had planned to go and pick up some mulch at Home Depot today but it has been rainy and windy all day so I decided to stay home…

lots of TV and a bit of reading…

watered all the plants in the dining room and made sure they were doing well as they wait for warm weather to arrive so they can get into the garden…

  
the ground is covered with elm seeds as they have been blowing off the trees all day long… with all this rain, will  have lots of weeds to pull out of the garden, lol…

bit tense for the last hour or so, as the wind has really picked up… around 60 km per hour…

looked out and saw my swing blown over…

  
it is very heavy so I was shocked to see it up against the rain barrel…

just hoping the elm tree next door remains standing… a few years ago a whole section of it came down between the two houses…

might be a long night… not sure when the snow is going to start… crazy weather…

wish George was here tonight…

a while ago I was weeding in the garden but couldn’t tell if this one plant was a weed… decided to leave it for a bit and see how it grew…

well, today I figured out that it was a weed, fast growing and with deep roots… deeper than dandelions… couldn’t get one out no matter what I did… 

spent some time reading in between the weeding… day turned out to be lovely… put my new gazing ball into the pond… will see how it does there…

  
the fish are quite skittish… hiding under the bridge most of the time and rushing back there if they are elsewhere and hear any noises… even a car driving down the lane… odd but we will see what happens as the weather warms up and they get used to the space…

  
thankfully the kids came by for supper and mowed the grass, whipper snipped and vacuumed some of the garden… and pulled out that weed…  looks great out there…

we ran out to Home Depot and I found some white wooly thyme which I hope to plant tomorrow if the weather holds…

  
best thing today was seeing a goldfinch fly through the garden in the afternoon… made sure to fill all the feeders so maybe next time it will stop for a snack…

yesterday I received a lovely Mother’s Day card in the mail…

  
lovely peaceFULL card… my daughter has used a peace sign as part of her signature since she was a teenager so this card holds lots of meaning for me…

had a miserable headache for a good part of the day yesterday, but it was gone when I woke up this morning…

made sure to water all the plants that we brought home from the greenhouses… they are looking good as they await their transfer into the garden… can hardly wait for the weather to warm up so that they can get out there… the garden is my refuge and I am eager to spend time in it…

 

stopped in for a haircut and then a few groceries on my way home from work tonight… this morning I had to search for something for breakfast as I had run out of early morning foods, lol… picked up a few kinds of cereal, yogurt and fresh veggies… for many years I didn’t eat breakfast and now I try to make sure that there are easy things to eat so that I can stay on track…

I think that knowing I am sticking to my diabetes plan makes me feel good about life in general…

was so happy to get the fish moved outside on Sunday…

 
partly because they are very happy when they are out there… and partly because the pond is much more alive when I am sitting by the edge of it… and I love watching them…

but in the morning I am a bit lonely because there are no friends swimming around and keeping me company… last thing in the evening I would feed them before heading to bed…

has been very quiet as the tank is empty and the rather noisy pump is turned off… 

  
made sure to water all the plants and flowers tonight as they wait their opportunity to move into the garden…

maybe tomorrow night I will plant the dahlia tubers in a couple of pots and get them started in the house… I love dahlias and am excited to see them blooming throughout the summer…

also picked up a new gazing ball, that glows in the dark, when we were at Shelmerdine on Sunday… need to get it outside soon…

spent a good part of the day outside in the garden…

sun shone for the majority of the time and I got some weeding done and put a few plants back into the pond…

  
lots of time thinking about the hours that my beloved put in weeding and maintaining the garden… still amazes me how much I miss him…

between weeding, cause I take lots of breaks, I finished a book I started last weekend… got a few great shots on my camera of a white-throated sparrow as it came to the pond for a drink…

mid afternoon I went in for a nap and the sky looked a bit threatening while big winds tried to knock things over…

  
no rain, and then it cleared up again…

now as I sit on the deck writing this, the sky is very ominous looking but there is no longer much breeze…

  
just over the garage you can see the neighbour’s apricot tree blooming… I’ve been smelling it off and on all day…

