I had made breakfast and brought it out to the back deck to enjoy…
I realized that a plant pot next to the waterfall needed to be turned so that more sunlight would encourage the dahlia to grow…
I stood on one of the blocks surrounding the waterfall area and a stone and started to turn the pot…
and I fell backwards into the top portion of the pond… in an effort to save myself, I grabbed the waterfall rock… it broke off in my hands and I ended up sitting in the water…
as you can imagine, I was rather shocked… I quickly removed my phone from my back pocket and put it on the stone surround as I tried to figure out how to get out…
there was blood on my hands and when I lifted my right foot there was blood on my toes as well…
after I removed my flip flops, I was able to slowly and carefully get out…
I went into the house, took off the wet clothes and sat down for a few minutes… eventually I called and spoke with my daughter and settled down, lol…
after a shower to get rid of the pond smell I sat in the garden and texted with a friend about what I needed to do for my hands and foot…
polysporin for my hands, soaking and more polysporin for my foot and quiet time for the rest of the day, trying not to use my hands too much or get them dirty…
over twenty-five years with ponds in the garden and this was the first time I fell in…
I have been spending as much time as possible in the garden during these lovely days, enjoying every moment…
today, I put an umbrella on the hibiscus, which is getting a sunburn, even though I hardened it off… I came across the umbrella yesterday in the shed and it worked perfectly…
I switched two planters on the deck so that I can see the morning glories more easily… one of the chairs has been in front of them, so it hasn’t been as easy to see them… this will be much better…
finally I cleaned the pump again… I am getting good at it, lol… it makes a huge difference to the water flow…
I also followed the shade around the space as it was very hot in the sun…
I am so blessed to have the time and space to be able to enjoy the garden each and every day…
I watered the grass seed twice and visited with my baby bunny buddy while I was at it;-)…
I levelled the water barrel, which was a fairly heavy job, but managed to get it done…
and finally, I cleaned the pump so the waterfall works better… every three or four days it gets clogged and needs to be cleaned out… when it is warmer, I sit on the bridge and clean it standing in the water… the water is still rather cool, so I’ve had others do it when they are over…
today, I put down a cushion and laid on it as I leaned way over the stones and was able to grab the bits and pieces stuck in the filter… almost immediately the sound of the waterfall improved… I was even able to get back up without too much difficulty;-)…
well, what a day… the workers were here for eight hours and got a huge amount of work done… I took a few photos before they arrived…
the cedars were trimmed… the wooden path in the shade garden was removed and replaced with patio stones, which were lifted from the remainder of the garden…
extra stones and the old wooden path were placed neatly beside the garage for a future project…
a portion of the lawn was levelled… soil was put down, tamped and covered with grass seed…
the rain held off all day as clouds came and went, which meant it wasn’t too hot for the workers…
there is still a small pile of soil, but that may go into the flower beds or be used to level out the front yard;-)…
a few pieces of work still need to happen, but it is going to look great once the grass comes up…
today I spotted a few visitors in the neighbourhood…
all day my baby bunny friend has been popping up in the garden… I think we are becoming friends, lol…
now it sits closer to me and for longer periods;-)…
later in the day, as I was getting my steps in, I saw a mallard pair sitting under the pine tree next door… not sure I’ve ever seen ducks this close to the house…
walked around and reviewed the work that needs to happen on the weekend…
soil will be delivered… all of the stepping stones are going to be lifted and soil and grass seed put in their place…
in the side garden, the wooden path will be removed and the stepping stones that were taken up in the main area will be used to replace the wooden path…
this will be a bit sad as my beloved laid all of these paths but it is time to change it up… right now many of the spots are tripping hazards as they have sunk a lot…
any leftover soil will go into the various beds and pots around the space… hoping that the two yards of soil is just the correct amount…
the cutest baby bunny visited the garden as the work was being done in the garden on Monday…
when I went out to the garage yesterday morning to move the plants back outside, I spotted the baby bunny under the table filled with plants…
I opened the overhead door and tried to encourage it to go out, but of course it went the other way… I carried on moving plants and didn’t see it again, but just to be safe I left the side door open for the day…
later I spotted it again outside… it came right up to me beside the garage door… I am sure it wanted to go back in there… I felt bad so I put out a few carrot bits for it…
I was very careful as I put the plants back into the garage to be sure it didn’t get in, lol…
Hilda the Gardener came by today and filled the front planters, a couple of hanging planters on the side of the house, a bed next to the garage, and moved ferns from one area to another…
everything looks great…
there is a threat of frost (for the next three nights), so I have just come in from putting sheets over all of the areas, lol…
excited to see how wonderful it is all going to look;-)…
she also brought me some lilacs, because she knows I love them…
