watching the anthurium blossom open involves a good deal of patience…
this was the first photo I took of the most recent flower… it was on February 11…

had a fun trip to Shelmerdine today…
wasn’t going to get anything, but three Christmas gifts jumped right into the cart…
and I found one of the amaryllis plants coated in wax, that grow without water… hummed and hawed, but in the end had to get one…
it is now sitting on the living room table and I can’t wait to see it grow and produce some flowers;-)

popped over to a friend’s place to pick some seed pods from her pale blue morning glories before they were pulled up for winter…
she hadn’t been able to see any pods, so I said I would come and pick them and show them to her…
we had a laugh when I got there because they are very late growing and haven’t even started any pods yet…
so, we picked a few pieces of the vine and I brought those home to see if I can get the plants started in the house…
I even brought one of the all-white ones…
we shall see what happens, lol… those west facing window ledges do come in handy…

a neighbour is growing sunflowers…
for the longest time we couldn’t figure out what the plants were, lol…
they are as tall as their house and just recently the sunflower head became visible… obviously, these plants have enjoyed the weather…

for whatever reason I didn’t end up planting some sad looking cherry tomatoes I had in the kitchen till very late…
but look at them now;-)…
expect they will be red before you know it… and I can hardly wait…

in May, I was very happy to be able to get some veggie plants delivered from Jonathan’s Farm…
amongst them were some very nice beefsteak tomatoes, which for some reason I keep calling beefeater, lol…
I planted one in a pot on the deck and it produced a lovely large tomato which has gotten more beautiful by the day…
last night I got a fresh loaf of bread and today I picked the tomato and made a delicious tomato sandwich…
yum, what a wonderful treat;-)…

we got a few of the projects off the list on Saturday…
the Virginia creeper had a haircut, thankfully, as when our neighbour came through the gate with his little guy, he had to duck under it, lol…
looks much tidier now…
we cleaned out the area around the air conditioner and attached the hose connectors on the side of the gate…
I think it is going to be much handier in the new spot…

I am so pleased with how the garden is coming along, even with this rather changeable weather…
there are teeny little cucumbers starting to grow… at least one butternut squash has started, and there is a lovely beefsteak tomato…
the beautiful strawberry got eaten… and not by a human;-(… not sure if it was a bird or a squirrel, but I’m leaning towards squirrel, lol…

on Friday the dahlias came up from the basement…
two years ago when I brought them in, I removed all the soil, bagged each one, labelled them and put them away in the dark in the basement…
when I brought them in last fall, I didn’t even take off the dirt… they went into a pail, which went onto a shelf in the laundry area… so, not even in the dark… and I had no idea which type they were, lol…
when the pail came upstairs on Friday I wasn’t expecting much and was pleasantly surprised…
at least four of the clumps had new growth… I am very excited about this… currently they are sitting on the table in the sun…
soon they will be planted in pots in the garden;-)…
