Maui, day two…

we went to bed early last night because we were exhausted…

this morning we woke up twenty minutes before the sunrise… so we dressed quickly, and headed out to an iron bench on the property…

it was cool and very windy but we had fun watching ships and outrigger canoes as well as the sun shining on the clouds, lol…

we came in just as it began to rain… and then we saw five rainbows, one after the other, moving across the sky…

we took it gently and went to Whole Foods for snacks and breakfast items over the next week… always fun to see what items are available at the store in different countries… fresh juice and the view…

lunch and off to Paia… we wandered the town, saw surfers and large waves, tried mahi-mahi and had a quiet drive back…

we stopped for some avocado toast and packaged up a bit of salt for the eggs we picked up earlier… reminded both of us of George’s mom always slipping any excess jam or ketchup or whatever into her bag when we took a trip to the east coast many years ago, lol…

couple of great things over the last few days…

yesterday I was on the phone with MTS to check out some information about my cell phone…

the woman I spoke with was ever so helpful and didn’t try to upsell me during our discussion… really appreciated that…

at the end of our call she asked if there was anything else and I mentioned that I’d like to talk about the cost of all my services… I pay a lot for one person… she transferred me to another person…

that person noted that we’ve been loyal customers for over forty years and was impressed with that… he was able to provide an excellent discount for a whole year which made me exceptionally pleased… in the process, gave me a good discount on the house phone… I know, I know, how many of us are there left, lol…

made me happy…

and today, I received my tax information back and was pleased to discover that once again I am getting a refund… phew… my accountant has figured out exactly what I need to have deducted so that I don’t end up owing money at the end of the year…

the process of submitting them is so easy now… I courier the papers to the office, receive the documentation electronically, sign it, scan it, and send it back electronically as well, and then it is sent to CRA…

I think back to when my beloved did our taxes… he really disliked doing them and we were always searching to find all the documents we needed and do all the calculations… then put it in an envelope and mail it off, or drive to the Tax Office and drop it off because it was kind of late, lol…

I’ve found a system that helps me gather everything so that when it is time to do them, all the bits and pieces of paper are together;-)…

hadn’t been in the hot tub for weeks… Sunday it was warm and I headed out… when I opened the cover I discovered that the water was only about halfway up the side… it was at the correct temperature so I got in and sat on the floor so that I was mostly under water…

then the jets came on and I got splashed… a lot… didn’t stay in too long after that…

dried off and figured out how to get water into it… had to do some fancy footwork to get the vent open so I could run the hose through it…

last night I was out for a hot tub under the nearly full moon… so nice… might have heard some geese…

what a treat to be back there…

a few days ago as I was driving home from work, I came across three different cars with vanity plates…

made me think of my beloved… whenever we would spot a vanity plate he would usually be the one to figure out what it said…

of course I couldn’t take photos of the plates, but this morning as I was walking down the street by the office I came across this plate;-)…

I figured this one out, lol…

spent some time with my finance guy recently… the funny thing is that his name is George, lol… first time I told someone I was talking to George about money, they gave me a very odd look…

as I get older it feels like dealing with RRSPs, Tax-Free Saving Accounts, and various pensions gets more complicated…

there are always papers to sign, numbers to calculate and things to consider…

as time has gone on I think that I understand the ins and outs of the funds, but you never know…

on this seventh anniversary of losing my beloved, I started the day by going to Safeway and buying flowers and an orchid for work… flowers for the front of the office and some for my space…

was very happy that they had orchids because the last few times I’ve been there haven’t been any…

my beloved always bought me flowers and orchids, particularly in the winter which has often been a difficult time for me…

at noon, I ran out and picked up samosas to share for our lunch… this was something he would do every now and then… seemed like a lovely way to remember him and what made him so special…

it was a great meal, with salad, veggies, hummus, cheese and grapes added by my colleagues…

as it is Shrove Tuesday, pancakes were on the menu for supper and I made potato pancakes, a nod to the world’s best hash brown patties that he would make…

a good day with many lovely memories…

tomorrow marks 7 years since my beloved left this earth…

Google tells me that it is 2,555 days since that day…

I’ve been remembering some of the fun things we did during those last weeks…

you would think after seven years it would get easier…

but it doesn’t …

this is the last picture I took with him… it was Sunday, March 4, 2012… we had taken a drive around the Park so I could get some photos of the beautiful hoarfrost… this tree is on the drive to the Park… he had to stop in the middle of the road so that I could get the shot I wanted;-)…

yesterday I drove to and from work with a colleague…

carpooling is always more fun than driving on my own… I’ve carpooled with a number of people over the years… for years I rode with a good friend who worked close by… also with another colleague… and for many years my beloved drove me to and from work…

one of the best things is that I can take pictures, lol…

waited in the living room for my ride and got a photo of the very slow traffic on our way home…

at the end of the day I walked up the street in my heavy Canada Goose jacket, which kept me toasty warm… sadly the zipper on my usual Canada Goose jacket isn’t working properly so I’m wearing the heavier one…

looking forward to traveling with her tomorrow…

felt like I was wearing those big girl pants all day long…

this morning I went out into the backyard and shovelled the windrow outside the gate so that I could get the garbage and recycling bins into the back lane…

it has been weeks since I’ve taken it out…

put two bags beside it… not sure if they will take those or not…

I decided on pickerel for my supper… instead of the deep fried French fries that my beloved would make, and which were amazing, I baked them in the oven… a recipe from my grandmother… fish and chips was one of the regular suppers that he would make, particularly on swimming nights… makes me think that I need to get back to aquasize…

in 2013 the whole family travelled to Mexico in celebration of my beloved…

we had a great time and did many fun things…

this picture came up in my feed today…

we walked along the bottom of the sea to see stingrays… before we went down we told the staff that I am claustrophobic and might not be able to participate for the whole time…

I was afraid, but went ahead… they help you put on the helmet (that weighs about 60 pounds), and climb down a ladder until you reach the sea floor… then walk alongside a bit of a rail… the water was moving a lot and we had to hang onto the handrail… once we reached a certain spot they had us stop and look beyond the handrail… the staff were swimming around with treats and bringing some of the stingrays over for us to see and touch…

the top of them felt like sandpaper while the bottom was as soft as velvet…

I thought the divers came by to see me once or twice to be sure I was okay, but after we got out of the water the girls told me they were beside me every minute or so, lol…

after we were done I felt very brave and proud that I had actually done it…
