memories…

a good day… very few rough moments, which was lovely… birthdays have always been special in our family so marking George’s is important…

started the day by taking the last of the antibiotics, yay… been using George’s pill container as I need to take the pills with my breakfast now…

last of the antibiotics...

last pill…

Crystal and I walked over to the Burger Place and picked up burgers and milkshakes for our supper…

moon through the trees...

moon through the trees…

made her hold everything while I took the picture on my phone… met up with all the boys at home and then FaceTimed with the kids in Ottawa… they had picked up burgers and milkshakes at McDonalds… we had apple pie in both places as well…

supper was busy and we shared various favourite memories of Dad/Grandpa… from reading every word of a very long story to the little boys, to always starting a new conversation when someone was trying to hang up or walk out the door, to working with the boys around the house and a love of the garden and ponds…

he would talk to any and every person he came in contact with… and he would know lots about them afterwards… just today I was mentioning how that is one of the most difficult things – not having anyone here to share with…

it was good to all be together, even if it was over the airwaves with the iPad… we continue to talk about him so that we won’t forget how special he was…

all of the kids...

all of the kids, some being naughty…

today’s Advent gift was a bottle of Baileys so I had just a little bit after everyone left… it will be interesting to see what that does to my blood sugar, lol…

what a gift to have met and married my beloved, and spend over forty years together…

CPR…

spent the morning in a refresher first aid course… we’ve done one every couple of years… this is my third…

always seem to do them in early December… just before or after George’s birthday…

the whole conversation around CPR is always difficult and brings me right back to the night he died… but practising what to do is also cathartic…

I keep thinking about the person who called 911 and then stayed with him until the emergency team arrived… did they hold his hand, did they give him CPR…

I miss him so much, and try to remember the good things and not focus on the sadness…

tomorrow he would have turned 66…

the moon was nearly full as I walked home from the grocery store after work… I was too cold to stop and take a picture of it, but took this when I got home…

and noticed that a critter has been running all over the roof of the garage…

maybe one of George’s squirrel friends, lol…

blogging…

yesterday marked my second year on WordPress…

in that time I have written nearly every day, 747 posts to be exact…

more than 150 people follow my blog and the most popular topics include life, her big girl pants, and nature

pretty good considering the day I started I was just going to see what it was about, lol…

my goal had been to share the experiences I had gone through following the passing of my beloved… not sure if I’ve done that…

for the last few weeks, every time I walk by the garden window at night, three of the solar lights twinkle all night long… I’ve decided that George is helping them twinkle:-)…

I’m learning to deal with my new reality and am finally over the poor me stage…

so far the sugar hadn’t been too much of a problem, but I guess the real test will come around Christmas

yesterday an Advent calendar was delivered to my door… it was from my daughter in Ottawa…

IMG_9535.JPG
a carton filled with 24 boxes… such fun to open one each day…

this morning I opened box 1 and discovered striped purple socks and a dragonfly stick-on…

IMG_9536.JPG
wore them when I went for a walk today…

IMG_9537.JPG
at work I wear sandals and don’t usually wear socks in my boots unless I am going to be doing a lot of walking

still thinking about where to put the dragonfly

1000 days…

I have this app called Dreamdays on my phone… it counts up to and down from important dates…

today marks 1000 days since my beloved left this world… in four days it would have been his 66th birthday…

we went to Rona today to pick up a tile and a new faucet for the kitchen as the old one has been dripping for a few weeks…

IMG_9524.JPG
thankfully Jeff was able to replace it for me… don’t even think there was any cursing, lol…

when my chariot arrived, it even included a snow shoveler…

IMG_9523-0.JPG
for most of our years together George did all the shovelling, other than the few years his heart wouldn’t let him…

a thousand days seem like forever and a blink of an eye all at the same time… I’ve missed him every single one of those days…

was up at 5:30 this morning and looked out the window to see a bunny wandering through the back yard…

Friday morning when I was putting out the garbage there was a bunny sitting in the middle of the back lane… spent a few moments watching until it moved into a yard…

IMG_9512.JPG
those are bunny footprints…

it snowed through the night and a bit this morning… trees look stunning

IMG_9513.JPG
the garden is beautiful all covered in the snow

well, the results are in… been diagnosed with diabetes

not exactly how I was imagining spending the next stage of my life…

I guess I should be happy that it hadn’t come on earlier in my life, as many of my elders dealt with the disease…

had been once to the doctor, and was semi-prepared for what I heard yesterday… already been cutting back on sugar, but I hadn’t even thought about having to stick myself with a needle 3 times every day…

IMG_9497.JPG
been having a bit of a pity party but hoping to be over that in a few days…

good news is that I should be able to deal with this by watching my diet and getting more exercise…

a friend is diabetic and is a walking dictionary on the disease… another has a partner with it, and she knows tons as well… my daughter is on Weight Watchers and is sharing food information… so there’s lots of help for me as I move forward, learning as I go…

sad about the chocolate though…

taxis…

been in a number of taxis lately…

continue to wonder how they can fiddle with all the equipment in their vehicles…

most of us aren’t allowed to text, or even pick our phones up while we are driving…

I am nervous when I’m at a stoplight and want to take a picture…

I have been watching them… they are connected to their dispatcher with a screen on the dash and have their hands at this piece of technology very often…

they also have GPS that they are looking at as they drive, which apparently they are allowed…

interesting…
