last evening the orchid started to open…

this afternoon it was nearly all the way open…

what a treat… haven’t had one blooming for a few months…

yesterday I was enjoying the poppies in the English Garden… they were huge…
reminded me of some others I’ve seen recently…

… one of the blossoms as it was opening in our garden…
… a photo that my daughter sent me from Ottawa as she was taking a walk…
… the giant poppies at the Park…
… then there is the postcard I received in the mail…
… and finally, a shot of the sunlight shining on one of only four blooms this year…
my beloved and I have always loved poppies and seeing them makes me remember him and fun times in the garden…

today my grandson came over to move the rocks out of the flowerbed in an effort to make it easier for when the gardener is able to start work…

while I was over there I checked out the couple of poppies that have come up… we used to have many, many poppies in the garden, but over the last few years there have been fewer and fewer…

looks like there will be a couple of flowers… pretty exciting…
might be the last ones;-(…

so happy that the morning glories were saved…

while I was away my grandson came by a few times and watered them… they are in small planters so need lots of water…

I’d been waiting for them to flower for weeks and the first bloom only came out the day before I left on vacation…

they are blooming in and amongst the mandevilla which is also blooming like crazy…
flowers sure do make me happy…

been thinking about poppies…
over the last forty years we’ve always had poppies in the garden… some years there would be fifteen or twenty … other years, maybe three…
the spring following George’s death there were over fifty…
it was amazing and so beautiful… seemed like he was here with me…

this year there are plants, but not a single bloom…

first thing this morning I got a few pictures of the flowers blooming in the garden… happy to see the dahlia amongst the other blooms even in the cooler weather…

and was so excited when I drove up to the house at the end of the day to spot half a dozen flickers searching the front yard for snacks…

pretty good sightings for September 26th…

this morning before I left home I took some pictures of the October orchid… the one I got from IKEA last October… which has been blooming since I brought it home… except for a few weeks… it has been amazing…
it almost looked artificial as the blooms stayed perfect for months at a time… when it finally dropped the last blossom, a new branch emerged and these blossoms have been open for months as well…
my beloved brought me orchids on a fairly regular basis… some for home and some for my work space as well…
he also picked them up for some of my colleagues…
one of my colleagues is away this week and I am orchid-sitting… can’t remember if this is one that he picked up for her… anyway it has seven blossoms on it…
have made sure the light is on in the office and the blinds open… even put the heater on for a while…
it has been so long since it bloomed that we can’t remember what colour it is going to be…
very exciting, although I do hope it waits until her return before opening…
