been busy in the kitchen…

I finally used the new steamer basket that I ordered from IKEA… it worked beautifully in the Instant Pot to hard boil some eggs…

it is an easy way to cook them and they always turn out great…

also made crackers from the Oh She Glows app on my phone… they are very tasty and do not have any flour in them…

this is the second time I’ve made them and they came out crisper as I thinned them out more than the first time…

ruthless…

planted the first of the seeds… spent time one day getting the containers set up… most of them have lids so they will be like little greenhouses…

used a couple of egg cartons for the grape tomatoes…

last year I popped some tiny wrinkled tomatoes into a bit of soil and they did very well, so I have decided to try again this year;-)…

I have learned to be ruthless and will remove some from each container once they start growing…

on Saturday, I spent the majority of the day outside…

did a bit of garden planning… had to bring out one of my beloved’s measuring tapes to do some checking of sizes of planters…

he had many, many measuring tapes… I have given a number of them away, but there are still a few around the house and in the garage…

put out a lounger, swept part of the back deck, topped up the hot tub and sat in the sun and read…

lovely way to spend time…

those big girl pants are fitting more comfortably all the time…

yesterday, in the early evening, the power went out… it was still light so I sat in the quiet and finished a book… then I went in search of flashlights and candles in case I needed them… found both and had them set out in each room so I would be ready when it got dark…

after about forty-five minutes the power came back on… Google turned all the lights on and the fish tank pump started burbling…

I turned on the tv which came on and after a few seconds would say the connection was lost… same thing for the one upstairs…

I decided to go to bed and see if it was more cooperative in the morning… unfortunately it wasn’t…

so instead of freaking out and calling my son-in-law, I went down to the router, turned it off, once I figured out which plug to use, and waited… plugged it back in, and waited…

and then turned on the tv which was now perfectly happy…

I also put a label on the plug for the next time this happens…

way to go me;-)…

yesterday I got my appointment for my COVID vaccination… woohoo… was thrilled as the age limit has been going down very slowly… arranged for my grandson to drive me there and back when the day arrives…

so, for a treat, I ordered from my favourite Vietnamese restaurant – Pho Hoang… we used to go there after our aquasize class… in the before time…

the food always arrives quickly and is delicious…

I usually try to order enough for a couple of meals, so got my favourite shrimp summer rolls with the steak and brisket pho… ate the rolls with some of the pho broth…

I also ordered some rolled ice cream, although I only ate a third of it with my dinner… it was delicious;-)…

had a big bowl of pho today… and maybe finished the ice cream;-)…

had a lovely afternoon on the deck yesterday…

removed one of the feeding saucers and cleaned the table… that took a long time but it looked shiny when I was done… looks ready for a meal with the boys;-)…

then I sat in the sunshine and read… so lovely…

at the end of the afternoon I brought in the planters which I am going to use to start some seedlings…

looking forward to getting the planting started…

I gathering all the documents to send off to my accountant… this always reminds me of my beloved who really disliked dealing with income taxes…

I am very careful to put all of the pieces into a tax folder throughout the year so that it isn’t too hard to produce what is required, although a number of donation receipts weren’t ready as I had an issue with my printer…. it did take a bit of extra time to gather those up, lol…

had it all done last week, but then received an email with slightly different instructions… so I had to take everything out and remove items and add others, lol…

this first year of retirement there were a lot more T-things to collect… amazingly they were able to download all of those, so I didn’t need to include them in the envelope…

but then, off it went… glad to have that done…

just found out that my finance guy got the numbers right to keep me in the correct tax bracket and I will be getting a refund…

yay…

I’ve been thinking of how much harder this pandemic would be for me without my oldest grandson…

very early on I lent him my car with the agreement that he would do any errands that I needed…

since then, he has fetched and carried numerous items for me… he finds groceries that I can’t get from Save-On-Foods… he collects items I need to keep the fish happy… plants and bird seed have been delivered… and mail sent… he has also brought his brother over to mow and shovel…

on the few occasions that I needed to drive somewhere, he has brought the car for me and then picked it up when I was done…

today he came by with a few hard-to-find items including flowers, and then moved some planters for me…

he collected the summer tires, we visited for a while, planned a time when he will bring the shoveler over, and off he went…

I am blessed;-)…

went through my fabric stash and filled a laundry basket with pass alongs…

there was about a ten year period where I collected fabric to use to decorate tables, rooms, etc… enjoyed the memories of when the various pieces were used… laughed as I remembered a colleague who used to call them my rags…

this basket had been filled to overflowing and still has quite a few items in it that I couldn’t let go, including a number of scarves… so happy to also find a few items that I didn’t even know were missing, lol…

visited outside with a wonderful young woman who came by to collect the stash and always makes me feel great…

looking forward to seeing what she produces;-)…
