went to the Pool, Patio & Spa show with the kids this afternoon… lots of fun things to look at… checked out some barbecues, fire tables and furniture… 

trying to figure out how to get this into my backyard…

went to The Forks, had a snack and wandered around for a bit… had a chance to see some of the warming huts that had been taken off the River Trail because of the warm weather… did some serious Pokémon hunting while we were there… there are many new ones recently released…

on the way home stopped in at Sport Chek and came out with a new Fitbit… my Flex has lasted three years but the battery is losing its charge more and more quickly… I’d done a whole lot of research online and was ready to make a final decision… 

chose the Charge 2, mainly so I could have my watch and Fitbit all in one… and it’s purple… now one wrist will be free for bracelets, although right now it is feeling a bit naked…

 I just have to figure out how to work it…

the out-of-town kids have been staying elsewhere but a few days ago they slept over and in the morning we walked to the “A” for breakfast…

had to get a picture of them walking down the street holding hands…

my beloved and I held hands whenever we were out and about… it is one of the things I miss the most…

the “A” is my son-in-law’s favourite place for breakfast and George really liked it as well… we often had breakfast there on weekends….

breakfast was lovely and we enjoyed our walk back to the house…

with the cold and snowy weather I haven’t been out walking nearly as much as usual…

today I went to the Formal Gardens at the Park to walk the circle… haven’t been moving much for the last few days and really needed to get some exercise…

the shapes of the trees stand out now as there are no longer leaves on them…

this beauty was covered in red berries…

the sunlight and shadows were quite stunning…

circle of tall grass…

stunning with light shining through…

wonderful to be walking in the sunshine although only managed two laps, not my usual three…

had to slow down now and again but on the whole my back was behaving…

picked up some groceries on my way home and stopped by the floral department to take a few pictures…

this afternoon I was sitting in the living room listening to music I’ve recently downloaded to my phone…

took quite a while to get the music to play… checked my settings, my volume and everything else I could think of… after fussing with it for a while, tried turning the phone off and then back on… after that it worked fine…

made me laugh because that is usually the first thing I recommend to colleagues and friends when they explain about a computer glitch…

was listening to Willie Nelson as I waited for my kids to get here so we could carve pumpkins…

last year we did the carving at their house in their newly renovated kitchen… it has a huge island which was great for a number of people to stand and sit around while worked on their masterpieces…

George had such fun choosing and carving the Halloween pumpkins… he was always the last one at the table, after everyone else had run out of energy and patience and left partially finished pieces…

he taught the girls how to scoop out the seeds and goop and then have the fun of drawing and cutting out a face… with the grandkids times had changed and the designs were much fancier… which also made them more difficult to complete… and often they all wanted the same pattern… but he would figure out how to get everyone on track and having fun…

then there was always the exciting part when candles were inserted and the lights went turned out and the magic would be revealed…

such fun memories;-)…

here’s what we did today…

they picked up costumes on their way over so we did get pictures… yay… they are the cutest onesie jammies… a frog and two foxes…

we used the pumpkins that the kids grew in their garden… the carving went well… everyone decided on simple looks… came out great…

pizza, wings, salad and Halloween cupcakes for supper and then we went to the Park and took a few laps around the Formal Gardens…

yesterday I got off work early and went to the Formal Gardens at the Park to get in some exercise and collect poke balls…

pleased that I actually got out there… by the time I left the office it was drizzling and it kept up the entire time…

once there I put on my hat and rain jacket as well as some gloves to stay warm… I did still have on sandals…

on my circuit around the Gardens I ran into a fellow who asked me some questions about texting and cell phones… we would pass one another and have a few friendly words each time… kind of fun to have someone to talk to, lol… even if he didn’t know what texting was…

got some interesting pictures…

not sure why so many of the trees have this gray streak down the side…

there were leaves everywhere…

the Pavilion through the mist/drizzle…

took a little detour on my walk and spent some time taking pictures of Canada geese before heading to the car and then home…

as I was nearing the park exit saw two deer crossing the road and was able to stop and watch them for a few minutes before other cars drove by and scared them away… there is actually a deer in this picture but it is camouflaged pretty well…

felt good to get out and move… and I collected 100 poke balls:-)…

as I headed out this morning I took this picture of the moon… looked much better in real life…

had to run to the grocery store before work because there was no tea at the office, lol…

but I spent a few minutes in the floral department… always fun… picked up some lovely yellow flowers for someone who is struggling with the flu… the florist mentioned that yellow is the colour of healing…

went for a walk with a couple of colleagues at lunchtime… sunny and warm… nice to get out and enjoy some fresh air…

at the end of the day as I was heading home I noticed these construction people way up high working away… it was chilly and a little windy…

