well, we really weren’t camping as we went to Rabbit Lake for the Northwestern Regatta…

the eldest grandson turned eighteen today so we were up early and drove for an hour, arriving just in time for his first race…

watched races, visited with people, dropped the younger boys off at a friend’s where we had a lovely visit before returning to the regatta for his next race…

at the end of race day, seven of us went out to celebrate the big birthday…

had a great time on a patio, then said goodbye to the older boys and headed back to the campground…

now we are in bed looking forward to day two of the regatta

been a long day, but we have finally arrived at our campsite… my son-in-law and youngest grandson came early and set the camper and everything up…

what a treat to arrive to all the hard work already done…

it is dark so we haven’t really had a good sense of what the space looks like but tomorrow we will explore…

happy holidays

three great things before I even left the driveway this morning…

a stunning sky… couldn’t really get a picture that showed how orange the sun was…

then as I was headed to the garage I spotted morning glory flowers… the first ones of the year…

while I was searching for more blooms spotted my neighbour and after checking in with him he shared cucumbers and tomatoes with me…

dropped them into the house, took one final picture of the morning glories and headed off to work…

pretty fine way to start the day…

a couple of weeks ago I was scheduled to have lunch with a friend…

this person always arrives early wherever we are going to meet…

usually I email the night before or early the day of, but this time I didn’t…

I made it to the restaurant and my friend wasn’t there… I waited about half an hour, ordered takeout and headed back to the office…

sent an email just wanting to be sure they were okay…

later that evening I received a message that they had just not realized what day it was, lol… something about retirement and not checking calendars… so happy that they were fine…

when I arrived back at the office this morning, after being off for a week, I discovered this lovely package

it was a sorry I missed lunch gift… so not necessary, but what a lovely treat

it is often chilly in the office so this pashmina will be a lovely way to stay warm on those cool days…

and, it fits into my office decorating scheme perfectly;-)…

I truly am blessed…

today I continued with the packing…

my youngest grandson came over for a few hours and we spent time in the hot tub and filled the pond… we also counted down the days till we go camping…

we had Chinese food leftovers and managed a selfie… took both of us to get it, lol… it was lovely because he usually doesn’t want to be in pictures

after he was picked up I went outside and watched two gold finches fly away from the feeder… so I sat outside for half an hour, but they did not return…

relaxing day today as I focused on preparing for the camping trip… as we are leaving on Thursday after work decided to start gathering required items…

did laundry and started packing the hamper basket that I will be taking my stuff in…

the oldest and youngest came for dinner and we had Chinese food… nice to spend time with these two…

going to gather a few more things tonight… then a hot tub and bed…

what a lovely day…

started with an early wake up, a drive across town, a packed up truck with a boat behind it… I love the boat…

then we drove to Falcon Lake, put the boat into the water and went fishing… my son-in-law caught a fish right away… then we waited patiently for the fish and they never came… quite a while later the sky clouded over and we headed in to the dock…

put the boat back on the trailer and just got the cover on it when it started to spit… had to run to the store for a lock and it poured all the way there and back… then it stopped for about two minutes… just long enough to get the lock on…

afterwards we went out for lunch, drove around to check out our campsite for next week, and headed home…

the closer we got to the city the clearer the sky became;-)… now it is pouring here, lol…

out into the garden this morning…

watered all the planters and baskets using water from the new water barrel

watering by hand works much better than using the hose as I am able to see exactly how much each plant is getting…

also topped up the pond… seems like it needs filling about every third day…

this basket is doing the best… some of the others are a bit sad… the weather has been odd with boiling hot days and then really cool ones…

we won’t talk about the inconsistent watering, lol…

one of the great things about going to Kenora is getting french fries at ye olde Chip Truck…

in the midst of the regatta there was a break so we drove into town to go to Canadian Tire…

they didn’t have what we wanted, but they did have one of the chip trucks…

neither of us was really hungry but we got a small order…

we had been tasked with bringing back a Subway sandwich for the rower

when we found the store I laughed because it was right next to the original Chip Truck…

a bit sad but we for sure didn’t have any room for more…

good news is we are going back next weekend and I am going to be sure to get more… when I’m hungry, lol…

been thinking of forests a lot lately…

after being in Cathedral Grove, BC, it has felt like we don’t really have many forests around here…

but when I walk through the forest in the Park I remember how special and rejuvenating trees are… it always seems extra peaceful and other sounds are blocked out…

took this shot looking up through the tree in the Leo Mol Garden… can never remember what the name of this particular tree is, although it is one of my favourites…

this photo is from July 2011 in Cathedral Grove…

we had a memorable time while visiting Courtenay and surrounds… it was a very special time and it was our last anniversary…
