what a great evening…

met up with a group of friends and family for an early dinner at Hermanos to celebrate the graduate… we also toasted the dad on his birthday…

on to the Concert Hall for the graduation ceremony… there were many early birds like us who wanted to get great seats, lol…

we are so very proud of this young man, who moved from a French immersion school to a fully French school in grade nine, and in the process completed the International Baccalaureate program…

following the ceremony there was lots of photo-taking with proud friends and family;-)…

grandpa would be pleased and I am sure he was watching… I was happy to see that he was wearing my beloved’s high school ring and my mother’s chain;-)…

exciting to see where his next steps will take this very special young man…

this is a crazy busy few weeks for our family…

the oldest grandson is graduating from grade 12 next week so we’ve been deciding on gifts and doing some shopping… it’s taken a while but eventually he and I agreed on a leather briefcase/computer bag… he’s planning many more years of schooling so that seems like a great idea…

that same day is the dad’s birthday…

Thursday the middle one turns 13…

a few days after grad, the mom, dad and graduate are heading off on a trip to the east coast…

so there has been lots of collecting and shopping for that as well…

yesterday we picked up a sleeping mat for the grownups and then went in search of the bag for the graduate…

we found a number of options at Bentley and the one he chose is beautiful and had everything he wanted in it… much like his mom, he has expensive taste, lol…

but this will last him for many years, and hopefully he will remember the fun we had picking it out;-)…

then it was off to find a catfish rod for the soon to be thirteen year old… he got to pick a nice one, they added the line to it and we got a few other basics that he will need…

while we were there I got my fishing license… looking forward to time with the boys in the boat or on the dock;-)…

took some nice shots over the last few days… the cloud formation was very pretty last night… and this morning I took a few photos of the flowers that we picked up yesterday… one is quite beautiful, called starry sky… it is a petunia and I’m not fond of them but it was too beautiful not to bring home…

once I got home tonight I walked over to the Yafa Cafe to meet my buddies for a birthday dinner… we tried a number of items and enjoyed them all…

very early this morning, as I was waking up, I heard the geese fly overhead… what a lovely way to begin my birthday…

sunshine and warm temperatures also contributed to a great day…

had a rose and balloons and a card filled with lovely sentiments…

throughout the day texts came, phone calls of people singing happy birthday, emails, Facebook posts, a gift card…

all of which made me feel very special…

missing my beloved but wearing those big girl pants, lol…

and as I write this, more geese are flying overhead…

I truly am blessed…

been to a birthday party this afternoon… for someone who turned nine…

lots of people and tons of food…

the sad thing is that instead of boxes and bags there was just a pile of envelopes…

seems like it was just yesterday that he played with toys… he is the youngest, so likely we won’t be buying any more things to go in boxes and bags…

the most exciting thing was his cake… made by a family friend, it was a candy cake and drew everyone to the table like a magnet…

was fun to watch, lol…

today marks six birthdays without my beloved…

it always felt that he lost out because often his birthday and Christmas would be lumped together… particularly for the many years that we really lived hand-to-mouth…

for all of our family birthdays, the birthday person got to choose what we would have for dinner… for the last number of years we have had burgers, French fries, milkshakes and apple pie in his memory… he especially liked the burgers just down the street…

the first few years we Skyped with the out of town kids… one year we had a phone and an iPad so we could get both of them in the room with us…

last year everyone was busy so I had a quiet day remembering so many fun times we had over the years…

our plan was for the city kids to come over tonight but the momma is sick so they stayed home… wasn’t planning to connect with the out-of-towners but was able to FaceTime with my daughter while she had her supper…

I was going to stop and pick up groceries and then a burger, but it was miserable outside so in the end I drove straight home and then ordered a thali platter…

time with my BS buddies and now to bed… life has settled into a pattern and I wear the big girl pants more and more easily…

not sure if that is a good thing or not…

excellent day…

this morning the service person arrived and fixed the hot tub… hurray…

not sure if it will be up to temp tonight or tomorrow so that I can get in it…

bit of time playing on the computer and then lunch out with my BS buddies to celebrate a birthday…

wonderful time at Cafe Ce Soir… I had asparagus and shrimp soup; chicken liver pate with peppercorn white wine aspic; and pecan pie… the birthday girl had fun…

it is a lovely spot… small with fresh flowers on every table, attentive staff and delicious food… can’t get much better than that…

we had a nice chat with the owner/chef… those are his birkenstocks in the picture, lol…

and then, home for a nap;-)…

been busy since I got home…

had a brief rest and then a simple supper of fresh cucumbers with tiny tomatoes and basil from the garden with some goat cheese… very tasty…

then I started gathering stuff… clothes, food, birthday presents… put as much into the trunk as I could so that there is less to do in the morning… getting picked up from the office to head out, so need to be organized first thing…


always giggle when I pack as I remember my beloved… he had a great ability to get any vehicle packed in the most efficient way, but he always had to add a grocery bag or two filled with all of his final bits and pieces of clothes or whatever last minute things he felt were needed;-)…

possibly I am starting to take after him, lol…

thought one bin was going to be enough but now have a bag filled with foodstuff, another with a beach blanket and expect to fill another with my travel items for the car…

we shall see…

well this was fun…

two tiny babies turned up at the birthday party today…

I patiently waited my turn and then held this little bundle of snuggles for about an hour;-)… can still put any baby to sleep… it’s a gift… thanks to my son-in-law for taking these pictures as I was busy…

always fun when everyone gathers and it’s time to open presents…

it is different these days… at this age all they want, and get, is money… apparently he is wanting a game system… amazed that there is one they don’t have…

the gift from Aunty and Grandma was money for the big brother to drive all the boys to Baked Expectations for dessert… chocolate cake for breakfast is one of Aunty’s specialties;-)… can’t believe they are so grown up…

he is looking forward to a Paintball party, so really loved his paintball cake…

today is the first day of summer… and our middle grandson’s birthday…

I remember 12 years ago when my daughter was in the hospital… many babies were being born and she was doing fine so they kept her waiting while they delivered others… 

at 11:30 at night I told them we needed this baby born on this day… because it was the first day of summer… and I really wanted him born on that auspicious day;-)…

so they proceeded to bring in the doctor and our little guy was born just before midnight… what a wonderful memory…

this is early the next day when he got to meet his big brother…

this morning this dark sky followed me all the way downtown…

we had our first summer thunderstorm this afternoon… that same sky followed me home but now it is clear…

here’s the 12 year old out for a birthday dinner tonight…

time goes by amazingly quickly…