I could not imagine doing that… ever…

reminds me of how lucky I am with my own job, lol…

Wednesday morning I took the leftover pickled veggies for my lunch…

realized when I got out of the car that the container had leaked all over the front seat…

used Kleenex and a heavy item from the glove compartment to see if I could soak it up…

still a wet stain when I got into the car at the end of the day… at home I brought out some towels and used a number of 2 by 4s to weigh them down… still there in the morning so I called the Chamois and booked an appointment to have the upholstery shampooed…

took it in this morning and spent an hour at Costco while it was being worked on… only had two grocery bags so needed to be a bit careful in what I picked up…

what I didn’t realize was that the seats would be quite wet when I picked it up…

the car is now in the garage with the windows wide open… hope it dries before Monday morning…

went to a play at PTE with a friend this afternoon and afterwards she dropped me at my neighbourhood grocery store… didn’t want to drive the car while it is still soggy…

picked up the few things I needed and walked home…

the leaves that were still on the trees/bushes were gorgeous…

this hedge was a lovely shade of red…

love the yellows and oranges in this section…

and then there are the trees that have lost all their leaves…

after all that I had a lovely nap, lol…

first thing I saw this morning was this stunning sky…

the colour in this picture is accurate… amazing… brought joy to my heart…

drove to the Formal Gardens at Assiniboine Park to walk and collect poke balls… one side of the garden was filled with parked cars…

there were tons of kids playing everywhere, but it took a while to figure out that an Ultimate tournament was going on… the other side of the Gardens didn’t have any cars, lol…

decided to walk the loop in the opposite direction than I usually do because so many cars were coming into the area…

it was chilly, but not too bad as long as I kept moving… and I had dressed warmly…

as I was taking pictures of the berries on this tree it occurred to me that a dear young friend and her daughters might be somewhere in the Park playing… they were and we found one another and had a visit while the girls played a game… got this shot of geese flying overhead during the game…

she said the sweetest thing when she introduced me to someone… she called me her mom of the heart…

it was a great treat to spend time with her and we stood for an hour or so and I didn’t feel too cold until I left and got back into the car when I realized how cold I was… 

after a few errands it took me quite a while and a few extra blankets to get warm again…

the kids came for dinner and the final surprise was my youngest grandson helping me download and play a new game and giving me a big hug as they were leaving…

wonderful relaxing day…

ate, read and napped…

watched some squirrels in the front yard… 

it seems like they are everywhere these days… whenever I go for a walk I see lots of them… 

and they are running around in the garden all the time… 

caught one the other day eating a green pepper…

they can really jump when they want to get somewhere, lol…

but they are fun to watch…

been reminded a few times recently of how privileged I am…

today I was able to take an extra half hour and have lunch with a great friend… we try to get together every month or so and check out different downtown restaurants, mostly within walking distance of my office… today we went to the Velvet Glove…

had a good visit and a fine meal… 

not only am I able to take a little extra time for lunch but get to spend time with friends…

did laugh at the end of the day when I realized how much of what I ate was green… even the soup had green pumpkin seeds in it, lol…

yesterday I walked to and around the English and Leo Mol Gardens with my camera… another privilege that many people don’t have…

the fact that I have the time, am fit and healthy and able to take on such an activity is great too…still lots of flowers around… and the leaves are turning colour at an alarming rate… for some of my walk it felt like it was raining leaves…

the final reminder of my privilege was in the bathroom after I got home… 

the toilet paper is folded all fancy because the cleaners were in today… 

talk about privilege…
