seems like it has been a crazy busy day, felt as though I was running from one thing to the next…

up early and headed out to do errands… went to three different stores and got home with groceries to put away…

made the stuffing for the chicken just in time to be picked up by the kids for a dimsum lunch… tasty…

the boys and I all fit into a picture, sort of…

then we went to the Mid-Canada Boat Show in the new portion of the RBC Convention Centre… the space is lovely… didn’t take a single picture…

there were many very big boats there… liked the look of a new model of seadoo called Spark… looks like it might be lots of fun… to drive one I would need a boating licence, hmmmm…

when we got home I stuffed the chicken and popped it into the oven… we visited and I prepped the rest of the food… eventually the chicken was cooked… had mashed potatoes with cauliflower; brussel sprouts with mushrooms and garlic; gravy, and cranberry jelly… and of course our usual Caesar salad, which all the boys love… topped dinner off with some apple pie to remember Grandpa… we talked about his favourite foods… he really liked roast pork, but always enjoyed a roast chicken dinner…

can’t really believe it has been four years since he left us and at the same time it feels like way longer that I’ve been on my own…

very happy the day is nearly over… been a long one…

this morning the sky was quite lovely… got a few pictures as we were driving to the office… also enjoyed the sun streaming through the windows throughout the day…

had supper with all the kids… technology is an amazing thing… we FaceTimed over burgers… we had A&W and they had Burger King… besides a teenburger, I had a few onion rings and two of their apple pies…

have had this picture on my phone for quite a while but hadn’t found the right time to use it… today seems like the right time… George loved to bring me orchids all the time and so when I see them I always think of him…

this has been blooming for weeks…

haven’t been able to talk about him all day… not even over dinner… our usual pattern is to share some grandpa stories during our meal, but I just couldn’t do it…

we have just spent three hours carving pumpkins…

started with four pumpkins and then friends arrived with two more… I picked up two plastic ones for my house…

guts were yanked out… carving tools were used… everyone worked very hard and had lots of fun expressing their creativity…

the drill came out and not one hissy fit was had…

the work was all done…

hope you are not too scared… Grandpa would have been proud… he had the most fun getting ready for Halloween…

here are the cookies that I took to the office today… brought the rest over to my kids’…

put some out in cute little spider web bags…

big girl pants, blessed, George, Grandpa, instant, leaves, memories, together, voice

was recently reminded of how your life can change in an instant… one minute someone is here with you, and the next they are gone, sigh…

was a beautiful sunny day as we arrived at the office… the light was shining on this tree at the corner of the building… lovely colour and the highlights where the sun was shining on it were wonderful…

walking by these piles of leaves on my way home reminded me of some fun times with George and the little boys… they spent lots of time raking leaves and jumping and hiding in them…

I particularly think of a day we were at the park and the boys were very little… they decided to gather leaves and spent ages collecting them with grandpa’s help and then getting covered up and popping out of them, to our surprise, lol…

they were so small when he died… the littlest one barely remembers him…

I heard his voice in a short video on Facebook the other day, and was brought to tears… how quickly we forget… it was really a treat to hear him, even if it was painful…

such excellent memories… I have been blessed… we had an amazingly wonderful life together…

ashes, big girl pants, breakfast, climbing, Grandpa, missing, moments, scattered

up early and headed out for breakfast after we woke up the teenager…

on our way, stopped by the spot where we scattered George’s ashes as the middle one had asked about it a few weeks ago and we weren’t able to get there because his brother was sick…

wasn’t sure if the other two would want to, but they both said yes and away we went…

found the spot and played on the rocks and talked about that morning and how the oldest had scattered the ashes and they had gone out to the river and on to the lake… all places that Grandpa loved…

when we were sitting down for our breakfast we had a toast to Grandpa…

while we were waiting for our food to arrive we talked about our breakfast that morning and how it would have been better to have grandpa with us…

late in the afternoon we went across the street and the boys spent some time climbing a tree by the creek… it was just at the time that my friend’s ashes were being scattered in another part of the city…

sat and thought about her as they climbed away… special moment…

missing a lot of people today…

big girl pants, blue moon, dragonfly, Grandpa, grandsons, mulch, photos

last night I spent some time on the deck trying to get a good shot of the full, blue moon…

this is one of the few that turned out… also took a few pictures of the light coming through the gate…

set my alarm for 5:45 am which was going to be the height of the full moon… woke up at 5, so went out and got this shot…

back to sleep for an hour or so and when I got up, took a few photos of the morning glory...

