wow, that was quite the storm…

it was excessively hot today and when we had lunch I only stayed out for a while because of the heat…

went shopping with my daughter after work to pick up the groceries for our camping trip…


the most I’ve spent on groceries in a very long time, maybe ever… my, that girl certainly has her daddy’s skill in packing as she loaded up the cart and then filled the boxes perfectly… George was an amazing packer…

then we raced home, trying to beat the black sky that was following us…


just as she finished repacking a box the thunder, lightning and raindrops started…


everything went dark and then the wind blew like crazy, and the rain poured down… about that time the power went off… crashes of thunder and lightning were wild…


now it is quiet except for the sound of fire trucks and the odd leftover bit of thunder…

always amazing how quiet the house/neighbourhood is when the power is off…

hope everyone is safe…

started off the day listening to a lovely song that a friend had posted on Facebook… it was so nice…

then I headed out to do a bit of shopping… took a shot of the animal tracks in the backyard on my way…

  
went to pick up the pro-activ margarine I’m using and a few potatoes for tomorrow’s dinner..

had a bit of fun and came home with these…

  

three pairs of pants, three tops and a pair of shorts… most will be great for New York I think…

emptied, cleaned and refilled the hot tub… going to try a new process that is more natural and uses less chemicals…

  
takes quite a long time to empty, but a short time to fill… I had to take out a few bucketfuls before I could turn it on, lol… that’s never happened before…

for supper I made chicken and dumplings made with whole wheat flour… decided to divide the recipe in half, which I did for the dry ingredients… but then I used the liquid measurement for the whole recipe… came out a little interesting… and very light, lol…

  

not quite the usual colour and the pot looks disgusting as it was full and some of the dumpling overflowed down the sides… maybe I need to write the proportions down right in the recipe book…

enjoyed the day…

the moon last night was spectacular… every time I went past a window I would take a few minutes to admire it… decided to just enjoy it and not even try to take any pictures…

trees were lovely this morning… lots of hoarfrost… was happy to look at them every chance I had on the drive in to work…

left early and had a lovely time shopping at Polo Park… eventually picked a pair of jeans and dropped them off to be hemmed… can’t ever find any pants that don’t have to be taken up…

I mentioned it to the woman who was helping me at Cleo and she gave me a 10% off card for Stitches for the hemming…

stopped at the Peoples Jewellers store to have my wedding band cleaned and had a lovely browse through their rings… saw a pretty amethyst one… my ring is getting loose and I wonder what I will do when it is too big to stay on my finger… should I have it sized or stop wearing it… this will be a big decision…

really wanted to get a pretzel while I was in the mall, but I kept walking… was hard though…

as I left I realized that I had enjoyed my shopping time… all on my own…

those big girl pants fit better more and more often…

after all that grocery shopping on Sunday I’ve had lots of choice as I prepare for each day’s meals…

during the week I usually make a smoothie for breakfast… it is easy and quick and I can spend a few minutes checking my phone before the day gets crazy… 

  
today it was spinach, black currants, banana, Greek yogurt and almond milk… doesn’t look great but was very tasty…

for lunch I had half of a smoked goldeye with the zucchini and basil soup I made last night, along with radishes, peppers and celery…

  
healthy and delicious…

for supper I thawed some shrimp and added asparagus and mashed cauliflower… 

  
as I was crushing the garlic, the press broke… had to toss it and will need to get a new one… luckily was able to pick the bits of metal out of the shrimp…

  
finished the meal off with two small Guylian chocolates…

feel happy when I’ve eaten three good meals in the day…

had an excellent sleep last night… been waking up between four and five and then not getting back to sleep… this has gone on for over a week… so, waking at just after seven was wonderful…

my daughter came by shortly after that and we went out for some shopping and breakfast…

her first time driving Shadow… here’s a shot just before leaving…

  
apparently she has never named a car… how odd…

although I am done shopping for Christmas, I was able to find a few additional gifts, lol… maybe I shouldn’t be leaving the house…

picked up a few fish for the tank… the young woman who helped me went out of her way to pick pretty ones…

  
you can see one of the bigger fish under the rock to the right… the new ones are very small, but they will grow and already seem comfy in the space… 

  
this is a close-up of the newbies… they have very nice colouring…

one other thing I got for me was a cute tree from Rona, and a wreath for the front door which I had been eyeing and couldn’t leave behind…

boys slept in until eight this morning… then happily watched cartoons on tv until their mom arrived about 8:30…

we went out for breakfast… second day in a row for me, lol… today it was Perkins for eggs Benedict… the 55 plus portion for me, which is just the right amount…

more shopping and found these adorable battery powered salt and pepper mills… had to bring them home… they are so cute…

  
now I have to figure out where to put them because they are too tall to fit in the cabinet where the old ones were, lol… but I can get rid of the older ones…

for our supper tonight we had tacos… only the little boys and their daddy came, but everyone loved them and had at least three each…

  
I used a ground vegan product instead of meat… very tasty and easier than cooking hamburger… no one even noticed the difference… we also had some refried beans, which we adults enjoyed… the boys don’t like beans of any kind…

I love feeding them tacos because they always eat well and there aren’t any complaints… there is lots of lettuce, tomatoes, green onions, avocado and sour cream to go with the soft and hard tacos that they like…

tonight they had milk with their supper… I usually offer juice boxes because I don’t think of drinking milk as I really dislike it, but they think of it as a treat, ugh…

another of their favourites is Subway sandwiches… they would choose that over burgers nearly any day… 

wonderful that they enjoy healthy foods…

out for breakfast and did a bit of shopping with my daughter…

had a nap and watched some figure skating and skiing on tv…

ordered supper in with the kids and saw the Snowbirds out the front window… they were here as part of the Grey Cup celebration I think…

  
watched my grandson find all the purple rocks in the coffee table… “there are a lot Grandma”…

  
he told me all about the birthday party he had been at this afternoon where they got to hold frogs and lizards and snakes… got the bed ready and our project done…

  
hardest part was getting the cardboard off the chocolate covered raisin container…

we worked very well together and had fun counting and talking about nice things we could do for others during Advent…

  
project complete and one of us is in bed watching tv… 

not me this time as I am waiting for his brother to arrive from a different birthday party…

what a wonderful afternoon and evening…

left work at 2:30 as I’d put in a couple of extra hours since yesterday…

  
had a bit of fun at the mall… got some fancy tea, fancy soap, fancy underwear and a pair of fancy shorts (or culottes)…

got home and booked a flight to Ottawa… sat out in the garden for a short time and then headed out for a BS birthday dinner in a convertible…

  
enjoyed a delicious dinner, lots of laughs and good conversation… two hours flew by…

  
fabulous group of women… we have been through a lifetime together… 

I couldn’t have better friends…

the garage roof looked like diamond studded waffles this morning…



hmmmm, maybe I am focusing a bit too much on food, lol… it was shiny and I do love the glittery look…

shortly after that, the sun came streaming into the main floor TV room… caught a rainbow in the mirror…



headed out for a shopping expedition with a friend… my clothes are hanging off me and even the pants purchased a month ago are too big now…

was out for five hours, went to five stores… found lots of things to try on and came home with bags full of lovely items… a few of them were a bit outside of my comfort zone:-)…



well, I think I am good for clothes for the next while… 

looked out the window to see the snow in the pond was nearly gone, just a bit of ice left…

amazing day… sunshine, warmth, great shopping, lovely lunch…

and lots of shiny objects…

in my circle, shiny objects refer to the things that grab our attention when we are doing something else… things that take away our attention from what we are focussed on…
