my favourite, and most used, burner on the stove stopped working all of a sudden…
I called Hameed Appliances, was sent a form to complete, and got an appointment the next day…
Ron, who has been here previously, arrived and had a look… to replace the piece with a new element was going to cost $500, so I am waiting to see if they might have access to a used element…
otherwise, I am going to leave it, thinking of my mother-in-law, who used to cook on a little stove that only had two usable burners… she could produce a meal with 3 vegetables, potatoes, and a roast, without any problem, lol…
my housemate has been picking up groceries for me so I haven’t ordered from Save-on-Foods for quite a while, but on Thursday I put an order in for delivery…
I had received an email advising of a $25 refund if I spent $75, so I went ahead and ordered some regular items on my shopping list, lol…
I made sure to call their info line because one item was buy-one-get-one-free, and I couldn’t remember if I should put two, or one, on the order…
the phone was answered quickly and the customer service person had the answer right away…
I also appreciate that they no longer use plastic bags, except for produce… I put out my own boxes and the driver transfers from their bins to mine…
when my order arrived, there wasn’t a credit so I went back to the email, only to discover that the deadline had just passed… by a few days, lol… apparently I should have read it better or put the order in sooner…
as you enter the Mediterranean biome there are dozens of amaryllis in various stages… some nearly done, while others are fully open… many with multiple petals…
absolutely gorgeous…
and then you step into the Babs Asper display area… twelve hundred orchids in one place;-)… heaven…
the Blooms in Winter display is so lovely, a perfect place to enjoy the beauty of orchids…
there are a number of arches to walk through and benches to sit on and enjoy the views…
first I spent time at the registration desk where they had to make me a new card as mine had stopped working… apparently the website has been misbehaving a bit, so hopefully the new card will solve that issue;-)…
then we went through the biomes… there were a number of baskets of orchids throughout the Tropical biome…
very humid, and it was obvious that there had been a serious trim and thinning of many of the plants…
the cacao trees had been cutback and all the pods have been removed…
the koi were very active… while we were there one of the zoo keepers came along and fed them… clearly the fish were waiting for them, lol…
the dwarf banana is just starting with a new set of banana fingers…
my housemate pointed out the difference between the dwarf and regular bananas… the dwarf has the banana fingers coming out of the flower, whereas the full-size banana has a flower at the end and the fingers below…
there are always subtle changes in the Tropical biome each time I visit;-)…
went to the Park Cafe for breakfast and had a very nice time…
Richard was our waitperson and he did a wonderful job…
I had tea as we waited for our breakfast and it did seem to be taking a bit longer than usual, but not horribly…
when it came, Richard advised that they cooked my poached eggs to medium and he remembered that I had asked for very soft, so he had them redo them, which was why it took a bit longer…
he also mentioned at the end that I could have requested a grilled tomato instead of the hash browns which he saw that I hadn’t eaten…
it was the first time in ages that I felt we’d received stellar service at a restaurant…
