I’ve been getting my Friday dinner for most of December and into January from Modern Plate Catering…
a number of weeks ago, when it was delivered, Curtis, the delivery person, asked if I had salt and then sprinkled it on my steps and sidewalk, which were covered in ice… how kind was that;-)… it is so nice to get to know the members of businesses, particularly in these trying times… the next week he brought salt with him!
today, when he and Lindsay dropped off my dinner, he had already shovelled the steps before I opened the door… he was prepared to shovel the sidewalk as well, but I told him not to…
good customer service is so important and makes me try harder to use good companies again and again;-)…
one of my advent treats was an email (31 Days of Gifts) that comes every day with different things in it…
the second day included a Spotify playlist…
I spent a lovely evening sitting in the living room, enjoying the tree lights and listening to the playlist, as I read a novel on my tablet…
the best thing about the list is that it showed me the option of where to play it… previously, I was only able to play on the device in the room where I was… now I can play it anywhere or everywhere…
sounds lovely when it is playing all through the main floor…
a friend dropped off an item she had picked up for me and we had a short chat… she by her car, and I on the steps with my mask on…
time online on the laptop searching and ordering various things… maybe even some Christmas presents…
had a lovely conversation with my Winnipeg son-in-law who then FaceTimed me and maybe got the timer working, lol… fingers crossed…
and it worked… I had read the directions and tried it a few times before talking with him… he is the timer-whisperer, lol…
also spoke with my Ottawa son-in-law who helped me out with a different issue…
I was on a call and the bell rang… my neighbour brought me a cute little tin filled with fresh baking;-)… woo hoo… and I gave her some books which were needing a new home;-)…
I am now answering the door with a mask on all the time, not that the doorbell rings very often, lol…
final event was a delivery from Save-On-Foods with needed groceries… early in the pandemic, it was taking 2 weeks to get groceries once ordered… then it was down to the next day, but now that we are going back into a more serious lockdown, it is taking 4 or 5 days… so blessed to have this option… now I just need to plan a little further ahead…
our BS group met for dinner in the garden to celebrate a birthday…
I spent a good portion of the day ensuring that there were enough chairs available and physically distanced… it was very warm and the sun was shining in most of the garden…
in the end, we ate on the deck as it was shaded, lol… had dinner and dessert delivered and it was tasty…
after dinner we moved to the garden and carried on our visit…
took a very distanced photo as we usually commemorate special times together and I used my phone as the remote to take the shot…
although we video call each Monday night it was lovely to be together again in person…
for five days I have been fed by others… what a wonderful treat… the majority of time I am fine with cooking, but some days I particularly miss my beloved, because he would often take a turn preparing our food…
the variety and complexity of meals was amazing… we had crepes, with freshly made blueberry sauce; spatchcock chicken with potato salad, pan stuffing and green beans; sausages and toast; hot dogs with onions; steak, baked potatoes and salad; bacon, eggs and toast; pork tenderloin, rice and roasted cauliflower; homemade enchiladas with guacamole and homemade sour cream; and the most tasty almond bars and Rice Krispie squares… plus many snacks…
my friends are both excellent cooks and they had nearly as much fun preparing the food as we had eating it…
my contribution was dishwashing, lol… and they use Dawn, which makes bubbles if you squeeze it;-), which I did, numerous times… I may have to switch to Dawn because the bubbles bring me such happiness…
I am glad to do dishes because it doesn’t involve any complicated activity and saves the cooks from cleanup after all their work to produce a meal;-)…
on Sunday as it was raining out a bit I came into the house and decided to do another of the puzzles from the Brain Games Sticker by Number In The Garden book that was one of the treats in the package that arrived from my daughter last Friday…
it included a number of items and was one (or two!) of my Advent All Year parcels:-)… she is trying to only go to the Post Office occasionally… besides the fun sticker book, there was a Chihuly postcard to colour, a Soma Coconut chocolate bar, a very cool magnetic bookmark, two face masks and a chocolate tasting!
pretty fine haul… we’d been expecting it since Tuesday and each day were disappointed when it didn’t arrive…
her app told her it had arrived and she texted and called me to check the mail as she didn’t want the chocolate to be out in the sun for too long, lol… she was on the phone as I brought it in and we had a lovely visit as I opened each piece of the package… right after we got off the phone, I did the first puzzle – a vase filled with lilacs, which we both love…
since then I’ve used the bookmark, eaten some of the chocolate bar but haven’t started on colouring the postcard… I haven’t been out yet so haven’t used the face masks, which one of her good friends made for me…
once she knew I had received the package she emailed me instructions on the chocolate tasting, which she had also sent to 3 friends in Winnipeg… I think we’ve also decided to do a Skype or Google Duo together for the chocolate tasting… should be fun…
