spent some time in the garden this morning pulling a few weeds…

trying to decide if this is really purple coneflower or a very big weed…

was picked up just after eleven and proceeded to watch four soccer games… 3 in Headingley and 1 in North Kildonan…

got to see all three boys play which was great fun…

started at Blumberg with the oldest… saw about half of his first game before having to leave for the next game… it was overcast and a bit windy… also fitted in some baby snuggles at this game with a young friend’s little one…

then the youngest, his daddy and I drove across town to his second game of the day at Anderson Park in North Kildonan… it rained for about ten minutes as his game began, but then cleared up…

got this great shot when he scored a goal… he is number 8…

the rest of the family turned up when the other game was finished…

then the two older boys, their mom and I had a pit stop at their house, checked out their new vegetable gardens, and headed back across town to the second game for the oldest, at Blumberg again

when that game was over, we moved down a few fields and watched the middle one play his game… he is number 20…

they are all good players and it was a great opportunity for me to see them all play…

the sun came out and it was rather warm for these last two games…

when the games were all over we went out for Chinese food to celebrate…

the little boys even tried the consume and liked it…

arrived home about 9:15… the boys had a hot tub and my daughter mowed the front yard…

played with the pond a bit, maybe saw one of the tadpole/frogs, and they headed for home…

after a very busy day I am going to bed…

what a wonderful morning…

walked to the Park and met my buddy… we had a lovely wander through the English and Leo Mol Gardens…

I do like Bleeding Hearts but don’t seem able to grow them, no matter where I put them…

a peony starting to open… made me think of the peonies that we dug out of our front flower bed when we moved into the house… I dislike ants and therefore didn’t want the peony bushes which are usually covered in them… discovered later that they were prize winners, lol…

the benches are back, and they are new… we sat and visited for a while on mine – well the one that my beloved and I would always rest on when we walked through the Gardens…

every time I am in the Gardens there are new plantings and things to see… great to be making regular visits and seeing the constant changes…

a momma duck and her babies popped into the water as we were circling the Duck Pond… so cute…

took a number of pics of lilacs… actually  one of every four, lol… quite a few were in the Gardens, but also saw them on my way to and from the Park…

they smell delicious… and they’re purple

time for a new page on my Chihuly calendar…

a nice one… looking forward to visiting the installations at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens in a few weeks…

gardens are such fun to visit and take photos in… amazing to me how many places I have travelled to in the last four years…

the other thing I took time to take a photo of this morning was the new stem and buds on the October orchid that I picked up from IKEA… the last blossom just fell off on Monday… I’ve had it since October… longest blooming orchid I have ever had…

seems like many of those in my extended circle are struggling with health issues…

keeping them in my thoughts during these difficult times

worked a bit late and while I was still there got a call from my oldest grandson…

he wondered if I wanted to go to his band concert tonight

we figured it out, they picked me up from the office, and off we went…

they are very good… this is the grade 10-12 band…

here is the grade 9-10 jazz band… the music was excellent… their director tells a story/joke when she introduces each piece… they are always very funny… although we never get them because she tells them in French, lol… tonight I think the person beside me was translating for the person on the other side of her…

always so pleased when I can fit this type of thing in… he is growing up so fast and when you look at him now you see a young man, not a kid anymore…

very happy he called and we were able to make it work…

had a lovely evening…

dinner with a most special woman to celebrate our friendship…

we sat on couches on a patio in the sunshine and traded gifts with one another…

she treated me to a beautiful purple bird feeder and a solar dragonfly for the garden…

for her I’d found a compact umbrella and wrapped it with a pretty scarf… she is one of the best wrappers I have ever come across, so I was feeling a bit of pressure to do a good job, lol… she thought it looked great, yay

had a virgin Caesar that had three olives in it… practically a meal…

followed that with a delicious pizza… tasty…

once I arrived home I found that two of the dahlias are breaking through the soil in one of the pots… very exciting…

ended the evening with three more special women… we shared stories of recent activities and had a picture presentation of one’s recent trip to the Galapagos Islands…

what a treat the evening has been…

I continue to be blessed with so many special people in my life…

only picture I took today, and that was at six, lol… funny how some days I take dozens of shots and others barely any…

was overcast with some sunny bits throughout the day but I didn’t sit out till I was working on supper…

have spent time over the last couple of days looking through our Alaskan cruise book…

took the trip three years ago with my daughter and son-in-law who were living on Vancouver Island at the time…

haven’t had the book out for quite a while and a Facebook memory reminded me of it… it was wonderful to relive all of the special moments… nearly every town we landed in had dozens of jewellery shops… too funny… saw some stunning scenery and had a great ride on a narrow gauge railway…

I love it when I am able to take the time to relive amazing events, as well as tiny little ones…

so lucky to see these beautiful blooming trees last week… they are stunning for such a short time and easy to miss…

early morning again, but chose a hot tub as I was awake anyway… even though it was overcast, the birds sang the entire time I was outside… lovely start to the day…

great brunch with friends at a location I hadn’t been to yet… nice… also good to catch up…

my daughter and I went to Shelmerdine to pick up the last few plants for the garden… so happy to get the butterfly bush and milkweed… while we were there picked up four shubunkins for the pond…

these should encourage the monarchs to visit the garden this summer… hoping my grandson comes by tomorrow so he can dig these in, lol…

although all the rain has been a bit of a downer for me, all of the plants are very happy… they’ve grown tremendously in just a week…

the fish went into the winter condo as we are waiting for the tadpoles to turn into frogs before they move out to the pond

ended the day weeding – a tiny bit – and reading in the garden…

never did rain… ended up a great day…

met a friend for a walk around the English and Leo Mol Gardens this morning…

the Park is about a twenty minute walk from my house, but I had an appointment after so took the car… probably took me twenty-five minutes to drive there…

there was set-up going on for Sunday’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic, and the usual entryways were all blocked off…

eventually I made it to where I wanted to be, found a place to park and walked a bit to get to the entrance of the Gardens…

the alliums were a bright welcome to the garden and there were gardeners everywhere…

these tulips were still beautiful… many are dropping their petals… it was great fun to spot the changes since last week when I was there…

these white lilacs were nearly done although they look a bit purple in this picture…

these hostas fill a good sized section of the garden…

before we headed off in our separate directions, took this picture by the Children’s Garden…

as I walked back to Shadow I came across one of the Canada Goose families taking a swim…

sure do love my Fridays…

rained off and on all night… had to take a few pictures of the potted hosta in the front yard…

the drops glittered beautifully… misty in the morning and it continued during the entire day, with a bit of rain off and on…

when I got home I took a few pictures of the gladioli which I picked up yesterday…

these are in my bedroom…

and these ones are in the living room… doesn’t even matter that it is a bit dull outside…

cannot believe that the IKEA orchid has a new stem with four buds on it…

how cool is that…
