last night we celebrated May Day...

the dining room table was set and ready by 4:15, which was pretty good considering I got home at 3:45, lol…

this group gathers every month or so and share a meal, check-in with one another and then have a conversation which can lead us in a variety of directions… 

I’ve had this bowl since Christmas when my son-in-law bought it for me… since then it’s been sitting in the counter with various chocolate bars in it… put buns from Homer’s in it… first time it has held something other than chocolate, lol…

it is a beauty… although it looked pretty good filled with chocolate;-)…

there had been tons of research done and we learned a lot… heard about Morris dancers and saw photos of May Day traditions over the centuries…

enjoy spending time with this great group…

or not…

Saturday was a good day… up at a reasonable time… made a lovely breakfast… I tend to have eggs on the weekend… 

got some laundry done… even scrubbed down the top of the stove… sure do miss George for some jobs and scrubbing is one of them… my arms are wussy but he had strong hands and arms… when he scrubbed a pot it was completely shiny when he was done;-)…

had a break and sat outside and read for a bit… texted with my daughter to see if they were coming for dinner on Sunday and when she advised they were, I headed down to the freezer to pull something out to thaw…

that is when the day took a turn… everything was thawed… as in not frozen, not even cold… bad… it smelled bad and all of it was bad…

my daughter and grandson came over and he – who has a strong stomach and weak nose – unlike his mother and grandmother – took out five bags to the garbage…

then he hosed down and rinsed out the freezer a few times and moved the – now very heavy and completely full – garbage can to the back of the yard… of course Friday was garbage day, so the disgusting smell will be around all week… likely we will need to put some bleach in it for a few days after it gets dumped to get rid of the odour…

so, here’s my freezer today…

waiting to be picked up and taken to the scrap yard…

starting to research a replacement… should I get another chest freezer or go for an upright one…

decisions, decisions…

great excitement today…

ran out and did a number of errands and when I got home came outside and sat by the pond… first time I’ve been out on the back deck this year… only brought out cushions for one chair but it was delightful to sit out and read a book in the sunshine…

had my lunch there and eventually it got so hot that I changed into a tank top and shorts…

kids came over and my son-in-law cleaned the leaves out of the pond, with a little help from the younger boys… they found a frog, woohoo, which always makes me happy… maybe it has been making the odd noise I’ve been hearing when I’ve been in the hot tub over the last week or so…

and he got the pumps in and working… 

there is still lots of work to do in the pond, as dead plants need to be removed, ones that are starting need to be cleaned up, and new ones purchased and popped in, although not before all chances of frost are gone… have lost a few when I was over eager, lol…

we had barbecued steak for supper and now they are gone and I am sitting listening to the water running with the sun shining in my face and a blanket on to keep me cozy…

will be sure to have a hot tub to enjoy the sound of the water before bed…

summer really is coming;-)…

nine years ago today the hot tub arrived and sat in the garage…

took another few weeks before it made it to its home on a new deck beside the house…

actually got to sit in it on Mother’s Day that year…


it is a special reminder of the previous ten years of work… they were quite amazing… 

started the job on a contract to get the space set up as the organization had moved from Toronto… there  were boxes everywhere…  the whole place needed to be set up… from there I worked up to the office administrator and consulted with the students regarding finances and bursaries… the team grew and was quite wonderful… 

was always happy to welcome people to our space and enjoyed working with the governing body from across the country… remembering all the things I learned about conference calling and how over those years the systems improved… I have always loved working with technology and certainly had lots of opportunities to do that…

grew as a person during those years as well… we had 360 degree performance reviews which involved input from all of the people I interacted with… from my colleagues, to the students, to the council and committee members, to the suppliers and people who rented space in the building…

the staff team also met in pairs to encourage and challenge one another… sometimes it was very hard to hear where I needed to improve, but, in the end, very beneficial…

I really have been blessed in my work life… 

was talking with someone a few days ago and mentioned how I didn’t go back to work until my girls were in high school and so I anticipate being on the job for a few more years as I had all that time at home when they were young… what a gift that was…

the hot tub reminds me of special times with special people…

hurray, its Friday… very happy about this… been a long week…

sunshine started early…

this morning I finished planting the morning glories and moon flowers…

excited to see if I will get blossoms earlier than usual this year…

was bright and sunny the whole day and the temperature was 12 degrees when I was heading home… so nice to be a bit warmer…

made Japanese Ginger Pork Burgers with Bok Choy  and carrot salad for dinner… instead of the brioche bun, used romaine lettuce… how good am I;-)…

tasty and healthy…

hoping for warm and sunny days over the weekend…

as I was gathering the items for my breakfast smoothie I looked out the window and spotted this bunny…


so cute… 

reminded me that last summer there were two in the garden… did make me wonder if there was going to be an explosion of them, lol…

have heard from various people that they have had bunny infestations in different areas of the city…

happily the ones who visit my yard haven’t eaten my plants… well, not too much…

it is wonderful to have wildlife in the garden… looking forward to getting the fish back out there and seeing what type of birds are going to come and visit…

first morning this season that I didn’t need to turn on the light in the bedroom…

great sign that Spring really is coming…

been overcast for most of the day and it is still quite cool with a bit of wind…

looking forward to some sunshine although it might not turn up until Friday…

been a month since we were on the sun drenched beaches of Mazatlan… 

have to channel some of that weather, lol…

more fun today…

got to shop right in the office when a client brought in some nighties and pyjamas… she had a lot of purple and mauve, lol…

lovely colours and beautiful work… 

the most important thing for me is the feel of fabric… I have been known to feel an article of clothing on someone else without asking… 

chose a very soft nightie with little purple hearts… it is being shortened for me… seems like my favourite sleepwear is soft like a worn t-shirt but a bit longer… 

then it was off to Nick’s on Broadway…

have heard about this spot before but today was my first visit… been craving grilled cheese so ordered one which came with coleslaw and a pickle… it was okay, but not something I would order again…

great visit with a friend and former colleague… we’ve gone through some very complicated and stressful times together… always a treat to spend time with her…

back at the office had some success with computers and solved a few problems…

on Saturday I picked up a little greenhouse to start plants in… seems like this should be neat and tidy…

didn’t get around to starting anything on Sunday, but this morning I put 10 cups of water into the container before I left for work…

seemed like a lot of water… when I got home it had all soaked into the mix…

have a headache so the seeds are not getting planted tonight…

gonna have lots of morning glories this year… and maybe they will start blooming earlier:-)… woo hoo…

lovely walk to the “A” and back this morning…

my grandson was with me on the way there… we caught a few Pokémon and saw the mallard couple in the creek… it was a bit chilly because of the wind, but the sun was shining…

I had been up and made tea for the daddy who arrived after his overnight shift at work… he had a nap for an hour or so before we went for breakfast… on Sunday the “A” doesn’t open until 8… he and I have learned this the hard way…

he and the youngest drove over… was so hungry I forgot to take a picture of my meal, lol…

after breakfast they headed to their house and I walked back home…

warmer with the wind at my back… had to stop and take a few pictures of the buds starting on the big tree, maybe some kind of willow, just before I reached the house…

had a short nap and read in the sunshine in the living room for the remainder of the day… 

my daughter and the younger boys came for dinner and a visit and I went back to reading when they left…

listening to the ducks flying over on their way back to the creek… love the sound of ducks and geese as they travel…
