had a lovely time today at the Habitat For Humanity Garden Party…

one of our colleagues was the chair of the planning committee so some of us from the office attended and brought our daughters…

space looked amazing, food was good, and there were wonderful silent auction items, with a one in a hundred chance to win a trip for two to anywhere WestJet flies…

we didn’t win anything but it was all in support of the organization so were happy to take part…

George was always interested in Habitat although he never did get an opportunity to attend one of the builds…

lovely way to spend a Sunday…

some of the centre pieces were calla lilies in tall vases or lit branches…

and the cake pops from Starbucks were tasty and looked beautiful as well…

promised myself that I would gather up all the tax information today so I could get it to my fabulous accountant…

spent time going through files, folders and the mail to be sure I had all the necessary bits and pieces…

hope I found everything…

then I decided to try and figure out which box had been unchecked when I was on the phone with the MTS people a couple of weeks ago – which meant that every time I opened email on the desktop all the email vanished off my phone…

probably spent thirty minutes searching to find the darn thing… finally gave up and called for help… lovely young woman was very helpful and we found it within about fifteen minutes… yay…

felt like those big girl pants were on for a good part of the day…

four am this morning marked the birth of our first daughter, in 1978…

had barely left my desk for a minute the day before, as I tried to finish up a huge report for one of my colleagues…

we got home and then headed to the hospital, because I wasn’t feeling one hundred percent… expected them to look me over and send me home…

got there around four pm, and she was born twelve hours later at four in the morning…

not too big a deal… except that she was six weeks early…

thankfully she was fine, and for her second birthday present we brought her home a little sister

20140321-212708.jpg she sent me this picture today as she, her husband and a good friend of theirs were on the train to Montreal to celebrate their birthdays…

life certainly changed for George and I from the moment she was born…

being a parent has been and continues to be a remarkable experience…

so, when I was at the eye doctor yesterday he mentioned that blepharitis is a chronic condition…

don’t remember hearing that before… maybe someone told me and I blocked it…

we went over the steps to help keep it under control and rather than take a brochure I took this photo…

20140320-214247.jpg

good news was that I was able to pick up the eye cleaning pads that I’d been looking for…

now I have to follow a new process every day to ensure the flare-ups don’t happen… but, at least I can do something about it…

rushed home from work, opened the garage to take the car out to go for an eye appointment…

and found the car was covered in snow from the storm on Sunday, when we had it out to barbecue in the garage…

quickly cleaned it off and headed to the appointment… they had booked it a year ago when I was there, but I was not on their schedule today… very kindly they said they would fit me in, but it did mean that I had to wait… probably for about 45 minutes…

left there about 6:30 and went to get a haircut… when I got there was told there were three people ahead of me… decided to wait, thinking maybe 40 minutes or so…

left there at 8:30…

still hadn’t had dinner…

drove down my street to discover that the plows had been down on their first run, but had not cleared out the driveway and there is a hill about a foot high and a couple of feet deep…

parked on the street and then spent half an hour shovelling an area that I guessed the car would fit through…

didn’t want to leave the car on the street in case they hit it as they were working at cleaning the driveways…

happily I got it into the driveway and parked in the garage without a problem…

finally got some supper and while I was eating I heard the plows coming down the street to clean out the driveways, lol…

happy I had these beautiful daffodils at my desk today… they were a fundraiser for the Cancer Society…

just this minute realized that I hadn’t closed the garage door… yikes…

so, thirty four years ago today, our youngest daughter was born…

we made it to the hospital around nine in the morning and she was born just before noon…

George had just arrived at work when I called to tell him to come home… my parents were already on the way over…

George picked me up and we were headed to the hospital when he asked if we had time to stop for cigarettes…

by that time the contractions were between two and five minutes apart so I was feeling we really needed to get to the hospital…

we got there and it wasn’t too long until she was born…

the next day my tubes were tied and her sister came to see her… she wasn’t quite two and I remember she arrived in a cute dress and her black patent shoes… she was happy to meet her sister, but I was rather nervous of those shoes considering I had just had surgery…

we came home the following day… to this house that I still live in…

have enjoyed telling this story for many years, although it wasn’t so funny at the time, lol…

here she is on Sunday when we celebrated her birthday with barbecued steak and lobster and banana cream pie, which turned out to be frozen…

through the window you can see the snow storm…

it always amazes me how quickly the time flies by… one minute they are minutes old and the next they are in their thirties with a family of their own…

St Patrick’s Day… all about green…

wore green clothes and took a green treat for my colleagues…

was talking with someone about all the steps you have to go through when someone dies…

still wondering how you find someone who knows what you need to do… it felt like I bumbled my way through the process and luckily made it without any huge mistakes…

the list of what to do from the Funeral Home covered a few of the things that had to be done, but was certainly not complete for my situation…

so much of it had to do with another green thing – money…

felt like every organization I was in touch with wanted some…

insurance companies that wanted specific information which had to come from the doctor and which had to be paid for… Land Titles, who needed me to pay them to change the registration of the house… the leasing company that required a safety check so that the car could be put into my name… and so on…

when someone dies, a lot of green gets used up…

spent time doing some spring cleaning over the weekend…

got a Corning ware pot cleaned which has been covered in grunge for months…

then I emptied out a hall closet, packing up nearly everything that was in it to give away… yay me…

put away some last bits of Christmas decorations, finally… seems easier to do these jobs when I have helpers

finally when my boys were here we took six boxes of books to the fire station for the Children’s Hospital Book Mart…

the day was cold, but sunny… until about 4, when snow started falling and blowing… at some points during dinner we couldn’t see the house across the street…

before the kids left they had to shovel the sidewalk so I don’t have to walk through a huge pile of snow in the morning…

and I am wearing my new bracelet which my grandson made especially for me…

took this picture from upstairs this morning… sun was shining

20140315-213941.jpg you can see how the snow is melting on the deck rail and even on the bench…

went for dim sum with the kids and then we went to pick up a bit more wool and of course we found a few other bits and pieces… I got a ceramic knife and look forward to testing it out tomorrow…

stopped at the mall for a while and when I finally got home I had a nap…

later I had the left over dim sum for my dinner…

last night I had a lovely hot tub… it wasn’t very cold and clouds were floating across the sky while the nearly full moon shone brightly… lovely and quiet as the jets didn’t come on… nice treat…

can you believe what you can see in this picture…

20140314-211154.jpg it is the top of the slate waterfall rock… and it has been completely covered in snow for weeks…

even though it has been a bit cold out, the sun is warm, even hot, when it shines…

every day I can see that the snow has melted in the backyard… of course, there is a lot of it that still needs to melt, lol…

looking at the picture you can see that all the snow on the rail of the deck is gone already… yay…

every time I look at the crocus I imagine the time when I’ll be able to walk outside and see spring flowers blooming…
