basil, big girl pants, Chamberlyn's, food, lunch, pizza, yum
great food today…
met a good friend for lunch at Chamberlyn’s in Winnipeg Square and had Crepes St. Jacques…
very tasty, even with the tomato in it, lol…
just saw a chef on tv the other day saying just try it the way we made it for heaven’s sake… so that’s what I did… reminded me of The Garden Creperie which was one of my favourite restaurants a long time ago…
had a wonderful visit too, catching up on each other’s lives and events…
tonight decided to use up the last few left-over whole wheat tortillas from Sunday’s tacos for my supper…
so, picked basil, cut up Brie and some tomatoes, and put the “pizzas” on the pizza stone in the oven…
when I took them out, added a little drizzle of olive oil, salt and pepper and then gobbled them up…
yum… finished my dinner with a handful of peas which I shelled and ate one at a time…
been doing a much better job of using up everything in the fridge and pantry and having less go bad and into the garbage…
gosh darn those big girl pants, lol…

had a wonderful experience at lunchtime today…
a young woman I recently met gave me a henna tattoo…
we had talked about it and I decided on a dragonfly… she did some research and we picked today at noon to get the job done…
she is clearly an artist… filled with talent… so steady with her hands…
she reminded me of George… he was always meticulous when working on a project and was very precise and his hands were always steady…
he would have been impressed with her skill…
had to let it dry for the afternoon and evening… then I picked off the ink and rubbed oil on the tattoo…
here’s a picture, but I must say it is hard to take pictures of your own arm…
it will be interesting to see how long it lasts…
got dropped off and had a nice walk home… the green of the grass and trees, and blue of the sky, looked very nice…

beautiful day… the sun was shining, yay…
those are shadows on the wall and door… very exciting after the last week of hazy skies when everyone was getting down and feeling bad…
as I was driving to work the sun was in my eyes and I had to put down the visor… amazing how wonderful it felt, lol…
this evening I am at a soccer game… it is a bit cool but the sun is shining and everyone is in a great humour…
great shot of the action, with the light shining on their backs…
just a glorious evening…
life is wonderful and I am lucky to be able to enjoy these special moments…

this morning I spent time tidying up the house…
so it would be ready for the cleaning person…
always made me giggle when I used to hear from friends about how they were cleaning up before their cleaner arrived…
seems kind of silly to be cleaning for the cleaner…
of course now I understand…
everything needs to be in its place so the cleaner isn’t spending their time tidying when they should be cleaning…
amazing what you learn with age…
took this picture on my way out the door this morning… after all the tidying was done, lol…

quite the day… got this shot of the wasps building a nest on my deck…
was able to get really close as they weren’t moving much… cool this morning after yesterday’s heat and humidity…
walked to the grocery store to get hamburger for tonight’s dinner with the kids and as I was walking up the street to the house reached for my phone to take a picture of the haze and couldn’t find it…
kind of freaked out thinking I might have dropped it in the store… rushed into the house and tried phoning it before jumping into the car and racing back to the store… and there it was, singing in my bag, just not in its usual place… hiding under my OneTouch Mini…
took a few minutes to calm down, lol… I am rather meticulous about putting things away in the same place in whatever bag I have so this doesn’t happen often… thank goodness…
my daughter and I went out to get some fresh veggies and stopped and picked up some groceries for their family…
when we were home a bit later I mentioned how my phone was running out of charge much more quickly these days…
she had a look at it and then checked to see when my contract was up… at 4:45 she discovered that it was already up and at 5:00 we were at the phone store in the mall:-)…
got an iPhone 6… didn’t take too long and it is saving me $5 or so a month…
because I don’t use iCloud to back my phone up, they weren’t able to set it up for me…
had to check out all the phone stores to get a case… eventually got two…
this one and a clear one which I will put one of my photos in…
came home and my daughter started backing it up… but it took longer than they were here for, so she told me what to do when it finished…
took some great pictures with it but, in the very long and convoluted process to get it set up, had to delete them all…
but the sun was really red as it was going down tonight, lol…
well, it is almost set up, sigh… I am on hold with MTS because I can’t remember that password… looks like everything else is good to go…
who knew it would take minutes to buy and then hours to set up, lol…
technology at its finest…
04 Saturday Jul 2015
finally took the time this morning to hook up the splitter for the garden hose… now I can either run water into the regular hose, or into the hose that goes underground to the pond… will make it much easier to fill it when it is low… which, sadly, is still happening on a regular basis, but at least the waterfall is beautiful, lol…
was quite easy to do, but did make me feel that I was wearing my big girl pants…
later the kids came over and we left my grandson to work on the front flower bed and went to a couple of garden centres to see what they might have…
had a lot of fun…
got two amazing baskets which are adding to the beauty of the pergola by the pond…
and a number of other plants… happily was able to get a couple of morning glories as, of the two packages of seeds I planted, about three have come up and they are very small… these ones are my favourite blue and I can hardly wait until they start blooming…
also picked up three parsley plants… monarch caterpillars love parsley and my grandson spotted a couple on the parsley plant at their house… hope I get some too…
while they were here, the little boys cut some roses for me… they are from the plants that my dear friend and neighbour Ellen gave me when she moved…
I do love the garden and really appreciate having my grandson come and help me on a regular basis…
just got everything planted when the sky clouded over and thunder, lightening and rain came down… hope that everything survives the downpour…

big girl pants, camping, deck, Lyric, mosquitoes, stars, waterfall
been waiting for a nice evening to go camping…
on the deck…
tonight is the night… might not see any stars as it is still hazy, but you never know…
only concern is the mosquitoes… I do have a great comforter that can go over my head if necessary…
fun little adventure… I’ve been needing something special and am looking forward to going to sleep to the sound of the waterfall…
although there is a concert in the Park at the Lyric so I might be going to sleep to the sounds of Streetheart, lol…
we shall see…
was thinking back to our many camping experiences… we used heavy canvas tents, light nylon tents, a pop up trailer, and sometimes hotels… great fun over the years… enjoyed Birds Hill, Hecla, Falcon Lake, Rushing River and Sioux Narrows…
looking forward to spending a few days camping with the kids this summer…
but I do plan to bring my air bed:-)…

big girl pants, crows, decoration, garden, goldfinches, hazy, moments, sun
getting a bit tired of the hazy sky we have had for the last week or so… this morning I decided I’d taken enough pictures of the morning sun, until I spotted the crows on the wire… rare to see them in this area of the neighbourhood…
fires are burning to the west of us which is causing the constant haze…
as I was preparing my supper tonight, looked out the patio doors and spotted this goldfinch sitting in the cedars, like a Christmas decoration…
a few minutes later, when I was sitting outside, two of the male goldfinches chased one another all through the cedars nattering at the top of their lungs… for a while I was thinking we had a dad, mom and son, which might be true, but there is also another male and they don’t like sharing a feeder…
luckily there are three feeders in the garden so they don’t have to fight over the seed…
so happy to have the time to spend outdoors and enjoy these moments…
