this morning there was a light dusting of snow on the ground… made me take this picture of one of the cute cushions I purchased this year…

IMG_0628
throughout the day whenever I looked outside it was snowing

when it was time to leave the office there was lots of snow to shovel off the car… the temperature was quite warm and the roads were very sloppy

we stopped at the grocery store and picked up a few staples which was great because I hadn’t shopped on the weekend and had run out of veggies…

it is beautiful out… the world is white… it isn’t snowing right now but there is supposed to be more overnight…

only yesterday we had been talking about the amazing quiet after a snowfall… looking forward to that quiet when I get up in the morning…

what a wonderful re-energizing evening with my ReImagining friends…

IMG_0617
had chicken pot pie from Costco and it was delicious… with broccoli salad and Greek salad… topped it off with a small piece of lovely light cheesecake for dessert…

IMG_0620
then a great conversation about the goodness in the depths of the darkness of winter…

IMG_0618
exhausted when I got there, but filled with peace and contentment when I left…

once home had a lovely hot tub to top off the evening…

fabulous way to start the week…

spent a good portion of the morning looking through photos from six years ago when my youngest grandson was born…

it was bittersweet, because right at that time I was going through a very difficult situation with work…

that day we spent a number of hours waiting at the hospital before things began to move along…

I remember George coming right from the end of his shift and just being in time to hold the baby after he was born…

and here we are six years later and celebrating this special day…

IMG_0595
life is very different…
new job I’ve been working at for over five years…
a widow for nearly three years…
cancer survivor…
living with diabetes…

every day I am reminded how important it is to enjoy every moment because we have no idea what tomorrow might bring…

this morning I put a few extra layers on and walked over to the “A” to meet a friend for breakfast

they have a great inexpensive breakfast special which George and I would often have on the weekend… I’d walk and he would meet me there after driving the car over… he had trouble walking so it usually worked well… we’d often take a drive after breakfast… sometimes when it was nice out and he was feeling good we would walk over together….

whenever we walked anywhere we always held hands… when the girls were younger they thought it was embarrassing, but as they got older they thought it was cute, lol…

my usual breakfast is softly poached eggs, which I have on a piece of the rye toast, and bacon… of course these days I shouldn’t have the bacon but it was a bit of a treat this morning… final treat was half a slice of remaining toast with a tiny bit of strawberry jam…

IMG_0586
sitting there waiting for my friend reminded me of the day I had breakfast there all by myself… it was only the second time in my life that I ate on my own in a restaurant… even though I felt like everyone was watching me it also felt comfortable because we had been there so many times…

IMG_0587
when I walked through the doors at the hotel I had to take a picture of the worn handle… it makes me think of all the people who have opened the door over the years… that seems comfortable too…

woke up to a bit of snow this morning…

IMG_0567
it was fairly dark when I took this picture first thing…

cold out, but not horrible… we were surprised at how fast many drivers were going… apparently driving like a maniac was a Friday morning style…

got to spend time with my grandson when he came to shovel… tonight we had chicken wings and kale and Brussel sprout salad for dinner… I ate nine and he had twenty one, lol…

after dinner he worked on homework while I had a little nap on the couch…

IMG_0568
just before he was picked up he went out and shovelled the sidewalk again because it has snowed while we were having our dinner…

recently someone was talking about how their parent was driving them crazy… made me think of the wonderful last months I spent with my mother as she was dying of esophageal cancer… it was a special time and I was able to savour each of the good, bad and unforgettable moments…

often when I hear people who are struggling with aging parents I think about the days to come when their loved one will be gone and they will be wishing they could hear the complaining or whatever it is that is making them crazy now, lol…

was chatting with someone who was a bit ticked at their partner… I could only think about how I would be so happy to have George here to get ticked at…

I do remember when he would make me a bit grumpy… part of being a couple I think…

it is exactly two years and eleven months today since my life changed forever…

I miss my beloved

the moon tonight…

I’ve talked about how much I need flowers in January and February… they make me feel good…

here are some shots I have taken over the last couple of days…

pink rose...

pink rose…

this rose replaced one that drooped over last week… had to take a few pics because it had tiny droplets of water on it…

orange rose...

orange rose…

this rose is a stunning orange and was for a colleague’s birthday… another beauty…

mum and hydrangea...

mum and hydrangea…

this mum and hydrangea are part of a bouquet…

sadly, my hydrangeas are finally on their last legs… I have enjoyed them every day…

today I ran across the street to have a few batteries replaced… one was for the garage door opener and the second was for my camera remote control…

happy about the remote for the camera as it was getting difficult to take a picture without pointing the remote straight at the camera… fairly easy to see I was using it, lol…

the camera does have a timer on it but I haven’t used it much…

while I was there I spotted a cute watch and decided it was just what I needed… and, it was on sale… amazingly, it is purple

IMG_0542
thankfully the owner was able to set it for me… it did cause him a bit of trouble as the watch was feeling a bit nostalgic for the 24 hour clock…

checked the time tonight and at six there was still light outside… this is very exciting…

for a while now people have been commenting on how good all my meals are…

I am watching everything that goes into my mouth and eating lots of veggies…

giving up sugar hasn’t been that difficult… even chocolate hasn’t been a problem, so far…

the main time I miss sugar is in my tea… I tried a teaspoon of honey, but it didn’t really seem to sweeten the tea so I decided it wasn’t worth it…

I still miss chips, but am having a few of them every now and then…

working at finding new ways to eat the foods I can still have and to be sure to think ahead to the next day so I can have healthy meals… not something you can necessarily pull off at the last minute, lol…

tonight I made a Cornish hen and avocado sandwich on flax bread… added a bit of the cranberry jelly I made for Christmas… it was delicious…

IMG_0526

I have an appointment with a dietician in a few weeks and am looking for clarity around what to eat with what and if I am clear on the things I can’t have…

glad that I haven’t had this meeting yet as I think I have a better understanding of the things I want to review with her…

this morning the sunlight was streaming through the window onto the new pictures on the wall…

IMG_0516
later in the day I basked in the sunshine in the living room…

IMG_0517
the moon will be full tomorrow and tonight when I was in the hot tub, I noticed a circle around it… not sure I’ve seen this before…

did a little research and discovered it is a lunar halo and isn’t that uncommon…

it can be a harbinger of bad weather…

glad I got to enjoy the wonderful sunshine, lol…
