we had another wonderful time at Lily Stone Cafe in Rosenort…

it was just over a year since we were last there, and it was as delightful as it had been previously…

once again, we had a room to ourselves…

we had a variety of teas and a tasty assortment of sandwiches and dainties…

my favourite savoury items were the the cucumber sandwiches and the quiche…

surprisingly, my favourite sweet was the decadent Kit Kat cheesecake, considering that I am not that fond of cheesecake, lol…

we were stuffed and happy when we left and weren’t rushed out the door, even though it was their closing time;-)…

the drive there and back was not too long and although it was overcast we only encountered a few drops of rain on our way home…

but, it still amazes me that there seems to be traffic everywhere and at all times these days, lol…

went for dim sum on Wednesday… can’t even think of the last time I had it…

it was supper time and they worked from a menu, not just having the carts going around…

spent a few minutes with their fish…

as per usual we ordered too much, but that meant I had a lovely leftover lunch on Thursday…

it was delicious both times…

ended the evening on our way home with a cone from Dairy Queen…

yum;-)…

at our time together last Monday, it was lovely to have everyone in the room, with no technology required…

amongst our conversations, we talked about our favourite pho restaurants… it is always great to hear about spots that others recommend…

later my grandson and I worked away on the garage project even though it was rather cold out, lol…

when we came in, with frozen fingers, the pho we’d talked about earlier called to me;-)…

those delivery apps are very handy, lol…

it was just what those cold fingers needed;-)…

made zucchini fritters with two lovely zucchinis I got from Jonathan’s Farm…

grated them and wrapped them in a towel to wring out extra moisture…

after they were mixed with egg, cheese, and breadcrumbs, added them to the waffle maker…

came out nicely, although they could have used a bit of flour, which I decided to leave out…

I will make these again;-)…

on Monday, I made a toasted tomato and bacon sandwich, with a tomato from a friend…

it was delicious and reminded me of my beloved…

he made the most delicious tomato sandwiches…

I couldn’t figure out why they were so delicious… at some point I realized that he used a ton of Miracle Whip…

but, my oh my, they were mouthwatering…

in May, I was very happy to be able to get some veggie plants delivered from Jonathan’s Farm…

amongst them were some very nice beefsteak tomatoes, which for some reason I keep calling beefeater, lol…

I planted one in a pot on the deck and it produced a lovely large tomato which has gotten more beautiful by the day…

July 13, starting to turn…
July 18, nearly ripe…

last night I got a fresh loaf of bread and today I picked the tomato and made a delicious tomato sandwich…

yum, what a wonderful treat;-)…

had a great time with my BS buddies…

we gathered in two vehicles and drove to Rosenort for our 1 pm High Tea reservation at Lily Stone Cafe…

what a delight… we climbed up stairs, went down a narrow hall, and into a beautifully decorated room ready for our tea…

we just happened to get this space, but for a 20% gratuity you can book one of the private rooms for your group… no one wore gloves, but there were pearls, jewellery, and some fancy clothes, lol…

there were so many teas to choose from it took us a while to decide, and everyone enjoyed their picks…

then the tiered stands with a number of items for us to devour arrived, and devour them we did;-)…

they were able to deal with a food issue for one of us, and everything we ate looked lovely and was tasty… although it didn’t appear like a lot of food, we were all full once we’d cleaned the plates…

from there we drove a few kilometres to Lily Stone Gardens where we toured the Gift Shop and the one open greenhouse…

I found a beautiful white dahlia that is now sitting next to the tubers, which I hope will encourage them to get growing, lol…

the drive took just over forty-five minutes each way, and even in the rain and overcast, it was enjoyable… lots of conversation and laughter in both vehicles…

what a wonderful way to spend an afternoon;-)…

as the birthday week celebrations continue, today I gathered with my BS buddies and they brought the birthday bag, a beautiful card, and cherry pie…

we have used the birthday bag for maybe twenty years… found this old photo from 2014 that has the bag in it, lol…

it used to hold a gift, but at this point in our lives we really don’t need anything, so now it contains a card…

this one was a beautiful painting by one of our group… it is a park bench and represents the bench that my beloved and I would sit on in the Leo Mol Garden during our walks…

happy birthday was sung and we had cherry pie with whipped cream… sooooo delicious;-)…

lots of conversation, laughs, and good eats…

now to be sure I don’t lose the bag before it is needed for the next birthday…

spent a good portion of the day in the kitchen… it smelled lovely the whole time…

pork hocks and cabbage slowly simmered all day long…

then I made garlic mashed potatoes mid day so that they had time to cool before being reheated…

and then it was supper time;-)…

all that simmering worked as the meat was fork tender and delicious;-)…

had a lovely visit with my neighbour…

she brought over a cute purple tray filled with delightful homemade goodies…

she makes a number of cookie trays for family and usually puts them on red trays, but had to go out and find a purple one for me😊… what a sweetie…

we usually meet for a little glass of something in the garden, lol, so it was good to get together in the house…

we snacked, chatted and had lots of laughs… and there are still some of the goodies left for me to eat and share🤭…
