairly early and spent some time deleting photos from my phone while the kids slept…

once they were up and dressed, we checked out of our room, got some directions and tickets from the concierge and headed out…

we went to Vasco da Gama for Montreal bagels…

20140427-220036.jpgthey were delicious… then we went in search of the Metro so we could get to the Montreal Botanical Garden…

20140427-220248.jpgtoday was the last day of a Butterflies Go Free exhibition… we had to walk up a hill but eventually got there and spent a couple of hours wandering through exhibits which included an orchid section and the amazing butterfly area… took many pictures and had an awesome time…

20140427-220932.jpgwas privileged to have one land on my head, which I felt, although I didn’t feel it lift off… maybe the purple in my hair looked tasty… after our fun there, we walked to the Biodome where we had a quick snack and wandered through four displays… saw a penguin that looked just like one from Happy Feet!

caught the Metro back downtown and had a last bite of poutine at La Belle Province…

not very often that I have visitors in the evening… well, other than Monday nights, lol…

tonight I had two different ones…

a colleague dropped off a picture for me to check out and see if I want to use it on the new purple wall… thinking I like it, but will need to have a look at it in the daylight…

very shortly after that a friend stopped by to pick up the car to use while she is in town over the next few days…

I had made tea, but both women had things to do and places to be, so I had to drink the tea all on my own…

during the day my contractor friend was by and painted the new door upstairs purple… it looks amazing… so then I had to stage the room to get a picture for you…

made me giggle a bit… for quite a long period in our life I had red everywhere and it drove George a bit batty… I wonder what he would think now as the purple slowly creeps into the house room by room…

sometimes wearing those big girl pants is kind of fun…

this morning, I helped my contractor move the couch, after having moved all the breakables out of the living room before he arrived…

before the paint job...

I headed off to work around 10:30 and he started to paint the end wall… you guessed it – purple…

when I arrived home about 7:45 this evening, there it was in all its glory.. I just love it… when we picked the paint on Saturday it took all of three minutes for me to make a decision and I was worried a bit yesterday as to whether it was the correct shade of purple… the name is Morpheus, which I hadn’t looked at until after picking it… I do find that the name can affect whether I like a paint colour or not…

I feel as though I am morphing into a new person and when I looked the name up, this is what Wikipedia said:

Morpheus (/ˈmɔrfiəs/ or /ˈmɔrfjuːs/) is a god of dreams who appears in Ovid‘s Metamorphoses. Morpheus has the ability to take any human form and appear in dreams. His true semblance is that of a winged daemon, imagery shared with many of his siblings. after painting the wall, he installed the sliding barn door upstairs in the bedroom… it isn’t painted yet, but it looks wonderful… the two bi-fold doors were both removed and this new door slides on a track and can cover one or the other opening… the only time I close the bedroom door is if the boys are over and I need to change clothes… otherwise it will cover the closet door… already the room looks more spacious…

my son-in-law and I had done quite a bit of work finding the track and runners and then he found an old door at his house that we could use… he was all ready to get working on it when family health issues drew a halt to the project… but now it is up thanks to his planning, and my contractor…

looking forward to the final work to get the door finished and the closet repaired and painted as well…

this morning I got up, put out the cushions in the garden and had a hot tub… it was lovely and the sun was shining… by the time I had searched for my book, the sky was overcast and after a short time we had a big thunderstorm…

water came into the basement again, but I now keep towels on the floor and because of the direction of the rain anticipated the problem… all cleaned up now but it does make me think that I will need to get someone in to look at this, sigh…

waited for quite a while before going out to do some shopping because I wanted to be sure everything stayed dry downstairs…

squirrel jumped from garage to tree, couldn't believe it...

saw a squirrel jump from the corner of the garage to one of the trees along the fence… have never seen that before…

went to a number of stores… BestBuy was one because the wireless mouse on the laptop just stopped working on Friday, and I really dislike using the mouse pad… got me a beautiful white one with some lovely purple on it… working very well…

then I went to the Apple Store looking for a genius because I’ve been having a couple of issues with my iPhone 5… pictures that I send to myself from my phone are all of a sudden embedded in the email and no longer attached… this is quite a pain as I often take pictures for the blog with my iPhone… have a short term solution but no one really seems to know why this happens…

second problem is that I can’t iMessage one of my girls… works fine for everyone else, except her all of a sudden… they couldn’t figure that one out and have sent a request to the engineers to see if they can figure it out…

this evening had barbecued steak for dinner, which doesn’t sound like that big a deal, except that I did the barbecuing… first time since George’s death… it was excellent and I was able to get it going without a problem…
