up early yesterday, had a quick breakfast, and headed out to get some gardening done before the rain started…
brought out the baskets…
put on my gloves, gathered up seeds, soil, tags, and tools…
emptied one of the nine vegetable planter boxes and then as I dug in fertilizer and loosened up the soil, I removed a bit of soil from each pot and then added in fresh soil…
next I planted peas and beans in the area where they will be able to grow up the arch…
I also planted some in the file cabinet planter so they can grow up the other side of the arch…
the cucumbers and tomatoes will go into the remaining pots around the end of the month… I have a few butternut squash seeds to put in as well…
and then it started raining, so everything got put away and I came into the house, lol…
Tuesday I found a rope and attached it to the biggest pot under the far side of the deck… previously it had been on the main deck… I was able to pull it out and then drag it all the way around to the deck beside the hot tub…
once I got it into its new spot, I set in the large obelisk and then planted many morning glory seeds and one of the dahlias…
put a small pail over the top of the dahlia and hope that protects it from the silly weather, lol…
I think I like it in this new spot and am hoping it will fill up with the morning glories and that the dahlia will grow tall and produce flowers…
recently I saw something on social media about popcorn…
it recommended soaking the kernels in water for a while before draining and popping them and there would be less unpopped kernels…
so I gave it a try and it worked great… it did take longer to get popped but there were less leftover kernels and the popped corn seemed larger…
a couple of days ago I used this method again… while the last bit of it was popping I ran downstairs to bring up the laundry…
when I got upstairs, it smelled odd and as I opened the microwave the Kleenex that covers the spout on the glass measuring cup was smouldering… tossed it into the sink…
I’ve used folded Kleenex for at least six or seven years…
so, don’t think I will use that system again, lol… took some time for the smell to leave both the microwave and the house…
the volunteer purple datura in the front garden has grown huge over the summer…
when I was out watering the other day I noticed that many of the seed pods had already popped open so I went out and collected some for next year…
this one is a shade of mauve and opens upwards rather than hanging down…
the flowers are also quite small…
the seeds have already started to pop out into the bowl and I will let them dry a bit more before putting them into an empty pill bottle to store for the future… and I will be sure to label them;-)…
in a pot in the garden there is another white datura… this flower is much bigger and also opens up rather than down…
I will save some of those as well, being careful of the prickly bits, lol…
on Monday I received a birthday present in the mail…
it is a plastic envelope with a disk of soil, a popsicle stick and seeds…
it will turn into sunflower micro greens…
this morning, after going online for directions, I added water, stirred up the soil, added the seeds, stirred it a bit more, misted it and put it into the sunshine;-)…
will be checking it out daily to see how it grows…
