Diary Day 3

For some reason the time on the ship changed back an hour last night…

Cyndi and I got up very early and went on deck to watch for whales and see the sun rise amongst the mountains… gorgeous… and, we saw a whale… it was quite a ways off the side but she got a head and tail shot… then we went back to bed for a while…

had breakfast, sat in the solarium and got in a line waiting to head out into Juneau for gold panning, a salmon bake and shopping…

got on a little bus that took us out to a creek where we panned for gold… everyone found some… beautiful warm sun-shiny day, which is apparently not normal… then we headed to a salmon bake where we had salmon and baked beans, clam chowder, great hash brown casserole and fabulous lemonade… then to town to shop…

all shopped out and have a few lovely mementos of our visit to Juneau…

back on board for a nap and the dinner at Izumi (sushi), and we’ve finished off the night at a 70s dance party…

arrived just before 11 Courtenay time… both flights went well… the one from Winnipeg was only about two-thirds full and I was the only person in my area… very nice… not so from Calgary… the seats were closer together and the woman sitting beside me needed some of my space as well…

as soon as the kids picked me up we headed out to Goose Spit to get my toes in the ocean…

took pictures of the rocks, the kids and the scenery…

we finished off the day at Locals, a wonderful restaurant where we had a fabulous dinner…

we’ve got all the bags packed, and are heading to bed as we will be getting up very early to drive to Victoria to catch a ferry to Vancouver and get on the cruise ship…

so, finished up at work at 5:10… blasted off for my last physio… she was very pleased and when she did unpleasant things to check on my body, none of them hurt, which is a great sign… I don’t have to go back unless I am bothered during my vacation…

got home and had some dinner and then watched some TV… talked with both girls about the next few weeks…

had decided not to do any planting or even move the plants outside and then I looked at the forecast and there is a frost warning tonight, lol…

went out and wrapped the front planter and put all the hanging baskets into the garage…

have to finish packing and see how much my bag weighs and then have a hot tub…

leaving early tomorrow morning…

apparently I might not have access to wi-fi while on the ship so I may not be posting on my blog every day…  will do my best to stay in touch…

big day today…

picked up the last few items for the trip, although I never did find the Ecco sandals I was looking for…

blasted off from work to go and choose carpet for the basement floor as they will be completing the repairs while I am away… I hope to come home to a fully functional basement… right now there is a fan blowing, a dehumidifier going, and two feel of drywall missing from one wall…

the last bits and pieces of George’s stuff that I haven’t dealt with are piled up in one corner and the furniture is taking up the rest of the space… when I get home I will need to do a sort through and make decisions on what needs to go where…

stopped at Safeway after all the shopping, and then went to the Sushi Train and had dinner…

now that doesn’t sound like a big deal, but that is the first time in my life I have gone into a restaurant and eaten on my own…

felt like a huge step… I’ve been thinking about it for some time and tonight was just the right time…

I had a lovely dinner, and ordered enough to have some for my lunch tomorrow…

Jeff had been by and fixed the flapping siding and moved the planter up to its new home… closer to being ready to go with every minute…

was windy and rainy all day long… didn’t help much with energizing me to get stuff done…

spent a good part of the day in front of the TV, reading and packing a few more things into the suitcase…

went out to the garage and potted up the new planter I bought… it was raining a bit at the time, so I didn’t want to work on it in the front yard… then after it was filled with rocks and soil and plants, I managed to move it slowly to the front and got right to the steps but couldn’t find a way to get it up where I wanted it…

so it is sitting at the bottom of the steps waiting for my son-in-law to come by tomorrow and move it up…

while I was out there I checked the side of the house, because since yesterday afternoon I’ve been hearing noises from outside the bedroom… the first time I heard them I thought something had got into the attic… but as the evening went on I realized that it was likely loose siding… and it was…

then I got a couple of pictures of another new bird visitor I spotted a few days ago… it was so windy that it fell of the top of the bench while I was taking its picture with the new iPhone camera+ app…

ran out with Crystal and the boys this morning to find a few last items for the garden… couldn’t find exactly what I wanted and when we got home it was rainy and cool so we didn’t do any planting after all…

picked up a few items that I still needed for the trip… got a great rain jacket, some bigger sticks for both cameras, a battery for one and a cute little tripod to replace one that George had given me and I passed along to Cyndi…

spent a good portion of the day laying things out to take… tonight I put the majority of them into the suitcase… spent quite a while decided on which suitcase to take, thinking a little one might do, lol… the big one is just about full to bursting…

suitcase is filling up fast...

still have to figure out what I will use for the carry on and how much needs to go in it… let’s see, two cameras, tripod, meds, contacts, yikes, still have quite a bit to do…

don’t know how one minute it was months to wait to go on the cruise, and now I leave in just a few days and don’t really appear to be ready…

getting excited…

technology…

I am quite a fan of technology… today after reading a great article on Pinterest I purchased camera + for my iPhone… have already spent some time with it and look forward to the things it can do…

I quite enjoy Pinterest, and seeing what people I follow are looking at, as well as what others are pinning… it can be just a little addictive, lol…

one of the things I do at work is provide a monthly Tech Tip for my colleagues… it is great fun to search out new little tidbits to share… often I learn them from a colleague… it always amazes me what tricks and shortcuts each of us know and use, and just assume that everyone else knows…

one that I particularly appreciate was demonstrated by a colleague a few months ago… it has to do with Facebook and adding links to a post… the trick makes the post look so much tidier, so I thought I would share it with you…

you write the post, and then add the hyperlink… wait just a few seconds and the hyperlink goes into the post, along with the actual picture and story…

now you can delete the hyperlink and only the picture and story remain… you can see how this tidies up the look of the post…  I do like things to be tidy…

give it a try…

rough day as I was struggling with a very bad headache… haven’t had one like that in many months… was taking notes for two hours and wondered if I was going to make it till the end…

left work around 2:30 and headed out to my physio appointment… was heated up, bent out of shape, pummeled, iced and electrocuted, then sent home…

looking forward to sleep I found a message from ServiceMaster who wanted to come and check out the carpet and basement wall… one fellow arrived, had a look and called some other guys who came and removed a portion of the underpad and set up blowers and a dehumidifier which will run until Tuesday when they will come back and take out two feet of drywall across the entire wall…

looking into the basement...

then I will wait to hear what the cost of doing a complete fix will be…  they won’t do anything until I get home…

finally, after all that I got to have a short nap…

George would have known exactly what to do, sigh… I am missing him like crazy… he would have got me something to eat and drink and tucked me into bed and then dealt with all the craziness in the basement…