I can also smell the barbecue next door as the next door neighbour prepares dinner…

another wonderful day… what a blessing to have this time…

busy day… up fairly early because the birds were singing away before dawn… had a few tough moments missing my beloved… amazing how those moments just materialize and you have to wait them out…

went to Dollarama looking for a small drinking glass but they didn’t have any… I did find a cute tray… looks a bit like the dining room chairs, lol…  on to the grocery store where I loaded up on veggies and some tulips jumped into my cart…  grocery shopping is getting more expensive, but I have tons of healthy food for the next week or so… once everything was put away, had a nap and lunch… 

sat in the garden reading for a few hours and then the kids arrived for dinner… steak and lobster with baked potato, mushrooms. asparagus and Caesar salad… yummy… 

doorbell rang and a fellow was wanting to do some yard work to raise money for his hockey playing son…  while we finished cleaning up the kitchen, he and his family cleaned out the front flower bed and raked the front yard…

ran out to take a picture of the finished product and caught the mallards, who live in our creek, as they flew over…  excellent day…

birdsong and squirrel chatter filled the morning in the garden…

energized by the lovely weather, I worked in the garden and trimmed back the plants beside the pond… so excited to see the new growth starting in most of them… careful not to pull out things that I wasn’t sure about and there were two or three of them…

working in the garden always makes me think of George and today was no exception…

not only was I missing his hard work in the garden, I miss having him to talk to… he would have been excited by the duck flying over and he certainly would have been interested in the squirrel sitting on the garbage can right below the hole they’ve dug in the shed wall… he’d have been over there covering it with a scrap of metal and digging through the shed to find and destroy the nest, lol…

  
put out all the cushions and read a magazine… 
emailed my pond guy to see when they will be coming by to get the pump in and sort out the leaking problem…
the afternoon was a bit more noisy as my neighbours’ were building a planter box by their garage… circular saws, drills and hammers are also signs of better weather, lol…
looking forward to more wonderful days in this little piece of heaven…

been busy since I got up today…

started out with a lovely hot tub and watched geese fly right over me…

  

added pictures to the new frame and finally got it set up in the living room… still thinking I might want the 14″ one instead of this 10″ one so I haven’t hung it on the wall just yet…

then it was a cab downtown to meet my daughter and spend two hours at the Home and Garden show… might just have found someone to help me in the garden… also spoke with my pond guy and we have a plan to get it all finished as soon as they can work outside…

  

then we headed to Silver City to meet up with the little guys to see Home… ate half a bag of popcorn… can’t help myself where popcorn is involved…

stopped at Safeway to pick up a few ingredients for our supper and headed home to get it made as my son-in-law had to get to work…

cleaned up from supper and got the ingredients ready for tomorrow evening’s gathering… need to be ready as I will be working late…

luckily I am going in a bit later and have made a lunch date with my grandson who is on spring break…

might sleep in a bit in the morning because I am just a little tired, lol…

beautiful day… up fairly early and spent some time going through a closet and deciding what to keep and what could go… have already started another pass me over box… finding I have much more energy… not sure if that is the sunshine or my body recovering from the sugar overload it was dealing with…

warm enough to be able to use the outside tap to top up the hot tub… 

overcast for most of the day, but late this afternoon the sun came out and melted more snow…



this is the last little bit left in the front yard… hoping that next weekend we can do some raking…



chair is on the deck and there is no snow left on it… wasn’t warm enough to sit out but maybe one night this week after work it will be:-)… the ice is gone from the pond and there are only a few places where there is still snow…

while I was filling the hot tub I also filled up one of the bird feeders… the squirrel had gotten into the  bag of sunflowers and eaten quite a bit… lots of shells…

starting to think about the work needed to clean up the garden and where I am going to find some gardening help this year… I would really like to hire someone to help me so that it looks good all season long…

walked from the grocery store after I got a haircut…

beautiful evening… didn’t wear my gloves tonight or last night when I walked home…

got a lovely shot of this tree… thinking it will be filled with buds before too long…



the crows have been squawking a lot… caught this one in one of the trees down the street…



also heard the water swirling into the drains as I came to street corners… there were rivers of running water everywhere I went…



last picture I took was of the garden… the snow is vanishing more and more each day…

before we know it the pond will be ready for the fish…
