another lovely day camping…

sadly, last night the water pump went on the boat and we had to paddle for at least a couple of kilometres to get back to the dock…

actually a wonderful speed for me as you can see and hear everything as you travel… the sunset was stunning and we got a tow for the last couple of hundred yards… just before dusk set in…

ended the evening with s’mores on the campfire…

today we went for a hike and the little guys, daddy and I went fishingfirst cast and the older one caught a good-sized Jack… while his daddy was filleting it, I caught a smaller one, but it jumped off at the dock… nothing for my son-in-law…

for our supper we had steak, lobster, lamb, baked potatoes, mushrooms, salad and Jackfish… we were celebrating the oldest who will turn 15 tomorrow…

finishing our day with a swim at the beach…
barely even missed the boat today…
what a wonderful time it has been… thinking about a campfire and sky filled with stars…

bit tired this morning because we were beside the people who partied till 2 in the morning:-(…

last night there was no internet service so I couldn’t post… this morning my daughter and I got our tea and coffee and walked down to the beach where the service was excellent… better late than never… on our way back my daughter removed the cover so the boat could finish drying out… was left uncovered before we came…

after breakfast we packed up and headed out in the boat for some fun with tubing, swimming and fishing…

saw two eagles flying by their nest on the other side of the lake…

my son-in-law caught a big pickerel, got it onto the back of the boat where it broke the line and jumped back into the water, taking his lucky lure with it… we felt very bad for him…

drive the boat slowly for a few miles… then the middle grandson drove with his daddy’s help – much faster…

had a lovely dinner of campfire baked potatoes, chicken and corn on the cob all cooked over the fire…

we are now fishing again in lovely calm waters…

sitting around the campfire tonight one of my grandsons asked how long it has been since I last went camping…

must be twenty plus years, lol…

it was lovely to sit and watch the fire while hot dogs and smokies were being cooked…

they always smell so tasty cooked on the open fire… and the potato salad I made this afternoon went well with them too…

looking forward to lots of fun over the next three days…

now we are going for a walk to see if I can find some internet so I can post this…

been overcast and rainy for the whole day…

took a few minutes between showers to go out and get a few pictures… sadly my camera keeps making the morning glories blue rather than their actual purple so I didn’t include them…

fist thing I spotted was the bunny… getting bigger and so cute…

this canna has been flowering since July 17, twenty-one days… great addition to the pond…

first picture of the echinacea this year… happily they didn’t get pulled out in the spring as they look so much like a weed

throughout the day, I packed my bag for camping with the kids…

still room for a few last minute things… which is good, because there always seem to be items to tuck in… George had a penchant for adding additional bags of stuff at the last second…

spent a half hour on the treadmill and was careful about what I ate during the day…

hoping for clear skies tomorrow and over the weekend:-)…

first thing this morning I had a physical with my new doctor… I still go to CancerCare regularly so the process was quite simple…

he is very nice and down-to-earth… discovered that there is lots of diabetes in his family… bad for him, but good for me…

the great news is that I don’t have to poke myself unless I am not feeling well… he was pleased with my blood sugar numbers and very impressed with the printed summary I brought from my UltraMini, lol… he hadn’t seen one before… he was also very impressed with the fact that I had brought my A1C number down from 8.7 in November to 6.2 in March through diet and exercise… hoping today’s blood tests will show it even lower…

he’s into technology and we talked about how great the MyFitnessPal app is… he uses it as well…

the not-so-good news is that he wants me to lose more weight… going to start with fifteen pounds, although he would like twenty-five…

talked about taking drugs, but we will discuss it again when I see him in 3 months…

took myself out for breakfast once I was done… had an egg Benedict at Perkins

didn’t even feel that uncomfortable being there on my own…

once home, spent some time in the garden before the rain started…

must have been fifty sparrows in the garden at once… think they were filling up on food and water before the weather changed…

identified a wood frog as the guest in the bathtub pond…  put a board in to act as a bridge in case it wanted to get out… previously we’d only had Leopard frogs…

happily there were four morning glory blooms today…

after lazing around all day yesterday thought I better get out and about today… two lovely morning glories in the garden…

had a great walk to the Park and around the Gardens… bit of a breeze and the temperature was in the low 20s…

