I’ve been watching the amaryllis that I purchased in early November…
it is now in the sleigh with some of the snow people and it seems to be doing okay… I added some of the solar lights in and around the melt (group of snow people)… I kind of like it…
both of the little babies on the sides of the main bulb have started to shoot up, and even the original bulb is starting to have a bit of green peek out…
as you enter the Mediterranean biome there are dozens of amaryllis in various stages… some nearly done, while others are fully open… many with multiple petals…
absolutely gorgeous…
and then you step into the Babs Asper display area… twelve hundred orchids in one place;-)… heaven…
the Blooms in Winter display is so lovely, a perfect place to enjoy the beauty of orchids…
there are a number of arches to walk through and benches to sit on and enjoy the views…
enjoyed the Mediterranean biome… as soon as I enter I am reminded of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights… I think it is all the Tyndall stone, the spiral walkway, and the industrial looking steel…
the living wall is huge and amazing…
and the spiral begonia was so pretty…
the amaryllis are stunning…
it is lovely to have such a beautiful space to visit during the winter months…
last year I moved four amaryllis bulbs to the basement when they finished blooming…
I brought them up on Monday, gave them a good dose of water, and put them onto the dining room table…
a couple had already started to grow… one already had a green frond and there were a few with little bits of green starting…
I am turning them every time I feed the fish…
and this is how they look today;-)…
they are shooting up very quickly… and I am excited to see what will happen with them… hoping they end up producing some flowers and not just leaves, lol…
I’m trying to laugh at the snow… it is that or cry, lol… laughing seems more sensible…
when I was out shovelling the sidewalks a few days ago, I walked up the driveway to check on the furnace vents…
and found them nearly covered with snow…
took a few minutes to get them cleared by tossing the snow into the middle of the driveway as I don’t need to get a car in and out of it… and there is nowhere else to throw it…
I was getting out of my jacket and heard a sound… when I turned and saw that one of the amaryllis had fallen off the table… there was mud on the carpet so I quickly picked it up… only to discover that the stalk had bent over and the blooms were hanging down… I got scissors, cut it and put the blossoms into a vase… after sweeping up the dirt I got a few pictures…
I guess it was getting too heavy to hold its head up;-(…
lots of activity… after that I had some time reading in the sunshine…
