last weekend my grandson added seed to the bird feeders…
as I was waiting for my ride this morning I got a few shots of a squirrel having a snack…

even saw a few birds at the feeders in the backyard…

felt like I was wearing those big girl pants all day long…
this morning I went out into the backyard and shovelled the windrow outside the gate so that I could get the garbage and recycling bins into the back lane…
it has been weeks since I’ve taken it out…
put two bags beside it… not sure if they will take those or not…

I decided on pickerel for my supper… instead of the deep fried French fries that my beloved would make, and which were amazing, I baked them in the oven… a recipe from my grandmother… fish and chips was one of the regular suppers that he would make, particularly on swimming nights… makes me think that I need to get back to aquasize…

tasty…

been a quiet weekend which was exactly what I needed as I move into a very full week…
yesterday the kids dropped by in the afternoon and did a few little jobs around the house… I think they actually got the furnace fixed… reamed out the pipe again and also melted any ice which may have been in it…
I’ve put away most of the Christmas decorations over the last few days except for the snowflake wreath on the front door…
it is just too pretty to take down…
also included this picture of the sand dollar wreath that just got rehung at the front door… it had a couple of broken pieces and while she was here my daughter repaired it and we put it back up…
going to have one of my decorator friends make a bigger purple bow to finish it off, lol…
the backyard is looking very lovely with the snow sculptures that the wind has made…
the stone for the waterfall has never been this covered up… there is a lot of snow out there…
took this shot a few days ago of the steps between the upper deck and the back door…
they are completely covered in snow…
doing laundry this morning, I was thinking of my mom who loved laundry… and could get any stain out… sadly, I did not inherit that love, or ability, lol…
cooked a few meals, tidied and relaxed…
happy for the down time…

this morning I was closing the curtains in the dining room and caught sight of a swallowtail on one of the hostas…
so pretty, but I didn’t move fast enough to get a picture…
part way through the morning my daughter texted me to see if I could FaceTime with her… very unusual for her to want to do that when I am at work, but I said okay…
she wanted to show me the Monarch that was just emerging from its chrysalis… she knows how I love them… a neighbour of hers had brought them a twig with some chrysalides on it so the family could watch the process…
around noon she sent me a picture of them letting it go in the backyard…
it reminded me of the August that I was on vacation and was able to document the caterpillars growing, turning into the chrysalides, and then emerging as butterflies…
I made a wonderful PowerPoint of the experience and keep thinking I should make it into a picture book…
we didn’t see many butterflies last week at the Shirley Richardson Butterfly Garden, but did get a picture of this little one…

can you believe what you can see in this picture…
it is the top of the slate waterfall rock… and it has been completely covered in snow for weeks…
even though it has been a bit cold out, the sun is warm, even hot, when it shines…
every day I can see that the snow has melted in the backyard… of course, there is a lot of it that still needs to melt, lol…
looking at the picture you can see that all the snow on the rail of the deck is gone already… yay…
every time I look at the crocus I imagine the time when I’ll be able to walk outside and see spring flowers blooming…
