started with an almond croissant and cheese for breakfast… lunch was a delicious chicken, stuffing and cranberry jelly sandwich on La Belle Baguette sourdough bread… ended the day with ham and scalloped potatoes that a dear friend dropped off…
and I made chicken broth from the chicken carcass…
there is still a great variety of leftovers and ready-to-eat items in the fridge;-)…
been a quiet day, although I did get dressed, lol…
this afternoon, as I sat reading in the living room, the doorbell rang… sounded odd as the doorbell has not rung for quite some time…
on my steps was a brown bag with Happy Easter on it and a dear friend standing on the sidewalk… she had made hot cross buns … which she does every year, and usually brings to our Monday night gathering closest to Easter…
she was dropping off these treats to each of our doors so that we could enjoy them;-)…
I couldn’t wait and warmed it up, buttered it and enjoyed every bite…
a few weeks ago I gathered up and organized the tax information…
scanned it all and emailed it to my wonderful accountant;-)… she is quite amazing and uses all the newest technology…
a few days ago I received a link to a portal from Platinum Business Services which had my completed tax documents as well as a letter advising I have a refund this year…
I had to print, sign, scan (used the Notes app on my phone for that) and return one document, which they will now efile and eventually I will get a confirmation and see the money in my bank account…
an eTransfer through my credit union, and payment was complete…
it was all done electronically, from my scanning documents, to them doing the work, to the portal where I could see the results, to my downloading and returning signed paperwork, to paying them, to eventually getting money put into my account by the government…
amazing how technology has improved our lives over the years and what a perfect time we are living in… so much we can still do even as we are isolating…
always so happy when the process is done as for many years it took my beloved forever to get this piece of work done…
thanks to the refund, which was because I had extra tax taken off throughout the year I made a donation to Winnipeg Harvest (online) to support those struggling to put food on the table… every little helps…
Monday is now plant watering day… used to be Saturday, but this new schedule is working well…
was talking with someone about their friend who, whenever they visited, would walk around and deadhead all the plants in the house…
as I was wandering around the living and dining room this morning I was reminded of my mom and mother-in-law and how they both did that in my house… they were both gardeners and certainly had green thumbs, actually – hands, lol… the plants always seemed happier after they had been over…
I think of my friends who are also amazing with plants… right now I am working on growing an avocado following one of their directions;-)… hope it works…
I also spent a bit of time enjoying the newest blooms…
this morning I set up for a FaceTime meeting with a friend to see if we could connect a portable drive to her Mac…
we’d gone shopping for it a number of weeks ago and planned to meet in person to get it connected…
lots of fun as we tried to figure it out from a distance, lol… I know how the drive works but don’t have a clue about Macs…
we think we got it sorted out after a number of bumps in the road;-)..
we also talked about Google Photos, which I’ve been using for quite some time… it is free and easy to access from my phone or the computer… it is simple to make albums and to put photos back onto my phone if I need/want them…
spent some time proofing a document for my daughter, worked on my recipe book a bit and watched a few PVRd shows…
later I baked sweet potato fries… fried up some pickerel breaded with crushed potato chips… and made a tartar sauce…
along with every other theatre, PTE had to cancel their current and upcoming performances…
we got an email advising that they were going to send us the archive copy of the performance for us to watch… what a kind gesture on their part… it was only available until the last date of the performance…
on Saturday, at 3 pm (the time we would have gone to see the show), my friend and I connected by phone and watched the show together… it was a bit of a giggle because the two computers were just off a touch, so it did sound a bit strange;-)…
I had my snacks ready – two of the shortbread cookies my friend had made for me – and a couple of pieces of Lindt 70% dark chocolate… we often bring a snack to the theatre, lol…
we had a fun time and a good conversation once it was over…
this morning I decided to order groceries from Save-On-Foods, which I’ve done a few times…
usually the delivery happens the next day… the first open spots started on Saturday afternoon… apparently many people are using the delivery system;-)…
went to the Park for lunch with a couple of friends… it was very quiet… no one on the path, and they have replaced the usual menus with single sheets of paper which are discarded after being used… the tables have nothing on them and the few people there were seated quite a ways from one another…
as I was leaving I noticed the new Leaf construction is above the trees now… kind of exciting;-)…
I don’t think I will be going out for lunch after this as it is clear that older folks need to be staying at home, away from others…
tonight my BS group met by phone… we are so lucky that we have the technology to allow us to connect this way…
while I was having a visit with my BS buddies, one of them noticed that I had a dryer sheet attached to the back of my shirt… when she took it off, there was a second one as well…
what made it particularly funny was that I had removed two sheets from the sleeves of the shirt in the morning when I got dressed… apparently that particular shirt likes to collect stuff…
I rip the sheets in half and reuse them a number of times which means that there could be a number of them in a load of laundry…
I also went out for lunch… there were no diners behind me and luckily my friend didn’t notice, I hope, lol…
the next day I put on a pair of Spring-looking leggings which I thought I’d worn before… at the end of the day I discovered they had the plastic size information still on the leg…
I have been so impressed with the responses to International Women’s Day this year…
businesses and individuals have made concerted efforts to share information about the number of women in their organizations or focussed on amazing women they know or work with… watching women lifting up other women is so empowering… there is much to do, but a positive sign as we continue to raise one another up and work toward an equal world…
this has made me think of the women in my life who have been excellent role models, mentors and friends…
the matriarchs in my family: my great grandmother Josephine, my grandmother Violet, my mother Audrey… the women who have lived through life with me: Janice, Naomi, Marlene and Pat… those who I have spent time and learned from and with over twenty-five years as we studied and reimagined the church, religion and spirituality…
my neighbours: Ellen, Lorraine, BA and Lynn… the wide range of women I have worked with over the years who have demonstrated what it means to be a leader… the young women in my life who have taught me so much…
as I was searching for just the right photo I found these three… the first is hands working together… the second is from the Famous Five statue in Ottawa… the last portrays all of those who circle me with their knowledge, support and love…
walked to and from the Park with a friend and had lunch at the Park Cafe… I’ve been ordering the same thing for a while now – the beet and goat cheese salad with falafel on the side… it is delicious… I order a side so it is just the right size…
enjoyed all the bits of nature which I spotted at home and on our walk… I also saw and heard geese flying over which was an early Spring treat…
the only unfortunate thing was that one of my boots sprang a leak and by the time I was home my foot was soaked...
apparently I am going to have to get new boots for next year;-(…
