fresh…

out and about this morning… picked up painting supplies so my daughter can paint the front and back doors… they are purple, but very faded so she is going to freshen them up for me…

  
also picked up some gray trim paint to go around the back door and patio door… will look lovely and fresh when this is done… 

  
right now the paint is peeling horribly…

thrilled today to see a morning glory from the deck…

  
to see the others I had to be in the garden area…

spotted two of the tiny tomatoes starting to turn colour, oh yay!

  
looking forward to eating them soon…

yesterday I purchased some fresh green and yellow beans which we included with our dinner tonight, although only my daughter and I eat them…

also picked up the fixings for steak and lobster dinner today… that was usually our anniversary splurge… amazingly, all of the grandkids like lobster already… don’t think our girls even got to taste it until they were in their teens, lol…

dinner was great and the lobster delicious… lobster is fine for me, but that butter, not so much…

now I am sitting in the garden, with a blanket on, watching a red squirrel do acrobatics to get seeds out of the bird feeder…   

it had been there for ages, but as soon as I went to take the picture it darted away, lol…

been a busy day, and the light is fading… 9:40 and I had to put a light on in the garage to put things in their places…

forty-five years ago today I married the love of my life… we had a wonderful journey…

this is the fourth year that I have been on my own… doesn’t get much easier, but I have spent the day with my daughter and grandsons and focussed on the many memories of fun times…

there was horseback riding… for some of us… one young person decided they weren’t going so I climbed down off my horse and waited with him…

  
miniature golf… for all of us… George had enjoyed playing this course…

  
and go-cart racing… not for me, lol… I did think about the last time we came here when I squeezed into the little second seat and screamed all the way around the course while George laughed as he drove…

  
supper out topped off a great day…

last night I slept under the full (blue) moon on the deck… good thing I did because it looks like it is going to rain tonight…

  
barely any mosquitoes:-)…

last night I spent some time on the deck trying to get a good shot of the full, blue moon…

  
this is one of the few that turned out… also took a few pictures of the light coming through the gate… 

  
set my alarm for 5:45 am which was going to be the height of the full moon… woke up at 5, so went out and got this shot…

  
back to sleep for an hour or so and when I got up, took a few photos of the morning glory...

  
took some with my camera as well, but they turned out blue, not the actual purple of the flower…

spent the day with two of my grandsons and the dog… we talked about grandpa while we were having our breakfast at the “A”…  

later one mowed the lawn and the other started picking up some of the mulch because now we are going to lay down landscape fabric and put the mulch back down… should have done that in the first place, lol…

got a lovely shot of a beautiful dragonfly this afternoon…

rather busy day… up early this morning to get the boxes out for pick-up…

  
ran over to the Mall to have my iPhone checked out… battery is barely making it through the day which isn’t so good for a brand new phone… went to MTS who sent me to the Apple Store… served quickly in both stores, and they offered up a few suggestions which might make a difference… have to back everything up and go back so they can reset it which may also make it better… technology is wonderful when it works…

got home and my son-in-law was here replacing the metal stringers on the deck stairs… he noticed a while ago that they were rusting out…

  
look great and feel much more sturdy…

after lunch we sat in the garden for a few minutes and I noticed this morning glory bloom…

  
been thinking about July of 2010 when I was in hospital… it was supposed to be our vacation so George came to spend time every day while he was off work… he knew how much I love morning glories and every morning before he came, he would go out into the garden and count how many of the flowers were blooming… occasionally he would take a picture for me as well… 

I found this blossom which should open tomorrow…

  
was testing my lounger out when the sky got a bit dark…

  
just got in and it poured for a couple of minutes… after supper I went out to write my blog, but it was kind of chilly… came in and all of a sudden it was pouring…

 
the mandevilla is covered with flowers and buds… looking forward to the morning glory beside it starting to flower as well…

an automated reminder phone call this morning had me digging through my closets looking for things to share… 

sometimes it seems hard to declutter and other times it is easy… today was one of those easy days… filled two boxes and will put them out first thing in the morning…

later I took a walk to the Park to wander through the English Garden and the Leo Mol Garden… it had been overcast and rainy in the morning but the sky cleared up and there was a nice breeze…

the breeze got a bit crazy but eventually I made it to the Gardens…

  
the hydrangeas were beautiful… 

the water lilies looked wonderful with the light shining on them…

 
the rose standards were almost done and I had to stand in front of this one for about five minutes to get a shot… the wind was really blowing, lol… shared a lovely conversation with a woman who was enjoying their perfume… 

