was on the deck reading last evening when a Cooper’s Hawk flew onto the ledge about six feet in front of me…
moved too fast for me to get a photo, but this is where it was…
it flew to the top of the garage, sat there for a few minutes, and then on to the neighbour’s yard…
hope the little birds are okay…

had a bit of a giggle as I was sitting on the deck eating breakfast and listening for bird songs…
when we were at the cottage we would hear a huge variety within just a few minutes…
of course that was also at migration time so I’m not sure how many you might hear now…
here, I can hear house sparrows, chickadees, the odd crow, squirrels yelling, and recycling/garbage trucks going up and down the lane, lol…
it has also been quieter lately because there is a Cooper’s Hawk hanging around, which makes for some very quiet times when all the birds and squirrels go into hiding…
you know it has left the area when all of a sudden large numbers of sparrows start getting drinks and gathering seed from the feeders, nattering the whole time…

the sparrows, chickadees and a few cute little warblers were having a lovely time eating and drinking in the garden… I was particularly happy as the warblers hadn’t been around for a while…
suddenly they all flew into the trees and a juvenile Cooper’s Hawk landed on the wires over the deck… what a surprise…
the last few sparrows flew right over my head to get to the safety of the cedars…
the hawk watched from the wires and wandered along the top of the deck for about ten minutes before leaving…
it was very quiet for a while…
it was special to see as I’ve only seen hawks twice in the garden, but I hope it doesn’t come back as it really keeps all the other birds away, lol…

this morning I discovered a squirrel on the feeder in the front yard… I was surprised because I didn’t think they could get to it…
but apparently they can jump rather high… certainly explains why this feeder seems to be empty all the time…
over the last few days I’ve come across a few cuties…
this bunny was in the neighbour’s yard and posed nicely for the picture…
very happy with this picture of a couple of geese as they were circling for a landing at the Duck Pond…
and this is my absolute favourite… when I got back from my doctor’s appointment on Friday morning, the boys and I headed out the front door to walk to the Assiniboine Hotel for breakfast…looked to the right as we stepped outside and spotted this hawk sitting on the side of the neighbour’s truck…
held onto my youngest grandson and everyone stood still and whispered while I got out my camera and took a few pictures… the boys had just been telling me about the purple finches they have spotted at their house… makes me happy to know they are starting to look around and notice…
thinking that maybe the raccoons have been over… that bird feeder on the ground was beside the gray planter last night, lol…
fun to enjoy the special moments when the creatures turn up…

put out the cushions, watered the plants, filled the pond, and then finally sat in the garden…
just about then a large bird flew through the garden and landed on the trellis behind the waterfall… the sparrows flew away very quickly… from my bird app I think it was a hawk… that was new, as I’ve never seen one in the garden…
shortly after that the kids picked me up and we went lounge chair shopping…
got this one and then a cushion from another store… not sure whether to keep the cushion…
picked up this umbrella for the kids and when they put it up the crank stopped working and we had to take it back, but we got a new one which seems okay…
they got a new lounger and cushion and someone is very happy with it…
and now we are sitting on their deck swatting mosquitoes…
sleeping over and going to spend the day boating in Gimli… great start to my holidays…
I am just about ready for bed, cause there was no nap today…
