today marks six birthdays without my beloved…
it always felt that he lost out because often his birthday and Christmas would be lumped together… particularly for the many years that we really lived hand-to-mouth…
for all of our family birthdays, the birthday person got to choose what we would have for dinner… for the last number of years we have had burgers, French fries, milkshakes and apple pie in his memory… he especially liked the burgers just down the street…
the first few years we Skyped with the out of town kids… one year we had a phone and an iPad so we could get both of them in the room with us…
last year everyone was busy so I had a quiet day remembering so many fun times we had over the years…
our plan was for the city kids to come over tonight but the momma is sick so they stayed home… wasn’t planning to connect with the out-of-towners but was able to FaceTime with my daughter while she had her supper…
I was going to stop and pick up groceries and then a burger, but it was miserable outside so in the end I drove straight home and then ordered a thali platter…
time with my BS buddies and now to bed… life has settled into a pattern and I wear the big girl pants more and more easily…

not sure if that is a good thing or not…

this morning I turned my Chihuly calendar to the last page…

so happy to have next year’s all ready to go… and I know exactly where it is…
can’t hang it yet as my mother-in-law always said that it was bad luck to put up a new calendar before the actual start of the year, lol…
funny how some things stick with you…

big girl pants, Brandon, Brandon Day 3, breakfast, game, pool, sunshine, team, volleyball, widow, youngest
up early and the youngest and I went for an early breakfast… he is usually the first up in their family so was excited for us to go down to eat together…

spent an hour in the pool area… the boys really enjoyed their final trips down the slide…

packed up our bags, checked out and headed to the first game…

it ended up being the last game for the team… they finished the tournament in 5th place… our guy had some great serves and volleys… so proud of the entire team… they have come a long way over the four years that I’ve been watching them play…
we watched one of the girls’ semi finals and then began our trip home…

another beautiful drive on a sunshiny day…

so far… we’ve been to the pool and done some office work…

we have been to a lot of volleyball… three games in fact… two for our boys and one of the girls’ games…

had some fun with my tripod and the new tiny holder for my iPhone…

eaten a lot of food… not quite as well rounded meals as usual…

and driven back and forth, and around the town quite a bit… I believe we passed Brandon University at least four times, lol…
but I did get two Christmas presents:-)…
although we ate out for each meal, we had supper in our room as we were worn out…
everyone is tired, but it was a good day…

left work at noon and met up with my kids at home…
then it was into their car and off to Brandon for the eldest grandson to play in his last high school volleyball tournament…
my goodness… seems like just a few years ago he was a baby;-)…
nice drive on a warm and sunny day…

we made it just in time for their first game… they played really well and just missed out on the win.. our hearts were racing…

then we headed to the hotel and checked in… fifteen minutes later we were on our way to the next game…
saw this lovely sunset as we arrived at the second school…

their game was over half an hour late and this series had very poor refereeing…
out for supper at the hotel now and then to bed… been a rather long day…

big girl pants, Black Friday, budget, headboard, mattress, paint, purple, sheets, widow
on Saturday the bedroom got a lovely coat of very light pink paint… really, white paint with a touch of purple in it… it looks beautiful and I am very happy with it…
on Sunday my daughter and I went out and I bought a new mattress… did go over the budget which I had set for myself, but after seeing what they cost had to raise it a bit to get good quality… saved nearly half the original cost by buying on Black Friday weekend…
today the mattress arrived and my son-in-law was able to be here to accept the delivery…

the old mattress was 10 inches high… this one is 14 inches and I am getting used to reaching down to answer the phone and put things on the bedside table, lol… clearly we are going to have to make a new headboard sooner, rather than later, because there is very little of it visible, lol…
and then I had to stop on my way home to get new sheets because none of mine were going to fit…
have just climbed between the sheets and am looking forward to a good night’s sleep…

bedroom, big girl pants, chocolate, club, hot, hot chocolate, hot tub, Lindt, mattress, quiet, widow
had a wonderful hot tub tonight… the stars were bright and it was very quiet… because the temperature has been so warm there wasn’t even the sound of skating in the rink at the community club, because the ice is likely melted…
been a while since the tub has been working properly, so it was great to go out and have it hot, lol…
when I came back in I made some hot chocolate with coconut milk and a few squares of a coconut Lindt bar… topped the snack off with some almonds…

I’m slowly reintegrating items into the bedroom and I started with this little vignette…

always fun to reorganize a space, but it can be a bit of work…
tomorrow a new mattress will be arriving which should help with my sleep…
looking forward to having the space all set up and comfortable… one little step at a time…

yesterday my hibiscus started to bloom…
when it moved into the house in late September it lost some of its leaves…
it didn’t bloom outside until really late in the season, so I was very happy when the buds started to form in the house…

it always takes a long time from the first bud to the blossom so I was surprised when I found it open yesterday and this morning the second bloom opened…

sure does brighten up the living room;-)…

a touch of red for the season…

big girl pants, craft sale, creamer, George, left-handed, lefties, mug, pottery, sugar bowl, widow
on Saturday I bought a cream and sugar bowl set at the craft show we went to…

they are exactly what I’ve been looking for… a couple of years ago I broke a piece off the one I’ve had for years, and have been looking ever since…
I also picked up a mug and asked the woman selling the pottery if they had any mugs for lefties…
she laughed because her husband, the potter, is also left-handed… she does the glazing and the colours were excellent, particularly as purple is very difficult to produce…

they do make them, but didn’t have this particular mug with them…

top left shows what I see when holding the mug… top right shows what others see… and the bottom shows how I’ve had to turn the lid around on the sugar bowl so that I can open it easily, as the little knob is also designed for a right handed person to open…
the funny thing is that George and I were left-handed but both of the girls are right-handed and all of my grandkids are right-handed as well… we had really hoped for someone we could share some of the things we have learned over time…
oh well, much simpler for them…
