last night I was quite excited to look out and see that the solar powered lights glowing…

  
that means the sun had been shining during the day…

  
really enjoying the sunlight as much as possible… today I was commenting on the sunlight streaming through the office windows…

was very pleased tonight when I arrived home and looked at the garage windows… had to get out my phone to take a few pictures…

  
a few years ago I was at a friend’s house and got some amazing shots of hoarfrost on her garage windows… so these pictures reminded me of that special evening when we decorated her living room for Christmas…

  
frost is amazingly beautiful…

as I walked up to the door my phone chirped with a text from another friend who had just cuddled up on her couch with a crocheted blanket I had made for her a year or so ago and wanted to tell me how she enjoyed it… 

lovely memories to finish off a long week…

this morning I put stones into the coffee table drawer and then went in search of the sea shells that came out of it just before Christmas…

can’t find them, lol…

in the process I emptied one entire box of angels into the give away collection…

after that, I spent hours in the computer room shredding documents, filing things and filling a couple of boxes with pass me overs…

this might look messy to you, but it is amazingly tidy, with a big pile of recycling just below it…

kids came over for supper with a couple of extras… there is one under the blanket on the floor, lol…

have a sleepover buddy tonight, and in the morning we are going to label each of the Christmas boxes so I won’t have this problem again, sigh…

sitting in the living room listening to Whitney Houston and writing my blog… haven’t been using the laptop but the kids helped me put my music on it tonight… Whitney was one of my Christmas presents…

this morning I spent quite some time upstairs on the desktop finding water lily pictures for the frames I bought the other day… happily I was able to find some that had gone missing, lol…

looking forward to getting them printed, framed and hung on the stairwell wall…

also need to choose a few for the upstairs hallway as Cyndi took a few pictures home with her for the new house…

had a hot tub, but didn’t stay out too long because one of the squirrels was in the neighbour’s tree and kept making the strangest sounds, almost like it had a cold, or was feeling sick… didn’t like the sound, so I came in, but I did enjoy the sunshine…

just before the kids arrived for our New Year’s dinner of steak and lobster, I took the decorations off the tree and put it away… the living room is back to normal although I haven’t taken the coloured balls out of the coffee table just yet…

this morning my Advent gift was a very glittery purple dragonfly… which flew right to the Christmas tree…

talked with the kids in Ottawa before they headed to the airport…

my son-in-law came by and we walked to the “A” for breakfast… lovely time… I held his arm for part of the walk as it was fairly icy… brought back memories of holding hands with my beloved whenever we walked anywhere…

got a call from Ottawa to say the flight was delayed and then another to say it was cancelled for today and they wouldn’t be flying home until tomorrow…

spent some time feeling sorry for myself, had a nap and went out for a few errands… the last I hope…

sat in the living room and watched the chickadees and nuthatches flit back and forth to the feeder which my grandson had filled on Sunday… dug out the tripod, found the remote and waited for them to come back to the feeder… and, of course, they flew off and never returned, lol… only picture I got was of the camera on the tripod…

trying to remain positive that the kids will really arrive tomorrow… did get a bit of extra time to finish preparations…

been a great week for music…

just last Wednesday I attended a great band concert and today I was at a wonderful Christmas concert…

this was the first concert for the youngest… both he and his brother took part in this one…

it had been great to have seen all of them perform…

also listened to Christmas music while working around the house… have to remember to do that more often…

just spent a wonderful hour watching Michael Buble’s Christmas in New York… and now I am watching The Sing Off while reviewing the Christmas gifts and sorting out what might still be needed…

this morning started the day with a photo of a cross stitched picture I made around thirty years ago… it is so calming…

I have quite a few collections for Christmas, but only put out three Santa’s this year… all in the bathroom…

spent half an hour on the treadmill at lunch… hard to get a clear picture when you are walking, lol…

the diabetes diagnosis has reminded me to look after myself and how important that is…

been doing some things that make me feel good – a Christmas project and a PowerPoint which I made for a gathering tonight, both of which have energized me…

started the day with a Christmas cracker… there was one at everyone’s desk when we arrived at the office…

ended the day at a lovely dinner at The Met… good company, good food, good evening…

Christmas is fast approaching and festivities are taking place everywhere…

spent the day in my jammies…

had a lovely time preparing parcels, listening to the Christmas music of Neil Diamond and Michael Buble…

wrapped parcels went by the tree…

the little boys helped me decorate the stairs with trees when they arrived for supper… things are sticking out a bit more than usual… it would make George crazy because he didn’t like stuff taking up space on the steps…

yesterday marked my second year on WordPress…

in that time I have written nearly every day, 747 posts to be exact…

more than 150 people follow my blog and the most popular topics include life, her big girl pants, and nature…

pretty good considering the day I started I was just going to see what it was about, lol…

my goal had been to share the experiences I had gone through following the passing of my beloved… not sure if I’ve done that…

for the last few weeks, every time I walk by the garden window at night, three of the solar lights twinkle all night long… I’ve decided that George is helping them twinkle:-)…

I’m learning to deal with my new reality and am finally over the poor me stage…

so far the sugar hadn’t been too much of a problem, but I guess the real test will come around Christmas…

well, a year ago today I wrote my first blog… the time has both flown past and taken forever, lol…

I’ve posted nearly every day since then… lots of things have taken place over this year…

commemorated George’s birthday for the first time without him… first Christmas without George and with Cyndi and Ron not coming home… took my kids to Mexico for a winter vacation… went on an Alaskan cruise… had two unforgettable days in Seattle… spent some wonderful time on Vancouver Island… had the pond rebuilt… spent some great time in/on the water over the summer… celebrated Cyndi and Ron’s trip through Winnipeg with a fabulous Champagne Bubble Party…

today I finished the Christmas project I’ve been working on with help from a lovely young woman at a local store… then Crystal and all the boys came over early and helped me with a number of jobs around the house… we put up and decorated some small trees, and put up the snow people…

cleaaning the aquarium... took 4 boys to get the job done...

finally, the boys changed the water in the aquarium and cleaned the pump… oh my, it was dirty… George would not be pleased with me, lol… still need to get a new filter but it is already looking much better…

for the last few weeks I have been struggling much more with the loss of my beloved, but today I may have turned the corner…

I’ve been working on a small gift for family and friends… George and I often produced hand-made gifts over the years… we would design them together, and he would usually be the one to make them… I decided to do one this year and enjoyed the process, but was also missing his input… the project is complete and may have helped me realize that he was with me throughout the process…

I have been wearing those big girl pants more and more and some days they fit very nicely… other days they feel enormous…

I will continue to take one step at a time on this new journey…
