thanksgiving…

got picked up by the kids on their way home from a family dinner last night…

had a sleepover at their house and this morning my daughter, a friend of hers, and I, went to Thermea…

  
it was windy first thing when I woke up…

 trees swaying in the backyard…  

blowing in the front…

pouring as we drove there, but we went anyway… when we came out of the locker room the rain had stopped and there were few people around… wind was a bit strong but we had a great time and had most of the areas to ourselves… even got to sit around one of the fire pits…

lovely start to our Thanksgiving day…

from there we popped over to Ikea to take back a few surplus items from their kitchen reno… I usually try not to go to stores on holidays but this was the only time we could get there… 

picked up a couple of cushion covers and a lovely orchid…

 

reminded me of my beloved who was always bringing orchids home to me… seemed like a great thanksgiving treat…
ended the day with a wonderful turkey dinner…

excited this morning to take a picture of the blooming orchid…

  
spent a bit of time preparing a bag so I would be ready to head out after work for the evening’s soccer game…

picked up from work, drove across town to pick up the boys and dog, and headed back across town for the final game of the soccer series…

luckily, had a big bag of almonds which provided entertainment for the youngest as the game was played…

  
beautiful evening to sit outside and cheer on the nine and ten year olds… heard all about the importance of defence from my guy… did have to giggle as the dads’ were having a bit of trouble giving up being the coaches… fair bit of directives from the sidelines… 

wonderful opportunity to spend some time with my kids and a fun way to start the weekend…

lots of blooms today…

early this morning I got a few shots… this one is the orchid that is reblooming…

  
the first bud is almost open… have had this orchid for at least a couple of years, and it has just been sitting in a corner of the dining room, quietly going about its business…

a picture of blooms from a bouquet that came in today…

 

certainly brighten up the day…

finally tonight took this picture of the beautiful orchid my friend brought me in January after I had lent her my car… today it dropped the last flower…

 

amazingly it has been blooming for five months… going to put it in the corner with the other one, lol…  

flower blossoms sure do make me happy… remind me of my beloved who was always bringing  home orchids for me… my life has been so blessed…

yesterday a parcel arrived at the office with my name on it…

it’s from my daughter in Ottawa… she said I couldn’t open it until my birthday on Saturday… seems fair because I won’t have many presents…

now I’m waiting…

today when I got home there was a cute purple orchid on the table with a note saying Happy Almost Birthday… my Winnipeg daughter had dropped it off sometime during the day…  

and in the mail was a card from another friend… 

beside the card you can just see the edge of the parcel…

I am indeed blessed… even if I do have to wait…

exhausted…

last night I was so tired that I fell asleep and forgot to write a post…

on my way to work in the morning it was a bit foggy but beautiful sun dogs were my company on the drive… my phone was in the back of the car so I never did get a picture of them…

had fun taking a shot of the orchid against the picture on the wall… not exactly what I had I mind, but it was entertaining to try…

moon will be full in a few days…

took this tonight on my way down the stairs…

made one of my favourite comfort foods for dinner… not sure how well it fit into my new eating plan… canned salmon with sliced potatoes in a white sauce… added mushrooms and water chestnuts and used a very small amount of the sauce… usually the potatoes would be pan fried in butter but I used a tiny bit of avocado oil and steamed them to finish… liked the crunch of the water chestnuts a lot…

last night I searched through my closet and found this pink shirt to wear today…

actually the only pink piece of clothing I own… but I dug it out to wear to support the PinkShirtDay initiative to fight bullying… last year I forgot until much later in the day… 

amazing how many people commented on the colour…

when I got home tonight I took a picture of the new lamp… I think I like it in this spot…

more beautiful sunshine coming through the window so I took a few pictures of the light on the orchid…

hard to get a good shot the way the sunbeams were coming through the window…

it is quite astonishing to me how light and sunshine can raise my spirits…

this morning our delivery of tulips arrived… they are part of the Lung Association campaign…

I love flowers and in the depths of winter really enjoy them… just yesterday I had to toss the daffodils I had purchased the week before…

spent time in the living room tonight with my friends and got to admire my gorgeous orchid… it is really stunning…

took this picture of a macadamia nut dark chocolate which was a treat from Costa Rica… first chocolate I’ve had since November… apparently I was so excited I couldn’t hold still, lol… very tasty…

had a wonderful day… got so much done…

my sleepover buddy and I had breakfast at the “A”… we drove because it was minus 45 out there…

then it was home to sort and label the Christmas boxes… emptied two or three and labeled all that remained… great to have the shelves organized…

still didn’t find the sea shells… I can’t believe it…

dropped my helper off at the bus and did a few errands… picked up an extension cord for the car as I will be driving to work for the next few weeks and the temperature isn’t rising anytime soon, lol…

found two pieces of documentation I’ve been looking for, so was happy with that…

moved the orchid to the coffee table and tried to find a spot for the new lamp I bought a few days ago…

been watching the Oscars for what seems like hours, but I can’t tear myself away…

had a wonderful day with a friend who came over and hung 15 framed water lily pictures on the stairway wall… we had a great time…

makes me a bit proud to have my art up on a wall… a bit odd to think of my photos as art, lol…

part way through the process we had a lovely snack/lunch…

happily there was no broken glass… a few close calls when the frames were on the hallway floor, lol…

but we realized that we needed more pictures… I have to find thirteen more photos and we have to pick up more frames…

we have already put in the nails so that piece is done… going to get sticky stuff to make sure the pictures stay square on the wall…

we also got the orchid to sit in the pot better… it was a bit tippy…

after she left I had a good nap… silly me, woke up at 7:15 this morning and didn’t go back to sleep…

it’s very cold outside so I have a yoga jacket on to stay comfy, rather than turning up the heat and being too hot at bedtime… I have always liked it to be cool in the bedroom and have the windows open at night… used to make George crazy…

there’s one good thing about being on my own, no one complains when I leave a window open, lol…

damn big girl pants…
