great time with my boys today…

we went out for lunch, did some shopping, and emptied and refilled the hot tub in under an hour…

that was pretty amazing because usually it takes about five hours to do this… think I will use this process in the future…

found out that the PVRs are broken, which explained why neither I or the guys could get any of them working… set up an appointment for someone to come out and do a repair during the week… missing a number of shows, sigh…

finally, we added a light strip along the staircase… it is going to be a great addition to my Google Home…

much cleaner looking than the twinkle lights were;-)…

ended our time with dinner in, and then they were off to watch the Jets game at home…

I’ve been thinking about life a lot lately having to sort through the finances with my financial planner to make sure that I could actually afford to stop working…

thinking of how different our life would have been if my beloved were still here and we were doing this planning together…

missing him a lot these days…

this time was supposed to be fun for the two of us together, but now it will only be me and a new curve on my journey…

I’m looking forward to it but I sure wish that he was here with me…

fun day with my grandsons…

met the three of them for dimsum… we haven’t been for ages so it was a great treat… felt a bit sad that their daddy was working so couldn’t come because he had mentioned it just last week, lol…

from there the youngest and I ran a few errands… we picked up fish food, birdseed and a few groceries… we also found a wreath for the front door;-)…

once we got home we put everything away and then he filled the reindeer Advent calendar with chocolate covered raisins… that was a lot of fun, and every drawer is jam packed…

we made nachos with bacon for supper and watched a few episodes of the Holiday Baking Championship…

his big brother came and picked him up and I am recovering in front of the tv;-)…

on this Remembrance Day, I watched the Ottawa ceremony on tv, thinking of the members of my family and all the others whose service provided us with the freedom we enjoy… I also thought proudly of my sick son-in-law who was participating in the service I was watching…

then when I was in the kitchen I decided to make a few dishes from those who have left us…

I started with homemade coleslaw which I’ve been craving for a while… it is based on a recipe from a special woman who often fed large groups of people, so my well-worn recipe has a few different options for measurements, lol…

then I made chicken and dumplings, one of my mom’s recipes…

finally I decided on meatballs and sauce… I used store-bought meatballs but made my dad’s homemade sauce… the recipe is just in my head… I cooked spaghetti and packaged meals for lunches and suppers this week…

will share some of these meals as I don’t like to freeze things if I don’t have to;-)…

ended the evening with my BS buddies… I truly am blessed…

been thinking of my dad a lot recently… his birthday was in November and he spent time overseas as a soldier, so during these days of remembrance it just seems right to look back at some lovely memories…

this photo is from Then to Now, the history of La Salle, Manitoba…

a gentle man, in all ways… he spoke quietly but if you were in trouble you knew it… not that you’d be in trouble very often…

he always saw the best in people, which made him particularly suited for his work with Canada Manpower where he helped individuals figure out what type of work they were best suited for, and then found them an appropriate position… in those days you might only have one or two jobs in your career…

at home, he took in strays… not animals, lol, people… we would often have someone staying with us who needed a safe place to regroup for a while…

he was wise and generous… one of those people who always had a thoughtful opinion when you needed it, although, only when asked… and would give you the shirt off his back, or anything else he had, if he felt it would help…

he has been gone for over thirty years but I can still hear his wisdom…

I miss you dad…

just reached 350 followers on WordPress…

laughed the other day when a friend introduced me and said that I had 3000 followers… really made me giggle, lol… 300… 3000… very close;-)…

it has taken six years to reach that number…

had me thinking of the changes over that time… how the blog has gone from information on what to do when you become a widow/widower to my daily life…

my life really has been blessed… as I continue to put on those big girl pants…

recently I’ve heard a lot about Wills…

today on tv they were discussing the need for one, and how most people don’t get that piece of organization done…

I did mine in July of 2012… and I likely need to update it as they mentioned you should review it every five years or so…

amazingly, it has been over seven years since it was written… it was shortly after my beloved died and I was getting ready to have major surgery… I wanted to have my affairs in order on the chance that I didn’t make it… wanted things to be as easy as possible for the girls…

rather proud that I was able to put my fingers on it right away when I went looking, lol…

all the boys came for dinner tonight…

they searched for fish in the pond, but the fish are trying really hard not to be found… wish we could tell them they are going to freeze if they don’t come into the condo;-(…

my son-in-law is much more patient than the younger boys although he only caught a few… two more of the babies and one bigger one…

we talked about catching the fish with grandpa and how the three biggest ones have been in the tank and pond since before he died…

we will continue to see if we can find more… still time before the pond freezes over…
