on Monday I received a birthday present in the mail…

it is a plastic envelope with a disk of soil, a popsicle stick and seeds…

it will turn into sunflower micro greens…

this morning, after going online for directions, I added water, stirred up the soil, added the seeds, stirred it a bit more, misted it and put it into the sunshine;-)…

will be checking it out daily to see how it grows…

what a clever idea and lovely gift;-)…

been working on the seedling project… this is interesting because I had decided not to start any this year, lol…

not long ago I picked up a grow-light and finally got it up in the den…

for the last few weeks I’ve been collecting toilet paper rolls and cutting them down to be seed containers…

spent time putting them in the bins to keep them together, and filling them with soil…

next will be wetting them down so they will be ready for seeds in a week or so…

getting excited for spring and time in the garden…

great excitement as I have discovered three orchids that are setting buds;-)…

this makes me very happy as January and February can be difficult months – usually cold and dull…

the one orchid which is blooming is sitting on the middle of the living room table and doing very well…

spent some time trimming the hibiscus now that most of the buds have opened…

here it was before the haircut, kind of scraggly…

and after, being careful not to cut off any of the remaining buds;-)…

I think it looks much tidier and it is much easier to walk past it, lol… and then it had another bloom;-)…

here it is five years ago… so tiny…

and since then it has lost one whole stem…

I am so excited to finally see pads (leaves) from the water lilies on the surface of the pond…

they spent the winter in the fish tanks, but did not appear to be growing at all since they’ve been back in the pond…

this was the second year they had been overwintered, so it was very disappointing that nothing was happening…

but a few days ago, the first of the pads floated to the top of the water…

now I am hopeful that they will bloom this summer as well… they did a great job last year;-)…

recently I wandered around my space and took photos of all the blooming or nearly blooming things…

January and February are often harder months for me and having flowers blooming really lifts my spirits…

so much beauty in this space and I am grateful;-)…

well, the coleus has been transplanted…

there were lots of roots when I checked the glass the slips were in… I went out to the garage and brought in four pots and a pail filled with potting mix…