 

these lisianthus were absolutely stunning… I really need to plant some in my garden…

up early so I’d be ready when my son-in-law arrived after he got off work… he did exactly what I had done with the pump, but when he did it, it worked, lol… apparently I should have shaken the float…

had an appointment to get my hair purpled… it had come to the point that there was barely any colour left in it… need to get my photo taken for my licence so wanted to have it lovely and bright…

my hairdresser had a little girl in April and I was able to hold her for a few minutes… what a sweetie… 

  
you can also see the new cover on my phone… picture of an orchid at work… came out pretty good…

tonight I made cauliflower rice for supper… it was easy and tasty… might try feeding it to my grandkids one day…

  
strange weather… poured like gangbusters just as my son-in-law left… then was overcast off and on, and humid for the remainder of the day… lovely wind came up which has cooled it down very nicely…

the pond tonight… waterfall is not running, not sure why, but my son-in-law is coming tomorrow morning to see if he can figure it out…

bad start to the day… looked outside first thing to see that the waterfall wasn’t running and the water was very low… ran out to turn the hose on… the gazing ball was in a strange place and the bubbler was at an odd angle…

  
and then I spotted the fish carcasses all over the deck and the bridge…

I think a family of raccoons must have come by after the storm last night and had a sushi buffet…

all of the big fish are gone and I could only count about six small ones still swimming…

looked like a crime scene with fish corpses and plants ripped out of the pond…

miserable job to clean it up… had to use a shovel and disposable gloves to pick everything up, and then hose it down… still fish scales left on the deck, even after spraying it twice…

  
tomorrow I will pick them up by hand…

I am usually thrilled with all creatures that wander through the garden… maybe not so much for ones who destroy the natural setting…

up early and headed to the Gimli area… lots of waves rolling in as we were waiting for the boat to get launched…

  
bit of a sign about the trip along the lake to get to the beach where we met friends…

soaking wet and bounced all the way across… yikes… thought we were going to lose the dog and smallest person a couple of times…

boys tubed while we sat on the beach… a dragonfly sat on my leg for at least a minute…

  
oldest grandson got a bad rope burn on the back of his leg so we had a bit of drama but he is doing much better now…

lunch on the beach and then my daughter and I went out on the tube… what fun:-)…

  
the boys had a wonderful time playing in, on, and around the boat…

  
took the boat back to the launch and got drenched again… daughter laughed most of the way as my face was soaked time and again with spray…  she thought it was hilarious considering how I dislike getting my face wet… 

supper with friends, walk for ice cream and we are heading home after a great day…

  
hoping we beat the storm and don’t get drenched again…

put out the cushions, watered the plants, filled the pond, and then finally sat in the garden…

  
just about then a large bird flew through the garden and landed on the trellis behind the waterfall… the sparrows flew away very quickly… from my bird app I think it was a hawk… that was new, as I’ve never seen one in the garden…

shortly after that the kids picked me up and we went lounge chair shopping…

  
got this one and then a cushion from another store… not sure whether to keep the cushion… 

  
picked up this umbrella for the kids and when they put it up the crank stopped working and we had to take it back, but we got a new one which seems okay…

  
they got a new lounger and cushion and someone is very happy with it…

  
and now we are sitting on their deck swatting mosquitoes…

sleeping over and going to spend the day boating in Gimli… great start to my holidays…

I am just about ready for bed, cause there was no nap today…

had to get out of the car and take a picture of the side of the house this morning…

looks like someone or something ran up the side… kind of artistic…

yesterday there was a note from Hydro saying I needed to read the meter again… they are rather finicky about when you read it, lol… took a picture today and will email it to them tomorrow…

  
hope this works because getting the numbers right seems to be an art…

going in search of a lounger tomorrow…