took some with my camera as well, but they turned out blue, not the actual purple of the flower…

spent the day with two of my grandsons and the dog… we talked about grandpa while we were having our breakfast at the “A”…

later one mowed the lawn and the other started picking up some of the mulch because now we are going to lay down landscape fabric and put the mulch back down… should have done that in the first place, lol…

got a lovely shot of a beautiful dragonfly this afternoon…

great day…

family, Grandpa, moments, presents, time, tree

this morning we spent a couple of hours opening Christmas gifts, taking turns around the room… we’ve often followed this process which means that each person can see what everyone else received… also a great opportunity to say thanks for their gift…

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/39f/43539991/files/2014/12/img_9949.jpg
the tree was gorgeous and the ground below and behind it was jam-packed with treasures…

presents were well thought out and just right for all… my favourites were a photo book of our balloon flight this summer and purple cooking pots…

after a great breakfast we headed home… got the turkey stuffed, had a snack and a lovely time in the hot tub… naps were had by all…

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/39f/43539991/files/2014/12/img_9950.jpg
family arrived, dinner was eaten and Auntie read the story of the pink giraffe… Grandpa used to read this to the boys…

beloved, commemorate, flies by, Grandpa, my beloved, time, very slow

sometimes time seems to fly by, particularly if you are trying to get something done in a certain period…

other times it is very, very slow, particularly when you are trying to get past something, lol…

and still other times, it goes by at a normal speed…

today, it seems to be going rather slowly… two years ago today, my beloved died…

can’t figure out how to go about commemorating the day… do I sit around and sob all day long… do I pretend to ignore the date and push my way through it…

hard to know what works best…

40 roses to celebrate 40 years...

40 roses to celebrate 40 years…

above is a picture of the flowers George brought me on our 40th anniversary… I was in the hospital with pancreatitis…he was a great romantic…

have had many Facebook messages and a few phone calls… I was fine until I saw one or heard the voice of someone thinking about me… then I burbled like a baby, lol…

tonight the kids here, and in Ottawa, were together by Skype and we had dinner together…

it was crazy… the weather was awful, the supper arrived early, we had trouble getting connected on Skype, the kids in Ottawa had to eat before we connected, Crystal had to leave early for a concert, Jeff arrived late and the little kids were all hyped up, lol… we spent a bit of time talking about things that Grandpa liked to do…

a young friend brought her newborn over for a few snuggles which was lovely…

I wonder how other people celebrate/remember the date of the passing of their beloved…

big girl pants, carving, Grandpa, halloween, pumpkin carving, thankful

tomorrow I plan to carve the pumpkin that we got last week when we went to the pumpkin patch…

usually the kids would be over and we would carve them together… this has been a tradition since the 13 year old was a little tyke, even though he doesn’t always get to participate… Grandpa loved to carve the pumpkins and each year they got more and more intricate…

ready for action...

ready for action…

pumpkin carving was serious business and the table would be covered with a plastic tablecloth and a bowl set out for the seeds and another for the guts…

tracing the pattern with care in just the right spot...

tracing the pattern with care in just the right spot…

then there would be the decision making about which pattern to follow for each pumpkin, unless someone decided to go free form…

one down... still a couple to go...

one half done… still a couple to go…

everyone would participate… until they got bored, and then Grandpa would finish off the job… he liked that because then he could do exactly what he wanted, lol…

Grandpa finishing up when others lost interest...

great excitement would take place when a candle went in and the lights went out…

pretty cool pumpkin...

this year I will be carving my pumpkins on my own… our thirteen year old has a project due on Friday and tomorrow night is set aside for he and a classmate to get that done…

tonight’s pictures are from the last pumpkin carving we did with Grandpa, two years ago…

I am so thankful for all of the pictures I have taken over the years… it was great fun to go through and pick a few…

big girl pants, fall outfits, feathered friends, Grandpa, leaves, multi coloured trees, purple finches, raking

spent some time watching a family of purple finches as they stocked up on food before their flight to warmer climes… they are not nearly as bright as in the spring and early summer…

purple finches at the front feeder...

purple finches at the front feeder…

that same day I took some pictures of the leaves as the colours change… every day as I drive to and from work I see less leaves on the trees and more on the ground…

trees n their fall colours...

trees in their fall outfits…

also got a shot of a yard down the street that was filled with leaves…

leaves on the ground...

the elm trees haven’t shed yet, but soon when the boys come over they can do some raking and playing… it will remind them of doing that very thing with Grandpa I am sure…
