Maui, day four…

I went snorkelling today and it felt like the first time ever…

I’ve been in Mexico, but with terrible equipment, and in Alaska, where it was cold and we were dressed in wetsuits…

so today was amazing… and a bit scary at the beginning… I kept feeling as though I was going to stop breathing through my mouth and swallow the ocean…

there were lots of waves and I’d been hoping for calm… took a while, but eventually I got the hang of it…

my daughter hated the mouthpiece but stayed with me and showed me all kinds of fish, large and small; sea urchins; and coral… as always she spots things way before I do…

it was a bit like swimming in a fish tank…

when we came out of the water I could barely walk, lol… it is strenuous work;-)…

we left everything in the car except for our chairs and the snorkelling gear so there weren’t any pictures at the time…

afterwards, we brought the rest of our stuff down… had a picnic lunch and enjoyed people watching for a while under our umbrella… the wind came up and eventually we had to put the umbrella down, at which point we realized how hot it was and that it was time to leave… just before we left I took a few photos of the area…

the above photos are from the entire beach, clockwise from the left to the right…

this is the section where we snorkelled… the fish were all around the rocks…

here we are having some fun just before we left;-)…

what a wonderFULL day…

put my toes in the ocean… in Kahului and Kihei… so amazing;-)…

saw flowers everywhere… including red hibiscus hedges and flowering trees… enjoyed so many… just got a few closeups of some outstanding blooms that I came across…

tried, and loved, shave ice… had thought the concept was odd, so when we had one and it was so good, really got why people stand in long lines to get some;-)…

watched the sun set over the beach… some of us were chilly as the wind picked up a bit as the show was getting started…

a great day to be alive and on an adventure…

final day of our camping trip…

packed up the camper and dropped it in the parking lot by the beach… then we went boating and enjoyed some beach time…

friends came out from the city to spend a few hours on the boat and there was tubing, including someone getting a foot in the face which is going to turn into a black eye, lol…

got the boat out of the water, had our last meal together at the Falcon’s Nest Cafe, hooked up the camper and drove on down the road…

a great time… took a few photos of the various groups that made up the ten days…

my daughter, two younger grandsons, the dog and I… then my son-in-law, grandsons, the dog and I… finally all of us together;-)… this slightly crazy picture as the youngest was putting on his shirt and everyone was talking at the same time was an example of our time together, lol…

last night we spent about an hour laying in the boat watching the Perseid Meteor shower… the boys gave up and went to bed after about an hour, but I watched for nearly three hours… some of them were amazing…

this morning the boys got up around 9:30, had cereal for breakfast, packed up snacks and then we headed over to the beach…

only the second time I’ve been in the water since Friday, lol… very refreshing…

back to the camper for lunch of peanut butter and raspberry jam sandwiches…

a relaxing afternoon of playing at the park and sitting around the campsite… much cooler than yesterday, which was a relief…

the daddy arrived and brought fresh supplies and we sat and read for a while… had a great supper of chicken, cooked cauliflower, gravy, raw cucumbers and carrots…

it rained for a few minutes as we did the dishes, but now we have a roaring fire going…

today we were able to sleep in… lovely…

I was up fairly early and had tea outside as I was waiting for the crew to wake up…

eventually we had pancakes – regular for the boys and potato for us… along with some breakfast sausages…

a few jobs around the site and everyone else went to the beach…

I read and napped while they were gone… once they were back we walked around the campground checking out the various sites and then went for ice cream…

we had supper together and then my daughter headed back to the city…

we have prepared a little nest in the boat and are hoping to watch the meteor shower, if we can stay awake…

as usual I was up and on the balcony by 6… bit of early morning fog then…

but by 6:45 it was nearly gone… called the other daughter as today is her birthday…

had breakfast around 8 and then we headed to the beach in front of the hotel… spent the day there… we beachcombed, jumped in the waves, rode on boogy boards, relaxed, got henna tattoos, drank piña coladas, shopped for signs, jewellery and sea shells…

