here fishy, fishy, fishy…

that was how we started our early morning fishing expedition yesterday once we were on the water, lol…

within about two minutes of the lures being dropped over the side of the boat, as we were trolling, the first Jack fish was caught…

and they kept coming… the younger boys caught the first four and then we adults caught some as well… I was pretty excited when I caught one… totalled 11ish… some discussion as to whether they counted if they jumped off as we were bringing them into the boat, lol…

the last person to catch one was my son-in-law… he was using his fancy catfish rod that we picked up last week for his birthday… he was also the one driving the boat and bringing in the fish when they came up to the side…

between he and my daughter they were able to get the lures out of the mouths of the fish, who were really trying to swallow them whole… some of that process was a little gross…

July is not a time to eat Jack so we never did get to have fish for breakfast…

this was my early morning snack…

pretty fine place for a jar of chia pudding…

last night, after our supper, cooked on the fire, we had s’mores… we used chocolate covered cookies and smooshed the marshmallow between two of them… yummy… couldn’t get a photo because it was dark…

today the sky was very interesting… this is the view I had when I woke up…

the dog and I took a short walk and got this picture…

up early again, but everyone else got up too, and we went fishing…

the sky was foggy or misty or smoky, we couldn’t decide which…

got a fun shot of some of the boats in the marina…

later in the day finally got a nice picture of one of the many loons we saw throughout our time in the boat…

there was lots of tubing fun..

last night right after work my daughter and I headed out to meet up with the family at Falcon Lake… we picked up a few groceries and were on the road by 6:15…

traffic wasn’t too bad and we arrived to find the pop-up camper ready and the three guys around the fire… for supper we had burgers on ciabatta buns and veggies…

delicious… they went for a short walk as I was finishing my blog post…

lovely fire… very relaxing…

a good night’s sleep and I was up and out early… this is the difference between six am…

and ten am, lol…

bunch of sleepy heads…

this is the first trip with the tent trailer and we are having fun figuring out where to put things and how other things work… my beloved would have enjoyed it… we talked about him this morning as the Coleman propane stove they have is the one we used for camping trips… it is older than my daughter;-)…

I am forever amazed at how these kids can cook just about anything over the campfire, which is always delicious, but sometimes a bit slow…

started yesterday with a morning glory sighting…

they are just so stunning… make me smile every time I see one… I am always astonished at the light that seems to pour out of the centre of them…

it was a lovely day so we had lunch in the Millennium Park… the sun was shining and Emptyful was misting rather nicely over us…

another colleague walked by and took this great shot of the four of us…

once we were finished eating a few of us walked over and around the Downtown Farmers Market… we were pretty quick but I was so happy to have found peas and small cucumbers…

what a haul… had a few last night and they are delicious…

ah, summer…

last night I spent the evening with a dear friend…

we had a wonderful time… we went to Mona Lisa on Corydon for dinner…

as I often do, I ate off the appetizer menu…

we started with fresh bread which we dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar…

then I had the bocconcini e pomodoro with layers of fresh bocconcini cheese, roma tomatoes, red onion, dressed with extra virgin olive oil, oregano fresh garlic and basil… very tasty… and so pretty…

finished off with cozze – fresh atlantic mussels served in your choice of sauce: plum tomato or creamy vodka saffron… I chose the creamy vodka saffron sauce…

what a perfect choice… these were by far the best mussels I have ever eaten… the sauce was heavenly and I ate every bit of it…

we talked for ages… really appreciate the opportunity to spend time with the important people in my life and make  memories…

life is good…

had a very lovely evening on Monday…

was picked up from the office by a friend, and went off for supper and a visit with eight other amazing women…

supper was potato salad, three bean salad, chicken breast, strawberries, ice cream, chocolate sauce and chocolate cookies… it was delicious…

actually, I didn’t have the ice cream or the chocolate sauce, but I could not pass up the cookie and strawberries…

we always spend some time discussing an interesting topic… during our conversation we talked about what we remembered of our childhood…

on reflection it seemed like most of the group had not had happy childhoods although at the time it seemed normal…

