beginning preparations for my visit to Ottawa soon…

gathering items to take with me and on the list is chocolate… my daughter is becoming an expert on the subject…

she has a few favourites from various chocolate shops around town…

today I picked up a few things from Morden’s…

arrived two minutes before they closed as traffic was bad because of all the construction… they were so gracious and provided excellent customer service, even at those last few minutes before closing…

picked up a few bars and the darkest chocolate they had… also got some of their cashews…

George loved cashews and they made me think of him as I was snacking on a handful tonight…

on a roll with chocolate today… last night on our way home we stopped at a new bakery in the neighbourhood and I picked up this chocolate ganache tart…

took it to the office, cut it into eight tiny pieces and shared it with my colleagues… this works very well for me because I get a taste of something but then don’t have tons of it… and it’s fun to share…

still have a bit of time to get to her other favourites so I have the necessary items when I arrive there, lol…

looking forward to the shopping and the trip…

really impressed with the teenagers we spent time with over the last week…

they were polite, helpful, kind and caring…

not what one always thinks of seventeen year olds…

they had such fun together and with our younger boys… clearly most have younger siblings…

they played with the younger kids, had real conversations with the adults, did dishes, cleaned up, ran errands, paid for supplies, and took turns with the fun activities…

the most impressive thing for me was how they encouraged one another, rather than tease or make fun of… jumping off the rocks was quite stressful for some, as was learning some of the water sports, but they only ever encouraged…

what a lovely group of young people and what a treat to spend time with them…

our final day of camping…

we woke up at 5 am to the sound of a critter under the camper trying to eat something… it was a skunk and it was trying to devour the chocolate cookies which we had missed putting away along with the marshmallows last night… not sure if we breathed for the thirty minutes it wandered around the campsite…


I got up around 7:30 and spent a quiet time enjoying my tea, reading and thinking of all the great moments over these five days…


once everyone was up, the last meal we cooked on the campfire was chicken and bannock…


packed up the camper, dropped the boat at a friend’s seasonal site and headed home in three vehicles filled with very worn out individuals…

back in the house by 3:30 and busy unpacking and organizing supper and tomorrow’s lunch for work…

had an awesome time and made lots of wonderful memories…

our last full day here…

we got up early and the younger boys, the daddy and I went fishing…


we arrived back with 2 pickerel which the daddy filleted, and we will have for a late night snack…

brunch was ready and we had bacon pancakes with chocolate bits sprinkled on top… pretty tasty…

cleaned everything up and met the kids at the diving rock… 

had a fun day as one person learned to wakeboard and others had turns on the   wakeboard and the kneeboard… and snacks on the boat…


total of six seventeen year olds along with the twelve year old, the eight year old, three adults, and one dog…

amazing how well we all got along…


supper was tacos in a bag, one of the boys’ favourites… not quite the gourmet meals we’ve been enjoying, lol, but we are planning on pickerel and bannock as a late night snack…

four teenagers along with the mommy and daddy went fishing and the younger boys have been keeping the fire burning using only small logs, twigs, and bark which they have been finding in the woods… been very entertaining…


gonna miss these guys tomorrow night, lol…

vacation is such a wonderful time…

big breakfast of sunny side up eggs with hash browns and bacon… again, on the campfire…


then another glorious day on the water…

tubing, cliff diving, wakeboarding and beach time…


for dinner tonight’s menu was steak, shrimp, lobster, potatoes, mushrooms, green beans and peas…


dishes are done and we are roasting marshmallows… 

quick trip down to the beach to post this and then off to bed…

started the day with tea and a book while the rest of the family slept…


last night as we were getting ready for bed we discovered dozens of spiders in the camper… the youngest had the eagle eye that would spot them, the middle one would catch them, while daddy found dudu coils in an attempt to smoke them out… my job was to shine my flashlight wherever they were spotted… we were all kind of creeped out but in the end managed to sleep… don’t think we will ever forget this trip, lol…

after a simple breakfast the younger boys, daddy and I went fishing while the rest of the crew went on a hike…


it was entertaining to see their process for putting on sunscreen…

my son-in-law caught a 26″ pickerel… it was very big and the only nibble we got but we had a fun time together…


after lunch the younger boys and I went on a short hike to the bridge that goes over the river/creek that we had fished on… it was a lovely walk, but hot…


now we are waiting for baked potatoes and kebabs for our dinner…

camping meals sure have improved over the years;-)…

arrived just before noon on this beautiful day…

the borrowed camper was set up and then the boys headed back to the city for the boat…

we got everything organized and the girls went down to the beach… I spent a while in the hammock…


the sky was beautiful… it was lovely and peaceful…


then the guys arrived with the boat and we headed to the water…

we spent hours by the diving rock and had such fun… even the dog was diving…


a little wakeboard demonstration by the oldest and the dad… then back to the campsite for a rest and dinner…


clearly we had a lot of fun… what with all those wet towels and clothes, lol…

we are now sitting at the beach watching a gorgeous sunset…


what a great start to our time here…

been busy since I got home…

had a brief rest and then a simple supper of fresh cucumbers with tiny tomatoes and basil from the garden with some goat cheese… very tasty…

then I started gathering stuff… clothes, food, birthday presents… put as much into the trunk as I could so that there is less to do in the morning… getting picked up from the office to head out, so need to be organized first thing…


always giggle when I pack as I remember my beloved… he had a great ability to get any vehicle packed in the most efficient way, but he always had to add a grocery bag or two filled with all of his final bits and pieces of clothes or whatever last minute things he felt were needed;-)…

possibly I am starting to take after him, lol…

thought one bin was going to be enough but now have a bag filled with foodstuff, another with a beach blanket and expect to fill another with my travel items for the car…

we shall see…

forty-seven years ago on this day I married the love of my life…

the years we had together were filled with many memories, two children, and three grandchildren…

for the last five years I have celebrated the forty-one plus years we shared together, alone…

still not sure if I should be celebrating, but not commemorating the day at all doesn’t seem right either…

some years I have stayed home and had a quiet day remembering some of the highlights… some years I’ve spent time with my daughters…

this year I was up and out of the house by 5:45 on the way to Kenora to watch rowing at the Canada Summer Games with my grandson…


had lots of treats in amongst the watching… 

still have many of the questions I pondered a few years back… not sure I will ever have the answers…

on our way to the car after the Canada Summer Games Opening Ceremonies I took a few pictures of Emptyful…

I see it all the time, but usually in the daylight, so it was lovely to see it as the lights were more visible…


the kids got a kick out of it too…


the colours change quickly…

we often enjoy sitting near it during lunch as the mist is quite refreshing, particularly on hot sunny days…