and parasailed…

my daughter took the shots from up in the air…

I got to go on my own… such fun…

we spent a final hour in the pool and headed to our rooms to rest and get ready for dinner at the Mexican restaurant…

enjoyed our supper and are all headed to bed…

all that fun wears a person out, lol…

here’s today shell collection… that we found…

and the purchased ones which came from the island just across from the hotel…

been another full day…

up early, took down the tent and packed the vehicles…

then we headed to the beach for our last day of water fun…

went fishing to start the day off… son-in-law caught two Jackfish which we tossed back as they weren’t very big… amazing how long the little boys last without complaining about being bored…

then we spent time on the beach as numerous family members arrived… it was really hot… the shore was crazy full of boats and people, although there were not nearly as many watercraft on the lake… 


saw a few native water lilies as we entered the channel…

four boats and a seadoo crossed the lake together to the Death Swing, where my daughter cut her heel on the propeller, bled a bit and it will be irritable for a while whenever she bends her ankle, but she’s okay…

great fun watching people swing off the ropes into the water… 


there were probably fifty boats there… great calm area for a refreshing swim…

saw an eagle as we headed back across the lake…


last few minutes of our ride across…


not sure if I’ll get any more in this year…

dinner at The Nest and heading home…

spent a couple of hours stargazing from the comfort of my bed… worst night of our entire trip for noise… people beside us talked loudly until about 2 am and then their baby cried for quite a while after that… to top it off they woke up early and made lots of noise… sounded like they were there for the week so we were very happy to be leaving, lol…

then we had a busy day… got up, had a quick breakfast, packed up, spent some time on the boat with friends… and then headed to Falcon Lake for our last night of camping… hot day…

set up one tent and went to the beach and met with family and did some boating…


had a little tour around the lakefront and took the boat back out of the water… lovely ride down the canal to get there…


rode back to the site in the boat on the trailer, which was kind of fun… ate our dinner around 10, as it was getting dark,  and we are now heading to bed…

well, after a bit more stargazing;-)…

well, when I got back to the campsite after posting my blog last night, I discovered that my son-in-law had caught a fish… that was exciting…


after supper we sat around the fire and were attacked by a zillion mosquitoes… really… this is what the perfectly clean sink looked like in the morning…


followed some mallards around the beach early…


they didn’t want to play with me…

got a few pictures of the beach area…


spent most of the day sitting around and reading… relaxing… sunny and warm…

headed into the city late afternoon to pick up the boat… happy to have it with us and looking forward to some water activities over the next few days…

yesterday the boys deigned to all sit together and let me take a few pictures… in the hammock – where everyone wants to be – you can either look toward the lake…


or into the campsite…


we have arrived and the boat is settling in…

another lovely day…

just a few photos of our activities…

started the morning with these great omelettes made in a sandwich bag placed in boiling water… didn’t take long and there was no mess… yay Pinterest…


prepared a picnic and headed to the beach for a wonderful afternoon… everyone made it into the water and enjoyed the waves and relaxing with books, the odd bit of Pokemon Go, or doing nothing, lol…

found a cool caterpillar which entertained all of us…

got a picture of the sky just after the eagle soared overhead…

found this tiny flower and had fun taking a few shots…

fit in a nap, and then found these…

reminded us of picking blueberries when we visited Uncle Bill and Aunty Vivian in Clearwater Bay…

supper cooked on the fire… looked tasty… and it was delicious…

this afternoon we picked up a fishing licence for me… was so excited that it was free because I am over 65…

after supper we went fishing…

while my daughter and I were casting, two Park Rangers came by to check us out… I said right away that I wanted a picture of me showing my licence to them… 

problem was it was in my wallet which I had left in my car at the campsite… luckily they believed me and we took a picture of me holding her licence, lol…

ending the evening sitting around the fire roasting marshmallows for s’mores as we watch the stars come out…
