was in the basement doing laundry when I heard scraping sounds…

excited to discover that my shoveler was in the backyard clearing snow from the deck…

I knew he was going to come again this year, but wasn’t sure of what it would cost so checked with him while he was here…

wrote cheques for the season and chatted with him for a few moments before he left..

this year I will text him as soon as the city clears the street… and produces the pile of snow at the end of the sidewalk… they are fairly good with clearing the driveway but do not even attempt the sidewalk… if you don’t clean it up quickly it turns into blocks of ice that are very difficult to remove…

my visitors use the sidewalk, so our plan is to get ahead of the lumps of packed snow if we can;-)…

very happy that he is thinking of ways to make the shovelling easier…

we have been very lucky with the snowfall so far this year… been really cold but little snow has fallen…

I do have a person to come and shovel for me, which makes me happy… I don’t have to worry about whether my grandson can make it over, although I am going to miss our time together…

think we will have to plan some supper dates…

here’s what I saw when I opened the back door this morning…

the garage door had opened during the night, sigh… once the temperature reaches a certain point the door won’t stay closed… I didn’t do anything about replacing it over the summer… guess I’ll be using the front to get in and out of the house for the next few months…

but, did see some bunny tracks…

when I came home it was all clear… I think he ended up blowing the snow because there really wasn’t much on the ground…

what a lovely treat…

there had been lots in the news for a few days that we were going to get a big snowstorm but we’ve dodged every one that had been mentioned all winter…

until Sunday night, lol… it started with rain and by morning everything was covered in snow…

and it kept falling all day… stopped late in the afternoon…

we are used to snow and storms here… most people went about their daily business… it was just a storm, lol…

when I got home I could not see where the sidewalk was… the snow had covered everything completely… even the trees were weighed down with the beautiful, but very heavy, snow…

I was very lucky because my kids came over and shoveled and snowblowed, clearing the sidewalks and driveway…

today it was as if nothing had happened… another example of how things can change in a very short time…

happy that my grandson made it over on Sunday to shovel…

he drove his brother to a birthday party and then came to get the job done…

it was really cold out… it was -27 when I wrote this but quite a bit colder while he was here…

a few days ago it snowed for most of the morning, but lightly, so there wasn’t too much to remove… I was very happy because it is always nice to have the sidewalks and driveway clean for everyone…

after he finished, we had lunch, he studied and I read, until he had to go back and pick up the little guy…

I did not leave the house today…

early in the day I took a few photos of the beauty in the backyard… the sun shone on the snow and the critters hadn’t made any paths through the white… even the garage roof was pristine…

it is always lovely to admire the snow when there isn’t a need to go out in it, lol…

out the front there were diamonds glittering everywhere… could barely see where the front sidewalk should be…

when the kids came for dinner my shoveler got to work and cleaned everything up…

there was a fair bit of snow, but it was light and fluffy… although it was cold, it didn’t take him too long to get is done… he has improved so much since he started doing the job… my beloved, who was very particular, would be proud of him…

won’t have any trouble getting out for work tomorrow…

missing my beloved today…

first thing the toilet was acting up… time was when I would just tell him about it and he would fix whatever the problem was…

not these days…

had to dig out the appropriate equipment and solve the problem myself…

last weekend I had to go and find a different shovel so my shoveler can get down to the cement, and salt, so he could make sure the ground isn’t crazy slippery… also had to pick up a few bulbs so I could replace some burnt out ones…

I find choosing bulbs a very difficult job… there are so many and they seem to be similar but when you get them home they don’t throw the amount of light you expect, or are the wrong strength, or colour… arghhhh…

thankfully my son-in-law helped pick them and looks like they will all work…

many days I just do whatever needs doing, but other days I can barely keep from crying because he isn’t here…

today I happened to read a blog I wrote a year ago… it was all about flowers and how they have always lifted my spirits… also talked about how my beloved made sure there were lots around during January and February…

it snowed quite a bit overnight… as I was pulling out of the driveway the house looked so pretty that I had to stop and get a picture…

  

fresh snow makes everything beautiful…

started snowing on the drive to work… it was hard to see and very slippery… the snowfall lasted for a good portion of the day but by the time I left the office the car was clean… the temperature was over zero and it had melted… crazy weather, lol… main streets were practically dry…

sadly when we got on the side streets there was still tons of snow… 

my grandson met me at work so he could ride home and shovel for me…

  
we had supper and he got all the sidewalks and driveway cleared…

   

it’s been two years since my wall was painted purple so I spent a few minutes enjoying the beauty of the living room before heading on up to bed…

on my way out to the car this morning — with my hands full of various bits and bags for work — I had to stop and take a picture of the pink sky…

 
my driving buddy thought I’d fallen as it took me a few extra seconds to get to the car, lol…

 took lots of pictures as we drove downtown… you never know, when the sky is so beautiful, when it will vanish…

  
at lunch I went for a walk with my daughter as our yoga class was cancelled… did well, particularly as I hadn’t planned on walking… had a spare jacket to put under my coat and pulled up my hood… only my legs got cold…

then my grandson met me at the office and came to shovel… afterwards we had leftover lentils with brown basmati rice along with roasted brussel sprouts and mushrooms… 

  

he chose the menu and prepped the veggies… we had a lovely visit and he headed home on the bus…

what a treat…

first thing this morning I took this picture of the spiral tree outside the door…

  
it had snowed a bit overnight and just dusted it a bit…

been snowing for most of the day, as you can see from the amount of snow on it…

my grandson came over and shovelled tonight… he came to the office and rode home with us through the very slow traffic… once he was finished his mom picked him up to take him home…

after supper I went on a cooking spree… made hummus and cut veggies for our potluck tomorrow… mixed goldeye cream cheese and almost have the zucchini basil soup done…

now to bed… been struggling with a headache for most of the day…

last night when I got home the bathroom window looked cool…

  
the glass blocks were covered in snow on the outside…

not sure if there wasn’t any wind during the night, or whether I was just so exhausted that I didn’t hear the flapping siding… had a good sleep and didn’t even need my Fitbit to tell me that, lol…

woke up with a stuffy head and sore throat, but felt better as the day progressed…

got this shot of the drift in front of the garage as we were leaving for work…

  
glad I didn’t need to take my own car because it might not have made it through…

am so blessed with my great kids… my son-in-law stopped by on his way home from work at 7 pm to shovel so that I can get out tomorrow…

  he did the whole driveway…
  
even the backyard… so I can get out to the hot tub:-)…

and my grandson has agreed to do the shovelling again this winter… this weekend he is out of town, thus the son-in-law…

well I guess winter has arrived…