was very interesting to hear that so many of us did not have the picture perfect childhood that everyone imagines…

tonight I was out with someone else and we discussed the fact that her childhood was nothing to write home about…

it appears that those of a similar age were brought up in a less-happy and more focused manner than we imagined everyone else was…

interesting conversations…

wonder how our children will view their childhoods…

big girl pants, feet, garden, memories, obsessed, pictures, pond, runners, shoes, waiting, widow

a few weeks ago I was stopped at a light on my way to work and someone crossed in front of me with the most amazing green runners… it was too late to get out my phone to take a picture… a few days later I was waiting by Polo Park and a ton of people were rushing to make the light and many of them had cool shoes… again, no time to take any photos…

since then I’ve been obsessed with shoes…

wherever I’ve been walking, if I see some interesting shoes l stop and take a picture, after asking if it is okay…

people seem to feel special and always say yes…

here’s what I’ve come up with so far…

when my oldest was a pre-teen, she went through a stage where she always wore two different coloured runners… lasted for a few years and still now, if I spot someone with two different shoes on it reminds me of those days…

on my Facebook page I often put up pictures of my feet as I am relaxing by the pond… it has become a bit of a ritual to do foot pictures in various places now… getting pedicures, waiting for appointments, on vacation…

this one from March is of my son-in-law and I in Mazatlan as we were waiting for a strike on the fishing lines, which never did happen…

took this one yesterday as I was drinking tea and waiting for my hair to dry…

beloved, big girl pants, camping, clematis, family, flowers, George, grandsons, memories, moments, Palomino, pop-up, purple, trailer, widow

we’ve been searching for a trailer for camping for the last while… looked at a few options but they weren’t just what we were wanting…

on Friday I went with my son-in-law and the younger grandsons to look at a pop-up trailer just outside the city…

we found the place rather easily, lol…

there was the most beautiful clematis in the driveway, and I had to take some pictures…

we had a look at the trailer which was set up in the garage…

although it is bigger, it reminded me of the trailer that we had for many years and the great camping trips we enjoyed with it…

we decided to buy it… it was a bit of a process, but between my credit union and the one in the town, we managed to get the funds so we wouldn’t have to make another trip to pick up the trailer…

when we got back to the house where it was, I was chatting with the woman who was selling it, as her dad and my son-in-law were taking it down…

she was talking about how her dad was such a support for her and I said something about my husband being the same for my daughters… then I mentioned he had died five years ago… she looked at me oddly and said George… at which point we realized that she had worked with my beloved… she had thought I looked familiar but was confused when my son-in-law had the same name, lol…

makes the trailer even more special…

the final giggle for me was the brand name on it… anyone who knows my son-in-law will see the connection…

he worked at the Palomino Club for years… we didn’t even notice this until we got it home…

looking forward to family fun and memories with this new addition….

clearly this was meant to be… serendipity…

big girl pants, credit card, garden, grandsons, Kenora, Lac du Bonnet, memories, moments, one-on-one, purple, Red Lobster, widow

yesterday I had the great opportunity to spend one-on-one time with each of my grandsons… doesn’t happen that often, and rarely on the same day… great moments to savour…

first was with the youngest at the Fishing Hole where we talked all about a recent fishing trip and how he and daddy had caught a catfish… we also checked out the lures, looking for a nice purple one, lol…

after he and his parents had headed off to Lac du Bonnet for the weekend, spent time with the middle one as the two of us waited for him to be picked up to go to Kenora with a friend… we talked about bike riding, bunnies and watering the garden… we also discussed all the things he’s planning to do at his friend’s cottage… soon he’ll be able to come over on the bus for visits and to help me in the garden…

supper out with the oldest as he drove me home… he stayed in town as he is working over the weekend… we talked about rowing and car accidents and people who are difficult to deal with…

hard to believe that he is so grown up now… we had dinner at Red Lobster and enjoyed the treat…

I was a bit nervous because I only had cash on me to pay for the meal so wanted to be sure we didn’t spend more than we had, lol…

I will be glad when I get the replacement credit card…

ended the day in the garden and took this shot as the solar lights were starting to twinkle on, one by one…