some of my favourite shots… water lilies…

water drops on hostas…

hydrangeas…

the very last bloom on the rose standards…

pretty dahlias…

boxwood going in where the lilacs were…

a few geese at the Duck Pond… last time I was there in the daytime, there weren’t any…

the river is quite low… not too many weeks ago you couldn’t see this island at all…

on my way back I went to the grocery store to pick up eggs and milk…

as I was walking home from there, I thought about how far I have come in the last few years… I never went anywhere by myself… George and I travelled together all the time… I would walk to the Park occasionally, but would meet him there to wander through the Gardens or have a meal… I don’t think I ever walked to the grocery store…

now I walk over to the Park often, and even to the grocery store, without a second thought… still not so fond of eating out on my own but continue to push myself to do it…

a desire to be healthy and those big girl pants

except for a few chores, I have spent the entire day in the garden

moved from chair to chair and from sunny to shady areas and back…

watched the critters

besides this one, which practically joined me in my chair, there were red squirrels, bluejays, chickadees, sparrows, butterflies, dragonflies, bumblebees, with some wasps and mosquitoes….

the morning glories were glorious… always seems to me that they are lit from within

for a good part of the day I had yoga pants and a sweater on… usually I sit in the shade but was forced to move into the sunlight to warm up a few times…

when I wasn’t watching the wildlife around me, I was reading, napping, or eating… not too many steps in today, but I have plans to spend some time on the treadmill once I go in…

made a lovely salad for lunch with leftovers from last night’s supper…

turned out delicious…

after realizing last night that there is less light each day I decided to enjoy every moment of it today…

and it has been quite delightful

out and about this morning… picked up painting supplies so my daughter can paint the front and back doors… they are purple, but very faded so she is going to freshen them up for me…

also picked up some gray trim paint to go around the back door and patio door… will look lovely and fresh when this is done…

right now the paint is peeling horribly…

thrilled today to see a morning glory from the deck…

to see the others I had to be in the garden area…

spotted two of the tiny tomatoes starting to turn colour, oh yay!

looking forward to eating them soon…

yesterday I purchased some fresh green and yellow beans which we included with our dinner tonight, although only my daughter and I eat them…

also picked up the fixings for steak and lobster dinner today… that was usually our anniversary splurge… amazingly, all of the grandkids like lobster already… don’t think our girls even got to taste it until they were in their teens, lol…

dinner was great and the lobster delicious… lobster is fine for me, but that butter, not so much…

now I am sitting in the garden, with a blanket on, watching a red squirrel do acrobatics to get seeds out of the bird feeder…

it had been there for ages, but as soon as I went to take the picture it darted away, lol…

been a busy day, and the light is fading… 9:40 and I had to put a light on in the garage to put things in their places…

forty-five years ago today I married the love of my life… we had a wonderful journey…

this is the fourth year that I have been on my own… doesn’t get much easier, but I have spent the day with my daughter and grandsons and focussed on the many memories of fun times…

there was horseback riding… for some of us… one young person decided they weren’t going so I climbed down off my horse and waited with him…

miniature golf… for all of us… George had enjoyed playing this course

and go-cart racing… not for me, lol… I did think about the last time we came here when I squeezed into the little second seat and screamed all the way around the course while George laughed as he drove…

supper out topped off a great day…

last night I slept under the full (blue) moon on the deck… good thing I did because it looks like it is going to rain tonight…

barely any mosquitoes:-)…

last night I spent some time on the deck trying to get a good shot of the full, blue moon

this is one of the few that turned out… also took a few pictures of the light coming through the gate…

set my alarm for 5:45 am which was going to be the height of the full moon… woke up at 5, so went out and got this shot…

back to sleep for an hour or so and when I got up, took a few photos of the morning glory...

took some with my camera as well, but they turned out blue, not the actual purple of the flower…

spent the day with two of my grandsons and the dog… we talked about grandpa while we were having our breakfast at the “A”…

later one mowed the lawn and the other started picking up some of the mulch because now we are going to lay down landscape fabric and put the mulch back down… should have done that in the first place, lol…

got a lovely shot of a beautiful dragonfly this afternoon…

great day…
