I love my tea in the morning… there isn’t time on weekdays to make it at home, so I have tea at the office…

on weekend mornings the first thing I do is fill my kettle to make a pot…

every time I take it out of the cupboard and fill it with water I think abut my dear friend Dobby who bought it for me after my hysterectomy in 2012… I wasn’t able to lift anything for many weeks afterward and my usual kettle was twice as heavy…

she stayed and looked after me for a week and fed me, entertained me and reorganized my freezer while she was here…

it made all the difference to my recovery as I was still struggling with pain and couldn’t even go up the stairs… she made lovely bits of food to encourage me to eat and helped me get outside to sit and enjoy the sun and fresh air…

so every time I see the kettle I think of her wonderful care…

and now I also remember fun with family…

this summer I went camping with my kids for a few weeks and I took along the kettle… it became a lifesaver… the first site we were at didn’t have electricity so I’d go to an empty site early in the morning so I could make a thermos of tea… then I realized that if I just put the hot water in the thermos there would be water for the tea I wanted and the coffee the kids like, but needed quite a bit later, lol… it also came in handy to heat up water for dishes…

at our second location we had two sites, one with electricity and one without… we’d put the kettle on the table by the power to heat for tea, coffee, hot chocolate and dish water and would run back and forth to get it for whatever we were working on… lots of fun…

this morning I had a raspberry smoothie with my tea…

great memories…

big girl pants, break, Carbone Coal Fired Pizza, dinner, Gas, Grey Cup, horses, parade, Tea

two fun treats today…

got to watch a parade go by the office with horses and carts and lots of people dressed beautifully…

police cars were blocking Donald Street…

it was getting colder, but everyone kept walking along…

assume it had something to do with the Grey Cup Celebration… didn’t get out quick enough to get a good shot of the horses…

lovely little break in the day…

then I had dinner with two dear young women… don’t get out often to eat, particularly on a week night… and it was excellent to be able to spend some quality time with these amazing individuals… they both give me energy…

went to Carbone Coal Fired Pizza on St. Mary Avenue and had salad and thin crust pizza… yummy… I really do prefer the thin crust versions…

on my way home I stopped for gas… it was around six and there was a lineup… crazy… but now the tank is full… both my dad and George always said it was best to keep the tank at least half full especially in cold weather, so I’ve followed that direction…

when I got home I made a pot of Chocolate Rocket tea… at the restaurant I thought the wait person said they had green and red tea… wasn’t sure what red tea was, lol… apparently he said green or red rose… sometimes I don’t hear that well…

but the Chocolate Rocket was just what I needed…

now for some tv…

album, brother, family photo, good feeling, McLeod House, Mom and Dad, pictures, Tea

this afternoon I was finishing up the hall bookshelves and spent a few minutes going through a photo album because some pictures were falling out of it…

came across a picture of my mom and dad with my brother and I…

20140329-192711.jpg I have that bracelet somewhere around here…

my dad died in the late 80s and mom a year later… my brother a few years after that… I was amazed how mad I was when he died… we hadn’t been close and I hadn’t talked to him for years before that… but once he died I felt like an orphan… even though we hadn’t been connected, I still felt like there was a part of my family out there… took a while to get over that…

a little further along in the album I came across a photo of our family…

20140329-194420.jpg

it was interesting that I found these pictures today… just this morning I made myself some peach apricot tea, it was one of our favourites and very hard to find… I had picked it up at McLeod House in Stonewall…

I made the tea in a pot that the kids’ bought me, with a cozy that a friend had felted for me… all of which made me feel that I was surrounded with love…

good feeling…

carriage ride, Courtenay, diary, Empress Hotel, gloves and pearls, Malahat, pizza, Tea

woke up at the usual 5:30 but went back to sleep until 8:15… made tea and checked email and read the Globe and Mail…

once we were all up, we went for breakfast at the top of the hotel where there were great views of downtown and the harbour… booked our Tea at the Empress…

packed our bags, put everything in the car and checked out…

walked to the harbour and toured the Undersea World… nothing to write home about…

after the show we headed to the Empress for a wonderful tea experience… we wore gloves and Cyndi had on pearls and a lacy headband… it was delightful… lovely sandwiches, scones, and we even had the chef bring us honey in the comb from their own hives…

then a horse drawn carriage picked us up and we had a 45 minute tour…

what a lovely way to end our stay in Victoria…

drove the Malahat, stopping at all the viewing spots and arrived in Courtenay just after 8… had pizza delivered for our dinner… got our bags in and are heading to bed… been a long, eventful and enjoyable day…
